“Mattress springs dangerously protruding, worst nights sleep we've ever had”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2011

We booked to stay at Trowell Travelodge for two nights, but only stayed one night. We arrived late, after an exhausting drive and just wanted to get to bed. We were allocated our rooms, 113 (family room) and 117 (double). The rooms seemed fine upon entering, if not perhaps a 'little worn around the edges' even to Travelodge standards. The problems arose when we turned back the quilt to get into bed. The really thin sheet revealed lots of which stickers on the mattress and when laying on it we realised what they were - previous temporary fixes to matress springs sticking out! But the white stickers certainly did not cover all the rogue springs as we soon felt metal against flesh and bone with every turn. At this point I would like to point out that I weigh 9 stones, so I am hardly a heavy weight on a mattress and my husband is of average build and 12 stones. It was really late by this time, so spoke to our son in the other room and he said his mattress was no better. At this point we assumed all rooms would be the same and the only solution to try to get some sleep was to lay on top of the quilt (which softened the effect of mattress springs digging into our flesh), whilst having our clothes on covered in coats and towells for warmth.

After a very restless sleep, we packed up and left. On reception we spoke to the young man on order to explain why we would stay for our previously booked second night. The young man apologised for the poor state of mattress and added "we have 40 rooms, it would cost a lot to replaced all the mattresses". Quite frankly, if travelodge want to give their customers a 'good nights sleep' their first obligation would be for a comfy bed/mattress, would it not?

As already mentioned, the other room we had, occupied by our son, also had mattress spring problems, but unfortunately for him, he also had to contend with a generator or fan or something similar on the outside wall - it kept him awake until 4.00 am.

If you want a good nights sleep, do not stay at Travelodge Trowell.

Traffic noise all night. Very cheap accomodation and very basic. Next time i'll spend some more money and go elsewhere. NEVER AGAIN.

We managed to get a deal online for a room for £30, there were 3 of us travelling for a conference on friday/saturday so needed a place to crash, check in was quick and easy and included free car parking and the receptionist even gave us a spare duvet for my friend to wrap up in.

This hotel was basic but works well as just a place to put your head down for a few hours. The shower was easy to use and warm!

The room was very dated and was not as clean as I would have liked. I had a cold shower, because I did not realise that the shower lever had to be turned 360 degrees to get hot water! The towel rail was also disconnected.

There was only one bath towel in the room (and no bath mat) and although when asked for another bath towel, the hotel provided one, it later puzzlingly disappeared from the room again. When my boyfriend went to ask a second time for a bath towel, he was given two hand towels (as apparently there were no bath towels available).

The bed was so lumpy that my boyfriend ended up trying to sleep on the sofa and the pillow was very thin. The armchair looked stained so I did not sit on it. I could not find a hairdryer.

The room was hot and stuffy and there was noise from the service station carpark early in the morning. The TV reception was poor until my boyfriend fiddled with the aerial.

I hardly got any sleep and considered leaving for another hotel despite having already paid. I appreciate that the room rate is very low, but I still found the quality of the room worse than I expected. The only positive thing about the hotel was that the receptionists were helpful.

having been booked into this hotel for four days because of work in the nottingham area, i was appalled by this hotel,, and cant understand why it has not been closed down,, the rooms are dirty and the place had a smell, the beds are lumpy and the quilts are paper thin,,,,, the windows are dirty and i had to go and buy some sanitary wipes to clean the surfaces etc before i could put anything down on then,,, if i had the choice i would NEVER stay in this so called hotel... and i would advise others to avoid,

On the up side, it was spotlessly clean. On the down side, the towels were thin, the heated towel rail was disconnected ("for your safety") and there was just one small heater in the room. The duvet was very thin and there were no extra bedcovers - I was only just warm enough, wouldn't want to be there in winter! Everything looked tired and in need of a refurb. It doesn't look like it does in the advertisement!

We booked a room here for three nights because we were visiting family in Nottingham and they had a great offer (L19-49 a night). Other than the price the hotel doesn't have many qualities. the rooms are ok, but everything is old, run down and quite dirty to be honest.
