“Wonderful Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Was really apprehensive about this hotel after reading all of the reviews, however we loved our stay here.

The grounds were in great condition and maintained, we couldn't fault any of the staff, all were very helpful and friendly. The food selection and cocktails were amazing!!! There was enough sun loungers around, even if you came out at midday you could still have your pick.

We had a basic room however it wasn't bad, it had everything we needed and was quite spacious. Loved they layout of the hotel.

Giving it 4 stars as I think there are still improvements, most of the exterior could do with a paint job, and there were a few cats running around the restaurants. Also whilst we were there, a lot of maintenance work was going on, so the pool bar was closed, and half of the beach was dug up...Although no big deal, it just had to be the week we were there. :(

Overall loved our stay here and would recommend. The resort's in a great location too. In regards to the maintenance work; when its finished this hotel will be perfect.

Few tips:

If you're like me ladies and wouldn't think about taking trainers to your beach holiday. Please do. The hotel does 3 organised walks a week showing you the sites local to the hotel, and as I had no trainers I couldn't go for safety reasons. Soo my friend and I done one on our own to pigeon island (it was doable, but I wish I had walking shoes).

Take a walk to Cap Maison beach, it's not even 5 minutes away and it's gorgeous.

Don't spend a fortune on US plug converters, we found our room was 3 pinned UK plugs and US.

For breakfast you must go to the omelette and pancake station; it's the best. Also make sure you have a BBC cocktail! (I really miss those)

Room Tip: We had room 444, it was right next to the pitons lounge and the vendors, no walk at all.

Dear Oogle90,

Thank you for choosing Smugglers Cove Resort & Spa for your recent stay in Saint Lucia and for sharing your experience with others on Trip Advisor. It is nice to read your recommendation of the hotel and the facilities within and the highlights of our location. We are delighted to know that you enjoyed your stay despite coming during the middle of our renovations. The swim up bar you saw being resurfaced is now complete and the beach which at that time would have had a trench in the middle of it is now covered in white sand and more beautiful than it has ever been.

Once again, thank you for your patience and as we continue to improve our slice of paradise. We are pleased that you enjoyed Saint Lucia and we are hoping to welcome you back soon.

Warm Regards,

We just returned from 8 days at Smugglers Cove. Overall we had a great time! We stayed in a garden view master suite and we were very happy with our room. We did have to call the front desk to fix the hot water but they fixed it as soon as we called. There were a few ants, but what can you expect when you are in the rainforest. We never waited in line for water sports and our son got to try everything he wanted. The instructors were very helpful and I was amazed that our son was able to knee board and almost got up on water ski's. The food and drinks were good, I would recommend making dinner reservations, we are very picky eaters and didnt have that much success at the buffet for dinners. Our first night there, the staff ordered us room service since all the restaurants were booked and we weren't able to find much to eat at The Cove. The staff was very friendly and helfpul, The italian place was great for lunch, most days we just ordered pizzas and ate by the pool or on the beach. Word to the wise, bring bug spray or buy some your first day so you dont get eaten alive. Adults beware of the suicide water slide, its fun but we all ended up with bruises from the last turn. The kids loved it though, and it wasnt too fast for them. The ride to the resort is long, and the roads are windy, its not too bad if you take a motion sickness pill before hand, we wouldnt have made it otherwise. Definetly do a day tour to the Pitons and the volcano, it was totally worth every penny. The morning walks were great too and we were able to hike Pigeon Island which was a must on our list. Our family met some great friends and we had a great time. St Lucia is a beautiful island and it was by far our best family vacation yet!

We booked this holiday before reading any reviews. Once I had read a few, I was a bit nervous about it. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by the mini bus driver who supplied everyone with a much needed bottle of cold water, a refreshment was supplied on arrival at the hotel. The hotel grounds were gorgeous and well looked after. Hotel is right on the beach, with plenty of sunbeds. Rooms were welcoming with fancy towels and flower petals, they were cleaned every day & fresh towels. I liked the idea of the individual chalets, you walk out of your door straight into the sun! We did have a problem with the air con but it was fixed immediately. There was plenty of choice of food at each meal in the buffet restaurant. There are also 3 a la carte restaurants which helps make it a bit special. The food in the Italian and the Waterfront were both lovely and good menu choice. We didn't get to try Cafe Asia. There was also a beach bbq at lunchtimes. The pools were kept clean, although there were plenty sunbeds around the various pools, it wasn't always easy to get a sun brolly. The Virgin rep Natacha was very friendly and knowledgable. The activity reps were great, very friendly and encouraged people to take part in activities. We had one day of heavy rain and they worked hard trying to keep people amused. They even put a dvd on and made popcorn! The nightly shows were very well done. Majority of the waiting staff were polite, friendly and attentive. Groundstaff, cleaning staff and security staff all friendly, security on site which made us feel safe. One negative was the sole computer on site. I needed to use it one day to contact home and it transpired that serveral people had been waiting for over an hour while one person was playing cards! Maybe there should be a list where you can put your name down so that the person using it knows others are waiting, and a time limit if it is busy? Not everyone has internet phones. Unfortunately due to the weather the water sports weren't available every day. However, when they were, the staff there were friendly and informative. A good variety of sports to choose from. I would recommend the Virgins Ahoy trip. Sail down the coast the the Pitons, visit Soufriere and the sulpher pools, then walk round the botanical gardens. Lunch on the boat then snorkling. I can also recommend the rum tasting tour, especially if you like rum! Our driver Stormin Norman was brilliant, he appeared to know everyone. After rum we went for lunch overlooking Marigot Bay, then accross the bay on a ferry for a relaxing rum punch. He also showed us the poorer side of the island. I would recommend the helicopter trip from Castries back to the main airport. It is approx £100 each but well worth it for the views and it only takes approx 20 mins. Overall a great resort and we would definitely go back, and, recommend it to others.

My husband and I, as well as the group of friends who came to help us celebrate our wedding, were blown away by this wonderful resort. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The staff is incredible... so friendly and awesome! The food and drinks were amazing--by far the best I've had at an all-inclusive! The entertainment is incredible--very talented singers, band, and dancers. Lorna, the wedding director, is so warm, friendly, and helpful. And the amount of water sports and activities that are included is so great. Literally, I have nothing but good things to say about this resort. I know that this review might seem a little unrealistically positive, but in all sincerity, that is how awesome our experience was :) I have to say that the website does not do the resort justice, particularly in the beauty of the wedding gazebo, or the immense, sprawling cove that is the resort's namesake... A huge, private, beautiful beach! Our group of 24 people would second this review, and I know we are all scheming about how we can get back there soon :) Thank you smuggler's cove for an amazing wedding and vacation experience!

Came here for 10 days for a holiday/wedding/honeymoon, and had the best time ever. Felt like we had been away for a month.

Hotel was set in an ideal location, and if you spun your sun lounged round you looked straight onto the beach, where you could sit for hours watching water sports and wildlife whilst soaking up some sun.

Lorna, our wedding co-ordinator took care of everything for us, leaving my husband and I stress free right up to the I do's. Nothing was too much trouble for her from organising the photographers to arranging a helicopter ride over the island straight after the wedding, even though they were not scheduled that day.

Food - every day there was a great selection, and with 4 restaurants the variety was brilliant.

Drink - never had to ask for you glass to be refilled, staff were always on hand.

People staying at the resort all mingled, and met lots of lovely people.

Entertainment - everynight there was a different show to keep you entertained, and when the weather was bad the staff improvised in the day and put on extra entertainment.

Security were always visible wherever you were, and made us feel very safe, and stopped and rasta from coming into the resort.

The spa was also very welcoming and professional, when I booked in for a make over the day before the wedding due to sunburn! The manageress did an amazing job.

This hotel with it's staff and service made my holiday/wedding/honeymoon the best 10days of my life!
