Yunquera is a great place from which to investigate inland Andalucia and the "real" Spain. There is a fabulous municipal swimming pool with tennis, a climbing "mountain", a campsite, BBQ area and wonderful mountain walks that are well signposted.
Hotel Asencio is near the central square and is a traditional Andaluz hotel. Pepe, the owner is friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic and dated but clean and tidy. The restaurant is nicely appointed but the food is not to my taste - peas and carrots out of a jar really annoy me when the fresh vegetables in the Andalucia are so wonderful. In the town are a couple of basic eateries like bar Quini and the one opposite at the top of the main street as you enter the town and Enara (or a name similar) which is a bit posher.
I would recommend the area and the hotel as a base for a couple of days.
