“Superb - from the wedding party to family breaks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Some five years back my wife and I scoured beaches and resorts for a venue that would provide a fabulous Goa experience for our close friends. We were bringing them together for a three-day wedding party - and the crowd was mixed; friends and family from Europe, Africa and North America, along with our close friends from Mumbai, Delhi and Kolhapur. We found Montego Bay - and Morjim beach, which was then fairly secluded. We booked the whole place and got a great deal. Alvin and the Montego Bay team made it into an event that is still talked about by our friends; fun-filled beach activities during the day, great food and snacks throughout, and beautifully atmosphered (no other word to describe it) nights - with bonfires, a dj and dancing, and that beautiful starlit Goan sky.

My wife and little two-year old returned recently (about a month back) for a break. She found many of the same friendly staff (always a good sign), new and further improved facilities, along with the same warmth and intimacy of years back. Now as a family - the place was perfect. And it is not often that you find a place that caters equally well for a group of fun-loving youngsters (in their 30s, nonetheless) and families. Our little boy was nicely cared for and looked after by the Montego team. And when I emailed Alvin to get my wife some flowers for Valentines, he got her a lovely bunch of roses. These small touches - and that extra care - is what makes a great place, superb. Now we're back - and I'm writing this review from the WIFI enabled log cabins after a beautiful stroll on the beach, sunset and with an exquisite seafood dinner ahead of us.

We've been coming to Goa for the last 15 years and have stayed from the rough beach shack, to the upmarket resort. Montego Bay has maintained high standards, consistency, and that personal touch which makes every stay special. It's our top choice - and highly recommended.

Arrived here in the afternoon & not a great reception. Were escorted to the room without any explanation of the property or the facilities, how the breakfast included worked etc.

Upon passing the well advertised / photographed featured pool featured on the website we were disappointed to see it low on water & green. When we asked the host, he said it would be clean by tomorrow.

The room was clean although very small for the price. It is a beachfront wooden american style chalet but it is split into 2 units with the bathroom walls separating each bedroom. The walls are so thin that we could her the next door occupants using the toilet in the night, not exactly romantic!

Breakfast the next morning was a disappointment with basic cereal, a hot dish, dry & cold toasted slices of bread with butter & jam.

The pool was not cleaned the next day, still green although the water level had increased from the day before from the hose still lying in the pool.

The resort dining & relaxation area is large but not well kept with the furniture tired & the setup overgrown & full of rubbish around the perimeter.

Overall a disappointing overnight experience.

My experience at Montego was one of the best I ever had ;) .The people at the resort were very hospitable and warm in their approach. All my future stay in Goa will be certainly be in Montego. Full rating to the resort

When we decided to get married in Goa, thousands of venues were available to choose from, but we wanted a place which could provide a cosy atmosphere for the most important day of our lives. Montego Bay Beach Village Resort exactly turned out what we were wishing for. Ah! Now what do I say about this enchanting resort! I don't think I can do enough justice to describe in words the charm of this place and its staff. The moment I saw the place, I knew this is where I wanted to get married and I am happy to say that it was just perfect! Nestled amongst a grove of coconut trees, right on the pristine Morjim beach, the log cabins, villa, huts and rooms of Montego Bay are beautiful and are exactly what you are looking for in a Goa wedding.

Alvin, the owner of Montego Bay, was very gracious and helpful. He took care of the smallest of details and ensured that all our guests had a gala time. I am sure he must have gone mad taking care of all the details but he was always smiling and always personally present to look after all the arrangements. I gained in Alvin a friend who you can rely on for the most important day of your life.

Ours was a Punjabi-Maharashtrian wedding and we wanted authentic Punjabi cuisine served at the wedding. We thought that would be impossible in Goa but Alvin worked his magic! The food that chefs of Montego Bay prepared was extremely delicious and our guests couldn't stop praising the meals prepared by them.

I can go on and on about how wonderful this place is, but let me sum it up in one sentence. If you want a perfect, cosy, colourful, warm and magical Goan wedding - Montego Bay Beach Village Resort is the ONLY place for you.

Many many thanks to Alvin and his team at Montego Bay.

Love,

Ananya & Amit

If sand, sun and the sea are the only things you want, then Montego Bay has no dearth of those. Right on the Morjim beach - one of the least crowded, and hence cleaner beaches of North Goa, the hotel has a superb location. On the flip side it is far from the Baga-Calangute belt, and hence you will miss all the good restaurants and parties unless you are ready to travel/drive for 30 minutes. The food in Montego Bay is decent, and there aren't places within walking distance that serve any better food.

We stayed in an A/C Log Cabin. Small and basic, very clean. Opens up to a nice lawn with coconut trees, sun beds and hammocks. Plenty of cool and fresh air, birds, greenery and nature around. The restaurant has three sitting areas, all next to the beach and tastefully designed comfortable sitting. Waiters and staff are friendly and helpful, but no room service (in fact, no food inside the rooms). There is a pool, but no fitness center, except beach activities.

We spent two very relaxing days here and won't mind going again.

We stayed in a tent for 5 nights at the beginning of january. We had emailed in advance to arrange a taxi to meet us at dabolim airport, a driver was at arrivals to meet us and it took around 1 hour 30 mins to get to morjim and cost us 1200rupees, driving through goa was an experience in itself, as driving in india always is!
The check in was straight forward and since we arrived at 5pm we were taken straight to our tent. All the tents are in a line stretching back from the beach to the beach huts which are set a bit further back. We had booked a tent for the experience of something a bit different, but we had been slightly concerned about how hot it would get and nearly booked an aircon hut. Luckily we were pleasantly surprised to discover there is a lovely breeze at morjim, meaning if anything at night time we got a bit chilly! (and turned the fan that was provided off!)
We had tent 6, it is 3 tents back from the beach, around 30m from the bar/restaurant, 20m from the 'pool' (which we didn't use, its basically a large scale paddling pool - i suppose fine if your not keen of swimming in the sea!) the tent has a fully functioning shower, toilet and sink. Also there is a great little area outside each tent to relax and enjoy a beer or cocktail at the end of a day and watch the sunset.
The centre of the resort is lovely and green, with grassy areas, palm trees and flowers, with a few hammocks dotted in between.
The restaurant/bar is basic but really good, all in the open. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. There is a good selection of food, ranging from traditional curries, rice ,fish to salads and pasta. On the first night we got food for two, including starters, curry, rice, bread and 4 beers, for 680 rupees. (around £7) kingfisher beer is only 50per bottle (60p!)
Every morning breakfast is provided at the restaurant, its pretty simple. Bread, toast, butter, jam, cereals and either beans or rice- depending on the day! Also there was fresh pineapple, papaya and watermelon. You can also order eggs- id recommend the malsala omelette! Just watch out for the big chillis! We also would pay an extra (100rupees) for fresh orange juice. Request no ice if you are worried about the water! A lot of places in Goa make ice from bottled water, but its best to check first.
You can hand your tent key at the bar if you want room service, aka new towels and linen.

The area itself is very quiet. But there are around 6 or 7 little bars/restaurants just along the beach. The area attracts a lot of Russians, two nearby places, bora bora next door and glafish a few along, are exclusively run by russians. We tried both, and although granted, the food was good and did offer slightly more choice (stroganoff, borsch, humus, burgers etc) it was more expensive and we got the impression if you are not russian you get a totally different standard of service. One place id highly recommend is xaviers, just a few places along from montego. We went for breakfast one morning and took museli and curd, it was filled with lots of fresh fruit and definitely good value. We also had dinner one night, we chose some traditional indian dishes which were really good. The staff were friendly and helpful too! It seemed quiet compared to the busy bora bora next door, but it just turned out to be all the russians going there...!
We walked all around the area, about 15 minutes left out of montego bay there are strip of bars and food shacks, who all appear to be big bob Marley fans. There is also a small market area.
30 minutes right along the beach, you pass Marbella beach resort (a massively over priced stylish resort, good for a drink in the bar but i wouldnt pay 250euros a night to stay in one of their tents!) La plage, a french restaurant- ran by french ladies, slightly more expensive but amazing food, we went at lunch and had to book a day in advance. If you could, I would say book for dinner, you could always arrange a taxi (there is a taxi area right outside montego)
Id also recommend talking a 20 minute walk up to morjim village back along the 'main road'. Some good photo opportunities! Morjim is really good for parasailing too, as you will see right along the beach.
After Morjim we headed to Anjuna for a few nights to the Market which is every Wednesday. Montego bay arranged a taxi for us for 500rupees.
So to sum up, If you are looking for a quieter beach in goa, which still provides entertainment and a few different options for food, montego bay at morjim is a good choice!

Room Tip: Don't worry about the tents being too hot, they are comfortable, closer to the beach and a great...
