“Great tapas!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We booked for dinner Saturday night not having been before. Were surprised how small the restaurant was and very noisy due to being fully booked. However, the service and food made up for the lack of atmosphere. The waiter suggested the tapas over the paella. On recommendation we order 9 tapas to share between the two of us. The food was excellent and the Spanish beer a real treat. A more 'Spanish' feel to the premises would benefit the overall experience. Will go back but early in the week so not so noisy.

“Lovely experience, will be back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Went with a group of 4; was suprised to see the size of the restaurant only holding 30 people but it did mean excellent service. Extensive tapas menu, we went for 6 tapas & 1 serving of paella, which was great. The variety of spanish beers was excellent & the signed spanish jersey hanging on the wall is a nice touch. I'd certainly go back.

“Close but no cigar”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

The premises are small with standard tables and chairs packed in, and there isn't much decoration or atmosphere. We noticed a smell of cooking oil on entering - quite strong - it would be much better for them to drop a garlic clove or cinnamon stick on the grill at regular intervals because at least it would then smell enticing.

This little place tries hard and has a good selection on its menu, which we had explained to us in understandable terms. Most of the tapas and raciones (the next size up) we tried were not too bad. The price seemed very reasonable for the amount of food, and the sangria was respectable. Some flamenco guitar was playing as background music. Just needs a bit more cosiness and something with the lighting or decor to create a less generic atmosphere, and do something about the cooking oil smell, and it will be a much better experience.

“Not so authentic paella”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

We had heard good things about El Toro so we were looking forward to the meal, having had a really good paella in Sydney we ordered the seafood one after the waiter told us it was huge and we would not need tapas we just had olives and bread. When the paella arrived ...very quickly I was immediately disappointed it was not in a cast iron paella dish but a ceramic pot there fore not authentic! no crusty bottom which HAS to be there in a real paella which consisted of 4 large prawns, 6 mussels, large amount of calamari no fish. Overall very disapointing if we go back it will be to have tapas which judging by the other tables did look very good. We felt as if we were rushed in and out to use our table again!

“Excellent authentic tapas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

Been here twice now, once in a couple, once in a big group on a busy night. Food arrived promptly both times. Good wine selection and excellent tapas! I have spent time in Seville and other major Spanish cities and eating tapas at El Toro was like being back there! Food portions good and it was cheap too. Meatballs came out under cooked, the were swiftly replaced and we were not charged for them.
