“amazing hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

chose this hotel as the opening hotel for our 3 weeks trip to europe - it was such a lovely experience. After spending more than 13 hour of flight and directly walking around the city until late at night, the first night in Paris was completed by a really really great sleep at the hotel. Not really care about the location, mind you that is quite a distance from the city center, but it was really a great hotel with a great service and the subway is just a stone away, so no biggie there. We got an upgrade which is of course a really nice addition to our satisfaction with the hotel. Nonetheless, i think the room is quite spacious compared to the hotel that i had at downtown few years back, and the amenities are great too.

This hotel is rated as a 5 star hotel. The question is by whom? The hotel took an hour to get the booking straightened out. The room service was often late and cold. Even though they advertise 24 hour room service, you are left with a few cold sandwiches in the evening. Hard to get a taxi to the center of Paris - at least 30 euros! Then, that takes 25 min or so to arrive. Rooms are below standard compared with other Sofitel hotels that I have stayed at. The restaurant ran out of eggs , sausages, and bacon at breakfast. This is a place to avoid at all costs! There are 3 star hotels that offer superior grade accommodation in Paris.

Whilst not in the centre of Paris, the hotel is very close to the metro and a quick journey to the Arc de Triomphe.

Hotel is really nice and the rooms very comfortable. Staff are wonderful.

Highly recommended and better than the nearby Novotel

Room Tip: Away from lift

I stayed at the Sofitel 20-23 August while on a business trip in Paris.

STAFF
The staff were very efficient and helpful, i can't fault them at all.

BEDROOM
I stayed in a standard double room on the first floor. The bed was very comfortable and I slept very well.
The bathroom didn't have a bath, only a shower but I was fine with this. Robe and slippers were complimentary as well as some toiletries.
TV worked fine and I tuned in to BBC Radio 2, which I could also hear in the bathroom (nice touch) but I couldn't get my iPod to work in the BOSE system.
Wifi is complimentary for the first 3 hours, I think. Very useful to do some work in the evening.

ROOM SERVICE & MINI BAR
I ordered a croque monsieur on the first night. It arrived promptly but sadly, was ice cold The bechamel sauce on top of the sandwich was cold and congealed and the tomato soggy. For 24 euros, I would have at least expected it to be hot.
The room service and mini bar prices were the most expensive I have seen in a hotel to date and I would not order a glass of wine with my meal out of principle, it was 15 euros!
The previous reviewer was correct in stating that there are plenty of restaurants and bistros in the La Defence area with good quality food for much less.

We checked in and we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the Junior suite. Thank you!! A large room with excellent facilities including separate bath and shower, Bose radio, nespresso machine and the most comfortable bed we have ever had the pleasure to sleep in. The room was clean, serviced everyday and the staff always had a smile on their faces!! They helped us at every turn and I loved every minute of our stay. We will return!!

Just finished a week long stay in Paris at the Sofitel La Defense and we couldn't be more happy with our choice of hotels. Yes, the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of the very downtown of the city; but who really wants to stay with a massive crowd when you're on holiday? The 10-15 Metro ride plus the quiet 250m walk from the Esplanade de La Défense station was an easy trade off for the peace and quiet of our hotel after a long day of sightseeing all over the city.

From the very beginning we knew we made the right choice. Upon entering we were greeted by 5 star hospitality, and his name is Alejandro. There was some mix-up on our reservation which had us in a room with two beds. Alejandro recognized immediately that this was an error on someone's part and set about correcting it. Unfortunately he didn't have a similar room with a king sized bed, so he upgraded us to a superior room, at no charge. After the free upgrade he took the time to give us pinpoint directions from the hotel from door to the gates of Versailles.

The room itself was amazing; clean, quiet, modern, functional and very comfortable. The bathroom was perfect down to the hair dryer and I must mention the rain shower that was an experience all in itself.

I cannot speak more highly of this hotel staff. From the front desk to house cleaning to the dinning room staff, they were all perfect. We had the same waiter every morning during our breakfast and he took the time to know what we had to drink with breakfast and then made suggestions on where to venture out and what areas were good for having lunch. Again, just a small gesture on his part but that really went a long way in impressing us and reversing the infamous reputation that you so often hear about Paris.

If we ever do return to Paris, we would never think of stay anywhere but Esplanade de La Défense!

Room Tip: Buy a multi-day/multi zone Metro pass. 51 euros for a five day was money well spent for us. If you...

We stayed at the Sofitel in the La Defense area of Paris. True it is not a major tourist area, and there are not a lot of restaurants or things to see in La Defense. BUT, the hotel was fabulous - so comfortable, and the staff could not be more friendly or helpful. The room was comfortable (they upgraded us for a very reasonable amount), clean, the bed wonderfully comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. Robes and slippers and toiletries were a treat! Hermes toiletries were nice touch. The La Defense area is a beautiful example of what urban landscapes could be with imagination - the square, fountains, sculptures, made for a very pleasant walk, and the location of the area - at the most western edge of the Champs Elysee looking down toward the Arc de Triomphe was awesome. All in all, a great hotel.

Room Tip: Given that there is no traffic allowed on the esplanade, I don't think there is a bad room!
