“What I expected, had a great time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We arrived and even though they had 3 planes arrive around the same time and check in was chaos, they were efficient in getting evryone to their rooms in a timely manner. The only thing i found with the checkin process was that there was no "front desk", and patrons didnt know where to go or what to do for the process of check in. An improvement would be to install what would appear as a standard lobby counter so that new arrivals could easily see wherer they need to go and possibly form a line as to avoid confusion.
Once situated it was entertaining finding one's way around. The paths are very twisty turny and in the evening when dark is somewhat poorly lit. While we found it amusing, i could see how others would not like this feature. Some areas where very well lit, but up in the Baboneau area it was very dark. There are lots of directional signs to let you know where the pools, lobby, Piton Lounge, and other major items are located. The entire resort was constantly cleaned and there was none of the waste smell that was present at other resaorts we have stayed at in other countries. The rooms also did not have a musty odour like we have experienced before. The buffet was very well managed and i liked the fact that you were seated, it didnt seem like a feeding trough. The food was excellent, with lots of variety at dinner time and had great flavour. pools were very nice, clean and spacious. There was several pools for different atmospheres. kids were in one, activities in another, swim up bar in another, adults only in a quieter area, and another lounging type area. The ocean was marvelous. It was far warmer than i have experienced in the past in other areas. The staff, is super friendly, and the presence of cleaning staff was formidable!
One suggestion is that the management look at the bartending situation. Need more batenders as it was a fairly common practice to wait in line for a beverage. The BBC is a fantastic drink, I highly recommend it.
the resort is on a hill and walking up and down slight grades is a necessity. If walking is a struggle, you may find it difficult to move around. There are shuttles around, I am not sure how efficient this is as we didnt need or use them. It was a marvelous way at combatting the possible weight gain from the buffet and bbc's.
Alough we had no issues with our room, a neighbouring couple had some issues with their toilet and A/C unit. I was happy to hear that the issues were addressed promptly and fixed properly, so that there was no residual issue.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Sumggler's Cove. When we first arrived the staff was very curteous and informative. They showed us to our room which was a "garden view" room and the first thing we saw was that the door was open. Apparently, the door lock was broken. We asked for this to be fixed and it was fixed on day 2. The air conditioning did not cool properly and we asked for this to be repaired as well and they said they couldn't. It was cooling as good as it could. I didn't have a hair dryer in my room so I requested one. They brought me a hair dryer that wouldn't fit in the outlet in the bathroom. I had to get a mirror delivered to the room so I could put it beside the TV which had the only outlet the hair dryer would work in. The faucets were falling out of the wall in the bathroom as well as had ants and a roach. We didn't request a new room because it seemed like all of the rooms at this resort was below our standards. We heard other people at the resort say their "ocean view" room was good. The food was terrible and the service bad also. We ended up eating outside the resort some of the time and it was much better. The resort had very cheap entertainment and unprofessional excursions. The excursion tour we booked ended up leaving 2 snorklers behind on our trip and we were told later that this company was not a reputable company to book a tour with. The resort should look into who they are booking tours with. The island was beautiful and the water was clear. I would definitely go back to St Lucia, but will stay in a different resort.

Room Tip: Upgrade to an ocean view.

We booked this hotel as a surprise 40th birthday treat for my husband and my sister in law booked for my brothers 50th. We thought that maybe we would get a little treat, but no, not even a Happy Birthday. Our first impression of the hotel is that it is in need of some TLC. Wardrobe doors and bathroom door not painted very well which made them look dirty. Cupboards and drawers that would not stay closed, no fridge (even though we asked many times). The food was ok, didn't come away from any restaurant thinking that the food was great and we must go again. The Trattoria was the best but not great. The temperature in the Cove buffet was far too hot with birds flying in and landing on the counters constantly. Not enough parasols on the beach so you had to be up at five if you wanted to guarantee some shade. You can lie under the palm trees but you do run the risk of getting bird muck on you. Entertainment was dated and repetative. A lot of times in the bar at night we had to drink out of plastic cups as they had run out of glasses and we were constantly queuing for drinks as they are not allowed to give you a bottle (coke, sprite etc). All these niggles make it sound like we didn't have a good holiday which couldn't be further from the truth as Smugglers Cove has a very laid back feel but we felt this is more of a 3 star establishment and have stayed at far better on other Caribbean islands.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 439 and 441. They are a great location for the Cove Restaurant, the bar, pool an...

Was totally put off by all the bad comments but on the whole loved it here. Had a beautiful room opposite the Nursery (which was fab) my little boy also went to the kids club which he loved. The girls are all wonderful, we had a sitter two nights (Jay) he was fast asleep in his night clothes by the time we returned at 10.30 Thanks You Jay!!! Sorry I cant remember all your names but you were all wonderful and Noah loved you all.

Loved all the food, ate quite a lot at the Cove....Went horse riding with North Point, amazing, rode the horse while they swam. Bushman was brilliant.

Staff were all very friendly and were great with my little boy no matter how much mess he made at dinner. Michelle at the Cove was a sweetheart to him and always had time for him.

Kids pool is lovely and peaceful.

Only moans would be the beach, it is grubby and if you want shade you have to be up at 6am.

Also the hotel needs a shuttle to Rodney bay as taxis are expensive and if you need to get cash this is the only place.

I would go again as we all really enjoyed and were very sad to leave.

Smugglers cove is wonderful,

All I will say is the Caribbean is a little more standard and much more laid back then majority of the rest of the world.

You will not get the standard you get in Dubai, in the Caribbean.

But what you do get is

Fun
Lovely scenery
Great food
Lovely lovely people
Relaxation

Don't expect gold taps and chandeliers and you will have the best time,

Caribbean is the best

Smugglers cove is fine

We stayed at Smugglers Cove for 6 nights in a Garden View room. We purchased our trip from Living Social and believe it was a good deal for a moderate quality hotel. The scenery is incredible but the rooms, service, and food are of inconsistent quality. Our room had some nice updates such as granite countertops in the sink area but could have been been cleaner. The restaurants also could have been cleaner. The Trattoria was the best of all the options, with the best food and the best staff. The staff at The Cove was hit or miss - as was the food. Some days it was good, others not so much. The cleanliness at The Cove was questionable as well. The nightly entertainment was pretty tired - think 70's cruise ship style, although the dancers, fire eater, and limbo contest night were very entertaining. We also booked a catamaran tour through the staff at the hotel. We sailed on the Spirit of Carnaval. Most of the tour was nice except for the part where they left us in the water when we were snorkelling! That's right - the boat left without us. They were supposed to have sounded a horn when we were to come in. They did not do this. They also said they took a headcount but somehow missed that they left two people in the water. Friends we had made on the boat told them that two people were missing but the crew said they didn't see anyone in the water and they left! It was unbelievable! We had to flag down a water taxi to get us out of the water and take us to catch up with the boat! The tour company staff back at the hotel was very responsive but the mistake was pretty much sums up the entire experience at Smugglers Cove - a strong attempt to be a nicer resort but little attention to details that would make it better. One strong suggestion would be to do a better job during the manager's orientation to let guests know more about food between dining hours and to let people know about the dinner dress code ahead of time.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden or ocean view room. Order pizzas to go from the Trattoria for snacks by the pool b...

Lovely hotel and especially good value for money. Great food, rooms and service from friendly staff. Downsides were the beach which was quite stoney as you entered the water AND at the far end a waste pipe came out onto the beach ! Smelly !! Also, the 'entertainment' was a bit dated and corny! The 'fabulous' Wayne Jackson ( direct from Vegas !) was far from fabulous !)! A little local Caribbean music would have been very welcome on some nights. Also having spoken to several other guests, we were all in agreement that it was not nice to see a parrot alone in an aviary - he was usually frustrated and trying to gnaw his way out or would tip over his water and food bowls- typical signs of frustration. Definitely not an attraction for the guests !!
