Description: The Bay Horse retains an emphasis on the finer details of a real old English pub, hand pulled local ales in dimple glasses and side dishes served in copper pans. The menu is made up of classic British cooking with a twist & has a strong emphasis on flavours & presentation. The premise has achieved a Michelin Bib Gourmand for the last four years.

“As good as ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Another return visit to this lovely pub/restaurant. The food was as good as always, but service was a little bit "under par". Worth noting that Tuesday is "French night" where a good value menu is on offer for about £22.

“Another excellent lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Four very enthusiastic food lovers enjoyed a most delightful lunch last week. Two of us had been before and never been disappointed but we were anxious that, having sung its praises so loudly, it might not come up to scratch. We needn't have worried; the service was impeccable, the food delicious and beautifully presented without being too fussy and wines just right. This was the first time I'd strayed from the prix fixe and it was "a triumph" as the late Michael Winner might have said. I cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough. I can't think of a nicer place to eat in the area

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Four of us for lunch..all foodies...two of us in the industry...so expectations high... and fulfilled superbly. Running Millgate House in Richmond we are always on the look out for good places to eat and this will now be on our list. The food was beautifully presented without too much fuss. The whole place is unpretentious but efficient, professional and relaxed. The wines were excellent...good choices and not at silly prices. The main courses...four of us had different things were stunningly good. Quantites just perfect...presentation on the plate admirable...flavours balanced, worked together and interesting...great menu...Prix fix excellent value too at lunch. The pace of the meal was perfect...not rushed but not slow...just right. The desserts were terrific...great choices... again beautiful presentation, great variety of flavours, perfect quantities.
Coffee...always an acid test and generally a failure in the UK...was....amazingly good...It takes skill to make a good double espresso... rarely achieved outside of Italy... but success here...strong but no hint of bitterness and with a divine "truffle"...A truly delightful lunch....congratulations to the Chef and his team...also spot on service...all too rare.
We were tempted to stay for dinner but will save this treat for another time.

“Never had a bad meal there”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

Great venue with equally delightful food. The sort of place when it's cold outside you can sit in front if the open fire and have food that would not be out of place in a top London restaurant. There are some fine places in the north and this is one of them.

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Lovely pub. Really friendly and welcoming. I only popped in for a quick lunch so only chose one thing from an interesting menu. Ordered the seafood platter and it was extraordinarily good. Nine or ten separate little dishes; simple ones and complex ones, all beautifully prepared. One of the loveliest meals I have eaten, and at only a tenner, certainly the best value by some way. Really impressed. Crying shame I live 400 miles away. Considering a move.
