So what happens in most pubs or restaurants when a table is booked for 6 and only 2 of them are there 50 minutes later? Please don't try this yourselves - the staff may tire of it after a while - but it will help to explain why I describe the service as "excellent".
At the Millbrook 4 of the party were held up in dreadful traffic on the A38 ... and the 2 of us didn't have a mobile phone that worked in the village. In many pubs and restaurants we'd have felt uncomfortable or have been harassed, but in the Millbrook the staff were helpful and additionally phoned the unfortunates on the A38 on our behalf (which helped them estimate their likely arrival time, but that seemed an incidental).
That's one half of the experience - the other, the food and drink, was equally excellent. This being a Sunday lunchtime (OK - early afternoon) the slow roast British White beef was chosen by several and was agreed to be particularly good, the haddock and the mussels (sorry - we're in the South - moules) likewise. A starter of escargots should be avoided by those concerned about garlic breath a week later but I'd personally recommend it for any other occasion.
Oh, and they also dealt with food intolerances in their stride. A special word of thanks to the staff for their welcoming, smiling, ever-helpful approach to life. A great meal in a great location.
