My husband and i just make sure that we enjoy our money when we spend. Otherwise smugglers would have been a complete waste of time. We spent a week at smugglers Cove and if it wasnt for alcohol how boring would that be? I mean the day time entertainment is ok. The entertainment staff try. Especially Chacho and chantal and Junior and Dre. Nikita seems lost most of the times.

In the evening entertainment, there is nothing going on but the smugglers Roots band, who are really hard working and try their best to make the night good. But too bad, they have been provided the worst equipment you can think of. You can see the struggles. Bravo to the singer DEZZI. He is so damn talented. Tries his best to make the crowd enjoy the night and he can sing anything. He is all that makes sense in the evening. He is alone and has no help from anyone else.
The movement dancers suck. They need to upgrade.

I think the staff of smugglers need to learn to treat and speak to each other respectfully especially bar staff and security guards. They seem so HOSTILE to eachother. I over heard two security guards speaking to the musicians like dogs kicking them out of the hotel after they had just had a brilliant performance on monday night. That was Shocking being that they are the only ones that make sense. He could have asked them to leave nicely especially in the presence of guests. I hope these security guards learn some courtesy. That was bad. I felt sorry for the three boys.

Food needs help.
Drive to and from the airport is long and tiring but good views all along.

I think smugglers needs to bring a smile to the guests by first bringing a smile to the staff.

I wont recommend this place till they upgrade both physically and staff hospitality.

Leaving St Lucia today after 10 fun-filled days at Smugglers Cove. We are sad to be leaving this beautiful island. The warmth of the people in and outside the resort has been amazing. We were blown away by the patience of the gentlemen at the water sports dept especially Mervyn, Dwight & Orlando. They taught me to water ski!
The resort is nice, food is good and facilities for kids are great. Only disappointing aspect was the evening entertainment. "Dre" was great and seemed to do a lot with limited resources but "band" scheduled to perform was cancelled several times during our stay. The alternative to Dre - Junior - wasn't very nice/good either.
Staff overall were excellent. Gerard in the restaurant and his team of servers were super. Bar staff were always pleasant despite dealing with constant demands for cocktails, etc. Javid, James & Delbert in particular were super and always pleasant in dealing with adults & kids in the lounge area.
Ownership of the resort changed while we were here - it will be interesting to see what kind of impact (if any) this will have on the standard/facilities provided. This was our 7th stay at this resort and probably our most enjoyable. We plan to return again

My boyfriend and I have just returned from Smugglers Cove this month after spending 12 wonderful nights and days at this beautiful resort. I love the village style theme of the resort and how their is something for everyone to enjoy whether it is the food, relaxation or activities. Although the hotel is quite far from the airport and secluded there is quite allot of amenities and activites so did not miss being near the town.

One of the reasons I chose this hotel was the many activties they have on offer. Chantel who was from the entertainment team shown us around the hotel on the first morning was so professional and bubbly and made you feel you wanted to take part in the activities. She is such a hardworker and always running around making sure everyone is ok and trying to involve people so we are all having fun. Chantel is a great ambassador for the hotel. I would also like to thank Cowboy the fitness instructor for the great classes in pilates, yogo and water aerobics. Although he worked us hard I feel I could do anything due to his fun approach.Cha Cho the entertainment supervisor was also a great person who always had a smile for you.I love the Happy video he created for the hotel a very talented person and an absolute star. Seeing that video would make anyone want to stay at the hotel.

I absolutely love the food at the hotel which had so much to choice with 4 restaurants to choose from. Crystal at the Cove restaurant with her brillant smile was very welcoming. My favourite restaurant was the Italian restaurant where the staff are so professional and very attentive. Especially Jennifer the supervisor for the restaurant who was always so welcoming with a beautiful smile, nothing was too much trouble for her and she always went out of her way to make sure you got what you wanted.

I meant some great people at the hotel and made some wonderful friends. On my last night at the hotel my boyfriend and I booked for the Italian restaurant but our friends who wanted to make a reservation for the same night was unable to due to the restaurant being fully booked. We spoke to Erlando and asked if would share a table who went out of her way so we could spent our last night with our friends which had made our evening so enjoyable. I really appreciate what she has done for us.

In summary I would like to say this is a fantastic hotel in a beautiful place and would recommend anyone to stay here.

I usually don't post reviews like this as I was always taught that if you've nothing nice to say best to say nothing. This time however, I felt I had to let others know what they could expect from this resort. I too had read all the reviews prior to arriving, the horrible ones and really I didn't know what to expect once there so I wanted to shed light for others...
The drive from the airport to this resort is quite far but once there the resort does offer you quite a lot of amenities and the a la carte's along with the buffet's food is all very good, a wonderful assortment for even the pickiest of eaters. However this is no upscale resort by any means.
It is quite dated and a real hit and miss when it comes to the rooms. Some may have been updated over time but most of the rooms we saw could use a complete makeover. I'm not talking about furniture here but more to do with regular maintenance stuff. Sadly, the resort has changed hands more often that it's ever been fixed up or renovated. It's owners will have to commit a lot of money to get this place in tip top shape. I understand from the staff that they are trying to make it better.
The staff (although scarce) are wonderful and pleasant, always working with a smile on their face and doing their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The Italian restaurant will let you pre-order a pizza. They'll have it ready for you to pick up and enjoy while relaxing on the beach or pool side. If a BBQ is more your thing they do offer lunch on the beach, weather permitting. It's set up by the Buffet restaurant within distance to the beach.
This resort would be ideal for a family vacation as you could relax and let your kids be kids (all ages). Everything is in close proximity, restaurant, buffet, pools and beach. For us (2 adults 50+), It was more like being away at the cottage but with the added bonus of having someone to do the cooking and cleaning. We've stayed at AC 3 and 4 star resorts that would have us thinking we were at a 5 star. This is not one of those resorts.
What upset us most was that we upgraded our room at time of booking and when we saw our appointed room (436) we were quite taken by surprise. It was very small with just the basic furnishings, bed, side tables, a desk and chair. The bathroom was clean but in need of some repairs. A set of new taps could have made the bathroom sparkle a little, like a said nothing elaborate but it was clean. We only stayed one night in this room as we discovered our patio door would not open and therefore couldn't make use of the terrace. Too bad, the location wasn't ideal either as it was very close to the septic system near by, it did offer a nice pool view.
We upgraded again, this time to a suite (105). A much bigger unit, still dated but liveable and clean, although further away from the amenities. It was like being at the cottage and it was in a quiet location.
All in all we had a good holiday just surprised when comparing this resort to other's that we've stayed at with similar ratings. We've been to the Dominican, Antigua, Jamaica and would definitely not give this a 3-1/2 based on our comparisons..

We stayed here for the first two week of June, and after reading some of the reviews we were nervous and ready for a fight when we got there with regards to the room. However this wasn't to be the case at all.

Our flight with Virgin was amazing. They couldn't do enough for you, and although throughly professional, they are extremely down to earth too. Will defo use Virgin again.

WARNING FOR SMOKERS - On arriving to St Lucia, you have no other option but to go through a controlled custom desk once you collect your bags. They say you are not allowed to bring in cigarettes to St Lucia however they allow 200 pp. We unfortunately had more than that and got stung for nearly £100 in tax before being able to leave the airport. Not a great start to our holiday, but soon forgotten once we hit the hotel.

The drive to the hotel is extremely long, on very small winedy roads in a not so great mini bus. My husband felt a little travel sick. The check in to the hotel was swift, and pleasant, a lovely welcome drink which was appreciated especially after the journey from the airport. We got our keys to our room and a map of the resort, and realised our room was directly across from the reception area, room 114. We walked our own bags to the room as it wasn't worth asking a lobby boy to do it but they will take you and your luggage to to room via a gold cart if you wish. Well we were very pleasantly surprised by our room, it was a wonderful room with separate lounge area, large flat screen TV in the bedroom, which we love and a massive American style washing bathroom area with a separate bathroom and toilet. A coffee percolator was supplied with daily replenishments of the coffee, sugar, tea and coffee mate. We were very pleased in deed.
The room itself was cleaned to a great satisfaction each day without any fuss or problems. It was always cleaned when we were out around the pool/ beach area. Fresh towels each day and although we didn't ask for it, the sheets were constantly changed. There is a safe in the room and we used it all the time, however the laptop didn't fit in, so we put it in a drawer and it was perfectly safe all through our stay. There are a few movie channels for those of us who didn't bother with nighttime entertainment. They was always something to watch. Outside the room there is some wonderful wildlife especially the hummingbirds and the very large caterpillars they were great.

The hotel was only half full if that. But all the facilities were open to us all. The 3 extra speciality restaurants were open if you wanted to make a booking. You can book them as many times as you like. We tried them all, the italian was wonderful and you can use this one at lunch times too if you didn't fancy the buffet or the BBQ on the beach. The pizzas are lovely in here. We tried the seafood, and although lovely and in a great position on the resort, we aren't great fish lovers so didn't go back. Cafe Asia is LOVELY. Really lovely duck, spring rolls and Chashew Chicken they only disappointment was we left it late in our holiday to bother to go to this one, and we felt gutted not to of used it more. Hello to the girls there and Clinton of course.

All the pools were lovely, yes a little tired in places, but tbh we have been to resorts all around the world and have NEVER found any of them to be 100% perfect. The staff are constantly cleaning and making sure its acceptable for the guests.

The buffet restaurant was lovely a little repepitive at times, however once again show me a AI anywhere in the world that dosent get a bit samey at times. Charlene one of the girls working there was a extremely pretty and light humoured young lady, she would shush the cats away from our tables a bit of a fruitless exercise because they were back again in 2 seconds lol. She sang all the time and was a wonderful girl.

Talking of the cats, some reviewers have complained about them, but tbh after travelling a bit around the carribbean, stray wild cats are an issue everywhere and not just this hotel. It seems that the authorities in the West Indies don't really have guidelines on cats and dogs and how to control strays, so they are everywhere. They are harmless and will run away from you, they are just looking for scraps. The kittens were extra special though. People who moan about the cats, birds etc, your in a very hot, tropical climate, where eating outside is essential to enjoy the weather, wildlife is a part of life, smile and enjoy, don't get upset, its your holiday after all.

The watersports were fantastic. My husband lovely to waterski, and he did it to his hearts content. The wonderful guys in the sports centre mainly Dwight, Jayson, Mervin were extremely great with him and took him out twice a day, he was in his element. Everyone in the resort could use the facilities banana boat ride, canoes, catamaran and wind surfing snorkelling etc. The guys are extremely patient and informative for beginners wanting to try the waterskiing which is unusual in some these resorts. So all out love to those guys from Dave and Kerry xxxx

Each morning we would get up very early and go down to work with the free wifi in the Piton lounge, you could get the free wifi here and there on the beach however my hubby had to send back some large emails to the UK so we bought a weeks worth of Wifi to use in the room and let the laptop run, this was easier for us. Each morning one of the cleaners cleaned the Piton lounge without disturbing us or anyone even though he had a proper mess left behind for him from the guests watching the entertainment the night before. I feel these guys get so overlooked by everyone, so I tipped him one day for doing a fantastic job and he was shocked. He told us no one has ever tipped him before and thanked him for a good job. Well he did and we appreciated it.

The resort itself is very big, we walked up around some of the older rooms, and yes they look a little like butlins in the sun 1950's style however I think they are used for the short stayers or when the hotel is full.

The beaches in St Lucia are all public, so expect to see locals on them, however the 3 guys selling on the beach in Smugglers cove are licences by the Government to be there they cannot set foot on the hotel property. August is the large guy, with Jumbo selling necklaces, however there is another guy Julius selling necklaces beware of him. He comes across as a very nice and charming man, befriending you and lulling you into a false sense of security, however he is a conman and a ripe off. While we were there we saw a few couples chasing him each day for their change never to get it. Try to avoid him we did and were grateful.

We did the Virgins Ahoy trip to the Pitons, we chose the mud pit option rather than walking around the volcano but when we got there it STUNK. It smelled like a cesspit. But looked a bit of fun lol.
The trip was great and a lovely way to see the island from the sea.

Finally rather than taking the trip back to the airport via road, we opted for the helicopter ride as a treat, and it was AMAZING, well worth the cash £100 each. Great way to see the pitons from the air. takes 15 mins to the airport. The airport itself has not a lot in it. Only one shop selling cigarettes with about 4 brands to choose from. So if you buying ciggies buy them before you go and pick up on your return.

We would defo go back here again, but there is a lot to see in the world, but one day we will pop back. But if you are going there soon, have a wonderful time, don't worry about the bad reviews unless you expect 5 star on 3 star money. I am well Jel xxxxx

We read a few reviews on here about Smugglers Cove before booking and as one of the most affordable resorts on the Island we decided to just go for it, my boyfriend and I. Ok there are a few tatty bits such as tiling in the bathrooms a little old and there are a few uneven bits on the pathways.....BUT the location was amazing, beach clean, resort lovely, amazing and great variety of food (I am a veggie and ate very well), pools always clean. Our room was much bigger than we expected and the bed was a massive king size, room for 4 people in it and so comfortable we slept so well and cleaned to a very high standard every day. We have just come back so going in June is a great time not very busy at all but is about to start getting busier as the USA families start heading over in July but I cannot fault any of this place. The staff were fantastic and if you want 100% perfection then pay double the price with Sandals. If you are happy with a comfortable clean room, great food, lovely staff, a choice of 7 clean and large swimming pools, fab evening entertainment, activities, stunning beach and even water sports thrown in then this IS the place to go. the only downside to this place was coming home!!!!!

Room Tip: We chose a standard room which had a living area, bedroom, vanity sink/dressing area, bath, separate...

We had a wonderful holiday at this resort. The room was basic but comfortable & we got what we paid for & it was more than adequate for our needs. Management had a weekly cocktail party where they spoke to guests for ideas & took on comments. Lovely pools, 2 of which were for adults only. All the staff were so friendly & always smiling. Food was varied with a different themed buffet each night & 3 other restaurants to choose from but these had to be booked. My favourite was the Waterfront restaurant where you looked out over the sea.
My only complaint was that the boat for the banana ride was not working for a few days but this did not spoil my holiday
