“Cathar Ruin Being Preserved”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

This was the nearest Cathar stronghold to the Gite we stayed in for our summer holiday. Now rather ruinous, the owners are working hard to preserve it in near original condition with only a few nods towards modern health and safety. An English guidebook was provided which was thorough and informative and there was a well stocked ticket office/gift shop in a little wooden hut in the car park.

And oh, the views! Easy to ascend from the car park on foot, but offering a vista over the plain around Tuchan. Please visit, pay the small amount of money requested and help preserve this little gem.

“Cannot compete with the big boys but interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Difficult approach to this castle. The road is very narrow and there is hardly anywhere to pass. We were lucky that when we met two cars coming the other way we were able to pull into a small driveway between vines. Most other places there were ditches either side.

We had already, somewhat adventurously, visited the big ones of Peyrepertuse and Queribus that day and were perhaps tiring but although interesting as always, it paled in comparison. We were given an A4 booklet that gave the history and information about the castle which sort of worked but was a bit cumbersome when clambering around. Would suggest you do what we did and stop off if it is on your route but don't make a special trip.
