“Really Beautiful and Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

A return visit for us. We spent 3 nights at Ocean View Chalets, this time with our grown up family. Robert welcomed us and showed us to our chalets and apartments. Once again, the accommodation was very clean and everything you could hope to find was there! Robert booked a boat trip package for us for the Saturday and it was a wonderful experience. The weather was glorious and the trip really memorable. The following day was very wet with little hope of improvement so, once again, Robert came to our rescue and booked us all on a Wine Tour which was wonderful......certainly a very enjoyable way to spend a very wet day!

The setting of Ocean View Chalets is very impressive, and the views are stunning. The accommodation is excellent and the customer care superb.......we absolutely recommend!

Room Tip: All the chalets have stunning views

This review is a bit late! We stayed in the Ocean View Chalets for a couple of nights in October 13, and really should have stayed longer.

We were made very welcome by Robert, a knowledgable and attentive host. The setting is wonderful as are the views. The chalet was impeccably clean and well equipped. Locally, the Park Cafe is a short walk away for an evening meal and Robert makes a great breakfast.

The birdlife in the area is interesting, and we had our very own morepork (NZ owl) in a tree by the chalet! The peace and beauty is really well worth the drive to the end of the road where you are right on the boundary of the Abel Tasman National Park for easy access.

This is a fine-tuned operation. Our lovely apartment had an amazing view of the Tasman Sea; we'd sit outside on a balcony each night sipping wine and star-gazing before stumbling into the plush and comfy bed. Robert was a very considerate and gracious host - I felt as if he were a friend. When he discovered my interest in food and art, he brought me a cookbook created by artists in the Nelson area. His advise on places we'd enjoy - Golden bay, sea kayaking, eating at the Mussel Inn - was spot-on. He sincerely wants your experience in Abel Tasman to suit your taste. Thank-you Robert!

Room Tip: Don't dilly-dally; this place books well in advance.

Stayed in the premium chalet (no 10) which had absolutely everything you could wish for from laundry to full size kitchen (incl dishwasher) to piano to top class sound system to large plasma TV and free wifi AND stunning views with 2 balconies!!
This was just heaven and not unsurprisingly was never bettered during our time in NZ although 2 or 3 got close. The owner was helpful and the service staff were excellent too.
Book early and pay the extra it is well worth it.
If it wasn't 11000 miles away we'd be back every year.
A1, top notch, 5 stars etc etc - just perfect accommodation in a beautiful location.

Room Tip: Go for the premium chalet (there is only 1)

We really enjoyed our stay. Perfect location for exploring the Abel Tasman National Park (it's the closest place you can stay at without staying in the park). Lovely outlook to the water from the balcony where we enjoyed a wine (or two) before dinner. What amazed us the most was how impeccably clean the place was - so well maintained and cared for. We stayed in a 1 bedroom chalet and it had everything we needed (all cooking utensils, tea, coffee etc). Rooms were serviced daily. The staff were accommodating and knowledgeable and assisted with booking in boat trips and provided honest dinner recommendations (fat tuis for burgers - unreal and sooo big and the park cafe - one of the best fish meals I've ever sampled - catch of the day was amazing). We could easily have stayed another couple of nights.

Dear RhiannonJS,

Thank you for staying with us and for leaving such a brilliant review.
The Fat Tui burgers really are out-of-this-world, aren't they!! Definitely a "must try" whilst in Marahau. And the seafood at the Park Cafe is always incredible.
We are very lucky to have such amazing eating options so close to us.

Kind regards and all the best,
Chris and the Ocean View Chalets Team.

Stayed in Chalet no. 3. As far as I can see all the chalets have beautiful views. They are quite close together but very private due to the way they are aligned. A real plus was being able to use the washing machine and we had a clothes rack on the balcony as well to air out swimsuits and so on. It was a very comfortable stay. We cooked our own breakfast but you could buy it in the restaurant if you forgot to stock up on supplies. The chalets are a short walk from the town and close to the park so they are perfectly located. Robert and his family are very friendly and knowledgeable and only too happy to help out with trips and itineraries. Some places you stay you can see the owners are jaded from having to deal with so many people during the season. I never felt this here at all.

Marahau is a tiny area tucked against the entrance to Abel Tasman Park, but well worth the drive. This is the launching spot for all sorts of activities in the park. Ocean View was a perfect location for us. It was quiet yet close to all the hiking and kayaking. Robert was really welcoming and helpful. He booked all of the activities for us and the operators picked us up practically at our front door. Our cabin was meticulously appointed with all the kitchen supplies. It was really special to sit with a glass of wine and watch the colors of the sky as the sunset. We watched the horses graze in the fields below. Very relaxing 3 night stay.
