“Amazing Restaurant As Well!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

We did not stay at Amandari but we went for my son's birthday dinner because we had stayed at Amandari 17 years ago and knew how amazing the property was. The service was terrific and the meal was unforgettable. It is an amazing hotel but it is also an amazing restaurant so it is worth going for a meal, even if you are not staying there!

My husband and I arrived at Amandari just after sunset. We were on our honeymoon. At first glance the structure was modest, designed to mimic an old Balinese Village. It was built with high paras stone walls and thatched roofs. We stepped out of our car into an open air courtyard which was serene and quiet and smelled of incense. The only noise to be heard were the toads and frogs hiding in the vegetation around us. We were immediately greeted by at least four people who all already knew (and addressed us by) our names. One of them took our bags and welcomed us while the others got us cold drinks, talked to us about what type of experience we’d like to have there, gave us our room keys, and a short tour around the grounds.

Upon entering our private rainforest bungalow, a big bowl of local fruits; most of which I had never seen before, and a bottle of champagne awaited us. Accompanying it was a little book telling us about each fruit. (Thank god for this because some of them looked so scary I would have never tried them had it not said how yummy they were in the descriptions!) Soft balinese music was setting the mood in our room and incense had been burning, filling the air with a wonderful yet different smell. The Amandari staff really went out of their way to make this experience one of the best. Our 2 story bungalow was very spacious. It had a thatched roof and wooden beams. The decor was clean and minimal.

The next morning when I woke up I took a look outside. We had our own pool and cabana, which was great, but even greater was the fact that our villa was sitting on a rice terrace. We could sit and watch the local people work their magic on the sprouting rice fields, right from our chaise lounge in the back yard.

I read in a book that the best way to discover Bali was to find a path and follow it. Bali has paths everywhere you look. So we set out to follow the path just outside of our villa. The sound of toads and frogs and crickets filled the outside air. It smelled of that amazing and fresh “just rained” smell which I love so much! The paths at Amandari lead to so many beautiful surprises. If you stay here make sure you follow the paths toward the river.

At night we had such different and marvelous dining experiences. The food was magnificent. The first night we had them set up a private candlelit dinner under the cabana in our back yard. It was not just room service. There was a server waiting on us the entire time. And what service it was! I was blown away by the experience. The second night we reserved a private table situated on a little island surrounded by a koi pond. The table was set to the nines and had our names written on a banana leaf in the middle. The third night we had an enchanting private rainforest dinner. If you have never had Indonesian food, you should! What a taste bud delectation!

The activities offered by the resort are one in a million. They are not to be missed. We went white water rafting as well as rode bikes around the villages. Simply to die for!

Amandari did not really stand out to me as an outstanding resort, I would give it a solid 7 out of 10 for many reasons. First, many of the villas are two floors, and I find it bothersome to keep going up and down the small spiral stairs to get down to the main bathroom (they have a small bathroom upstairs) or go to the living room. Also, the spa is very small and a bit old although they have a great gym. Love the pool too !

To pay a premium for an Aman resort, you expect top spa. However, the hotel is 25 years old and there isnt much that can be done. Food is ok, do no expect great food in Bali. The only excellent top food was at Mozaic in Ubud. A must. In any case, If I was going back to Ubud I would not stay at Amandari, I would rather stay at Como Shambala.

Room Tip: The room with a view overlooks a construction site (they are building a ritz carlton below) so make...

Best thing about our trip to bali was this hotel. Amazing attentive caring staff. Anything you need is attended to, even if it's not possible they make it happen. They are super efficient.
The staff really care. One of us fell when biking and when we got back to the hotel, everyone was concerned and asking and checking and they had a nurse ready on arrival, and it was just a minor cut. They SPOIL YOU!

They're really considerate and don't have this thirst for money. They are genuinely kind helpful people who want to serve and please. They make you feel at home and they make you feel you're with family.

Something we are unable to forget was their incredible food. We had 6 different destinations of the best hotels in 3 different countries this past month and the amandari had by far the best most memorable food. We are still craving the meals prepared for us by the very talented and kind Chef Rick! He is the highlight of our trip. He even gave us all the recipes typed up and printed. Must try the guacamole!

Laundry always smelt so good on return and super quick. They even leave you a laundry basket to throw your clothes in. Just like being at home!

The manager was so attentive and engaged with each guest. They make each guest feel important. There is such a happy vibe there.

The views of the hotel are breathtaking and the rooms are lovely and spacious. We had a Gorgeous valley view from our room.

We loved our driver swastica. He was so polite and patient and hardworking and stayed with us full days and we felt so comfortable all ride long. There was even wifi in the car and constant fresh towels waiting for us whenever we returned to the car.
They make everything easy and really cater to your needs. The front desk team are so efficient and patient and helpful. This was a True luxury experience.

Every day before bedtime they left us a gift on our bed. Things representative of the Balinese culture with a little note. This was so special. It's these little touches that differentiates a good 5 star to an AMAZing 5 star. And most hotels aren't that attentive!
Oh and not to mention the super quick arrival of huge orders or room service. The food would come as fresh as if we are sitting in the restaurant. The food quality, Hotel quality, room quality, service quality is beyond top notch!!

My wife & I stayed here in February 2014 and considered it to be among the most beautiful & unique resorts ever. For our 30th wedding anniversary & part of a S Pacific trip, we marveled at the beauty, grace, spirituality and quality of this well run resort. Our experience included: we were greeted by 2 children dressed up in traditional Bali outfits when we first arrived; enjoyed the stunning colors of all the plants, birds, flowers & trees; stayed in our breathtakingly gorgeous cottage room with outside bathtub, gardens, overlooking rice fields; dined on scrumptious food, utilized their first rate concierge, massage & health spa services; and raved about the infinity pool day & night as we watched the sunsets & the birds swooping down to catch some water, listening to the Balinese musicians there. This is a good stepping off point to go on a myriad of tours...rice fields, monkey sanctuary, elephants, shopping. pricey for sure, but the experience one receives here is truly one you want to experience at least once in your life. We spent a little time with a few of the top managers and concierges here & they do an outstanding job taking care of their guests & representing the resort.

Heaven on earth from the moment your greeted by the staff when arriving to leaving in the Amandari car with the staff's gifts and warm goodbyes. In between you have an over the top accommodation large enough for a party, a 30 foot vaulted ceiling and a lovely bath with an outdoor sunken tub. Views from your terrace are of foliage, rice paddies, and free of your neighbor's rooms. When stepping into your room you are shown all of the hidden charms plus given a heavenly "pot pie," cookies and a towering arrangement of delicious tropical fruits. Gifts that are intentioned for one to take upon departing are rattan tubes holding beautiful sarongs, lovely baskets and a small rooster who appears at your nightly turn down service. The resort has a multitude of spa services. The massage was the best ever - done in the privacy of your room if you ask. There is a menu of daily activities, everything from elephant rides to cooking classes. Nary a moment of boredom here. The restaurant has Balinese food and "American" food. Your choice or mingle the cultures. I could go on and on. As you can see, I loved every moment of our stay.

Room Tip: All are good

Last week my family (my wife and I, along with my elderly mother) returned to Amandari for five fabulous days and nights. This was our second visit to Amandari in about 14 months. Once again, we had a great time, with excellent food, warm and very helpful staff, very large and spacious villa-style suite accommodations, enjoyable massages in Amandari’s spa, and a knowledgeable and safe driver/guide who took us on day trips all around Bali. Amandari is also very good at the small (and free!) things that make a stay truly memorable – like picking you up and dropping you off at the airport, having a jar of tasty homemade chocolate cookies in every room, placing in your room every night a gift of a small piece of Bali art for you to take home, giving you a wonderful brownie as you are leaving to enjoy on the plane ride home, and offering complementary yoga lessons several mornings each week. To stay here is to enjoy luxury in its most pure sense, while also being minutes away from all of the culture and shopping of Ubud.

On this visit, one of our suites (#14) had a private “infinity” swimming pool. We really enjoyed swimming, and sunning ourselves poolside, especially since the views of the Bali countryside from our room’s pool area were stunning. There also was a nice covered area in our private pool area with a table and chairs, so that we could enjoy room service poolside.

In short, Amandari = paradise.

Room Tip: We were in #14, which was wondeful. It was very private and had its own pool.
