“Nice - but loud music at night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We went to stay at the Aberdare Cottages for a weekend away from Nairobi. The staff were friendly, rooms were small but comfortable and the setting was lovely. BUT - on both the Friday and Saturday night the restaurant/bar played loud music which reverberated down to the cottages and kept us awake. On the Friday night I had to go to the restaurant at 1:30am and ask for the music to be turned off - which it then was. However after many apologies from the staff, the whole thing was repeated again on the Saturday night, but this time it played until 4:30am....
Since we wanted a weekend of peace and quiet it was very disappointing that the noise at night ruined an otherwise enjoyable weekend away.

First, the road to this place from Nairobi is great! So much better than say the road to Naivasha. We made the trip in exactly 3 hours. We went off-season, so we were the only guests at the place. It was kind of ideal!
We stayed in the luxury tent and it was beautifully decorated. Very rustic. It opened on to the river. The staff was very attentive and nice. We did not really leave the place because we were there to relax, but they do have activities.
By the way, they serve tea closer to the river and you walk through the tea plantation. It's really quite romantic!

Room Tip: Luxury tents are definitely better. Off season rates are the same for all kinds of room. I would go...

We were a big group with 7-8 families and had the resort exclusively to ourselves. it was truly a wonderful stay and the staff was super friendly and cooperative. the place is beautiful and hiking to the river nearby was the best part of the trip. we loved every minute of our stay and had no complaints at all. the chalets / rooms were basic but very clean and overall it had a very quaint feel to it.

we would love to go back and would highly recommend aberdare cottages to all travelers!

Thank you Zac, John and all the staff who helped made our stay so comfortable and memorable.

We had a fantastic stay at Aberdere Cottages and have only just got round to writing a review! They looked after us beautifully and it is a magical spot to stay. Also great place to be based when exploring the national park.

I would definitely ask if they can show you the village school that they support - we had a wonderful afternoon playing with kids in the library!

Room Tip: Any that look directly out over the valley - but I think this is most of them!

This is an absolute gem of a place. Zac Gichane is a wonderful host - extremely knowledgeable, and instantly likeable, and his little lodge has got an unbeatable atmosphere. The food served in the restaurant is what you'd expect from a fancy Mara lodge, at the price of a hostel. The cottages are immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, with even a hot bottle to warm up the bed for those cold highland nights. I'd recommend this inexpensive lodge to anyone looking for accomodation anywhere in the Central highlands.

Hello travelers.
am so happy to share with you my experience away from my normal life in Nairobi which is usually ful of Noise and traffic jam.A friend of mine informed me on Aberdage cottages and campsite in Murang'a,with a will to refresh the December partying and vacation we set off on a Friday noon to the lodge.
the drive was fine and it took us 3hrs to there,on our way we enjoyed mangoes and banana's which are in season at a place called Maragua.we then drove straight to the lodge thanks to our guide.
We were met by staffs like David who was our house keeper and enjoyed dinner at the fireplace, the place has cool atmosphere although its cold at night ,please don't make the mistake of ignoring the air heater since we had ourselves to blame,on Saturday we went for a walk in Aberdare forest.on Sunday before we left we did fishing and we caught enough to last us a month.
If you are looking for a place consider going there and please don't forget your swimming costume since we never swam because we didn't have them.

Room Tip: you can go for the cottages or for camping tents
