“Excellent service, fantastic breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

We were relocated from Elements Boutique Resort, as they had problems with their guest rooms. So this Sunset Beach resort was not originally intended as our holiday in Koh Samui but we were so pleased we had the opportunity to stay in this resort.

Overall décor and design looked outdated, but clean and functional.
Room was spacious and clean, swimming pool was big (30m length), fantastic private beach (though the sea itself was not crystal clear to swim, the beach was lovely), great place to watch the Sunset, very polite and attending staffs. They even make the room twice a day!

We absolutely loved the breakfast buffet, which consisted of many fresh fruit juices, smoothie, lots of tropical fruit, homemade bread, homemade jams, and a lot. I am still missing them back home….

It is true that this is a remote area and no shops are around, but we preferred it for the quiet and relaxing holiday.

There was a nice local restaurant just 3 minutes away where we could see the beautiful sunset with drinks followed by dinner.
The restaurant at the hotel was rather expensive, tourist price.

The only small problem was that sometimes they did not understand English much, and some orders at the restaurant and breakfast got wrong. But it is just minor issue, in comparison to how they care for details.

We would like to come back if we have chance in future.

I am currently staying here..my last of seven nights. This hotel is lovely and it has the Thai charm and the Swiss perfectionism( even though you are definitely on "island time") We have a lovely beach villa complete with plunge pool/jacuzzi and separate " Thai Sala". Yes, the bathrooms are outside and I must say the BEST hot showers ever! There is nothing to do here but relax and to really unwind, especially if you came from The hustle and bustle of Bangkok. There are a few walking excursions...to local restaurants and the Intercontinental next door but not necessary . The Thai food is lovely ( we are Americans who lived in Bangkok for 8 years..in the past, so we can be quite the critic!) The Traditional Thai massage in the beach was terrific! The Thai staff will not disappoint you...their smiles , their soft and gentle nature are apparent all over this resort!
Again, I love it here but you must come prepared to relax..bring plenty of books, games, iPod, etc.
Will DEFINITELY come again!!! Thank you!

Room Tip: You must be able to appreciate the Thai people and the tropical nature of this resort. IT IS NOT a t...

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 3 weeks in January and had a fantastic time. We knew it was fairly isolated but that’s perfect for us. We emailed the hotel prior to arrival and request a high room- they were quick to respond. We had a Sunset Jacuzzi suite on the top floor (room 10) that gave breathtaking views of the sunset from the balcony. Rooms are large enough, cleaned twice a day and the bed comfortable; the toilet is though perhaps a little intimate especially when getting used to the Thai diet! Breakfast is good and available from 0630-1100hrs. Lunch menu is varied and I loved the Caesar Salad. We did find the prices quite high and sometimes the food in the evening was only lukewarm. There are other places to eat near the hotel which are cheaper (see reviews). Henrik the manager is very personable and makes himself known to the guests. All the staff work very hard and have wonderful smiles, I remember in particular Cha in the restaurant, the beautiful Palm, M and Jaew who do the breakfast, Muay and Amp on reception, and best smile was from Nek who helps with the gardens and keeps the sand in order on the beach. The beach was great and so stress free- no having to get up early to get a beach bed, as it is a small hotel, there were always plenty as people who stayed in the Garden or Beach Villas tended to come out later. Forget snorkelling though, as although the water looks clear it is quite cloudy/dusty and the fish are small and timid. We did a boat trip from the hotel to Koh Tan and this was only a bit better. The water though is so warm. The beach is nice to walk along or take one of the kayaks, row for about 20 minutes to the left past the pier, past the 5 Islands restaurant with their green flags on the beach, past the little fishing harbour and you will find deserted coves with the most beautiful sand and utmost privacy. Alternatively take one of the hotel bicycles and the 7/11 is only 15 minutes if you head left out of the hotel, if you go right you will come across a temple with a mummified monk- just leave a donation. We didn’t hire a moped, we saw plenty of skin injuries as a result of accidents, mostly white tourists who haven’t ridden before. The legal age in Thailand to ride is 14, but we saw younger riders and as many as 5 people on 1 moped. We both ride considerably bigger bikes in the UK but just couldn’t risk getting injured. The hotel does do a 100 baht shuttle to Lamai and Nathon, but you have to pay considerably more to get back. It is possible to hire a taxi for 500 baht an hour and do a tour of the whole island. There is free wifi and a computer for guest use. Happy hour for drinks was the same time as the sunset 1700-1830hrs, and the Spa was from 1000-1400hrs I would recommend reflexology and head massage which was good hour and 500 baht..

I’ve given the hotel 5 stars because the staff and service was exceptional and the experience was a great introduction to Thailand, its lovely people and laid back way of life. It was the perfect R and R that we needed from our stressful jobs. My only tips would be take plenty of mosquito spray and a high factor sun cream.

Room Tip: Top floor Sunset Jacuzzi was perfect.

This hotel's a bit far from Chaweng and the airport (about 1 hour driving for both) so it's a little bit secluded from touristy areas. However, if you're interested in privacy and just hanging out by the beach, it's pretty nice. There were 3 of us and we only paid for 2. The front desk lady was actually nice enough to upgrade us to a bigger room for free with an outdoor jacuzzi (since the room that we booked was not big enough for an extra bed). We tried on the extra bed that they had.. it was very hard and worn out enough that we could feel the spring so decided against getting it. So we decided to use lawnchair padding as an extra bed and they did not charge us for the extra person. There was always free fruit every time they cleaned our room.. and they sometimes cleaned our room 2x/day! The bathroom that we had was an outdoor bathroom so they were insects, geckos (there was one BIG one), and snails everywhere but i guess that's what you get when you want to be one with nature.. But other than that, the room was clean. Breakfast food was also delicious with a to-die-for smoothie! The swimming pool looked outdated and not as clean as other hotels that we've seen. The private beach was nice though.. the sand's not as soft as the one in Chaweng but they have this private pier that you can sit on and watch the sunset from. You can also hire their car and driver to drive you around the island for a pretty reasonable cost and there's unlimited supply of water in the car!

This small and pacefull resort (21 rooms only) is located in the Tailing Ngam beach. It is not an a luxory resort, but all the rooms in the main building have a jacuzzi. My superior room was big and very claen, and I had a wonderfull sunset view. The standard room are a little bit less spacious, but with the same amenities. You can also rent a villa, but the price will increase of 1.7 times. The resort has a big swiming pool and a direct access to a private beach. Breakfast is good. The restaurant is also good and offers both Thai and international foof and beach service as well. SPA services are also great.
Prices can be different along the year. I payed about 125 Euro for a double romm with breakfast for 2 people.
If you are looking for night life, this is not the right place for you as one of the main point of the hotel is the quite location area. On the same time, this is not a good resort for children. But if you are looking for very good services and a place where you can really rest, this is the perfect palce for you!

Of our holiday we were most looking forward to staying in our beach front villa at this resort. We arrived at the airport to be picked up and waited for an hour and a half (only waited so long because I saw a previous review that others had to wait). We finally called and were informed to get a taxi as they had lost our details. When we arrived they kindly offered not to charge us for the airport pick up, OBVIOUSLY. There was no apology gesture to make us feel more comfortable so we automatically felt unwelcome.
I had asked to book a tour for the half moon party while here and was told that we could pick the tickets (which included transfers) up and pay when we arrive. Upon arrival I was told that they had not organised the tickets as it would mean we would have to stay a night away which we were not even informed of to make the decision ourselves. This was a complete scam by the resort so that we would stay with them and pay them instead. We missed out on this experience because of this place.
Our room was set up nicely when we had arrived, it does look a bit aged in the rooms/flooring but it was nice. The bed is so hard, we had to ask for a mattress topper which barely helped and we couldn’t wait to leave (we had sore backs until we left, even with massages). There is a cheap restaurant about 100m down the beach which was nice to watch the sunset and have cheap cocktails that we do recommend called I-Taly I think.
We decided to go for a swim one afternoon and sat at the pool bar for about 15 minutes waiting to be served (at happy hour) until we decided to get out and go wait for another 5-10 on the other side. We finally saw staff and called out to them for some service. The room service was also disappointing. I had ordered a banana fritter and my partner a pineapple fritter, 1 out of 4 pieces on the plate with the ice-cream and waffles were actually banana and all the rest of ours were pineapple. When we called to have it fixed they bought 4 banana fritter on their own so I couldn’t even enjoy it with ice-cream like the original. I stubbornly went hungry.
I suggest to do your washing either before or after your stay here if you’re on a long holiday as they charge a fortune here. We got all our washing done when we were in town for the price it would have cost to wash a pair of shorts and a top at this place.
Driving to Chaweng costs about AUD $25 each way, this can be expensive if you want to explore for a few days.
The most enjoyable part of our stay here was watching the wedding on the beach from our Villa, the couple looked amazing and so happy.
I had paid for our bill/room the night before we were to check out so that upon check out we would only have to pay for the dinner that night. Well of course another headache. They had forgotten to take one of the slips from the room and wanted to charge us for more drinks and nibbles from the bar which I thought we had settled already, the receptionist who I had paid the night before understood my frustration and didn’t charge us the drinks only the nibbles, I would have paid what we had eaten however was very frustrated they couldn’t clean the room and take the slips properly.
To end our stay they staff had kindly given us a present which I was totally over this resort to actually appreciate their present.
Despite our horrible stay here the staff are very nice and greet you kindly which is the minimal expectation so at least they got that right. I suggest if you’re going to spend a lot of money on a decent place then don’t take a chance here, a total let down to our anniversary.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm really sad to read about what happened, and we have an explanation to most of the issues but that would not help you much now.
Our busiest season is soon coming to an end, and we will be back to normal which give as a chance addressing these issues quickly so as make sure this does not happen again.
Even so most of our guests where really happy with there stay at this period. Would you have come to me directly maybe we could have solved some of those problems, for you to have a pleasant and memorable stay. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
