“Boutique hotel on the quiet side of Koh Samui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Due to the location on the western coast of Koh Samui the Sunset Beach Resort offers a lovely and quiet beach (not crowded, no dogs, no beach sellers, no jet ski traffic) and beautiful romantic sunsets! The resort is rather small in size and constructed in a neat way. Nice pool area, cool tiny beach bar and a gym with a stunning view. We booked a sunset jacuzzi deluxe room and recommend to enquire for a room on the higher floor (for the view). The food in the restaurant is delicious - we enjoyed multiple Thai and Italian dishes. Furthermore there is a nice breakfast buffet with plenty of fruit, eggs in all styles, various breads / muesli, salads and the fluffiest pancakes ever tasted. More dining options are available at the Intercontinental Hotel next door while Chaweng is a +/-30 minute drive away / cost: approx. THB 600/way. The hotel staff are very very polite and always there to help, giving the resort kind of a family character.

Good to know:
(1) The "road" just passes behind the main building but there is only very little traffic as the road seems to be only used by the few hotels in the area. For us the two cars passing in the morning were not an issue at all and only noticed when we were already awake anyway. Yet if you are already bothered by the slightest sound, you may consider booking a garden/beach villa.
(2) The choice of TV channels is rather limited. DVDs are being provided by the hotel. If you do travel with kids bring some of their favorite DVDs - and a book (or two) for yourself.
(3) Happy hour for massages: 10am to 2pm - in the lovely Spa or at the beachfront - pre-book a day in advance.
(4) Happy hour for drinks: 5pm to 6.30pm - a "must do" in combination with the sunset.

To sum it up: it is a (small) quiet place, with a touch of romance and style, offering good quality food and with lovely staff. A peaceful place to relax, chill and simply enjoy your holiday with your partner/family.

We did enjoy staying at sunset beach resort. Found it a little quirkier than expected. Room was fine, probably expected a bit more comfort for the price, the pool was really nice as well as the whole area around it including the pool bar. It's close to the jungle so there's lots of mozzies. The beach wasn't amazing really, but it's facing perfectly for sunset. Recommend the 5 islands down the road for some food, the vegetarian combo was great. We rented a car but somehow there was a driver to pick us up at the airport. We weren't charged for it, and got the pleasure of following him to the hotel which is about 30 km. Apparently it was because we put our flight number on the booking form, though I thought it was part of the required info so not sure about that. Anyway, we liked it here, and you will like the pool.

Room Tip: looks like the villas rock the party

Stayed here with 20 of our family and friends for our wedding in may for 5 nights. The resort is beautiful and as soon as you arrive you feel like you are in a 5 star resort. We all stayed in the cheapest rooms which were very modern and had all the luxuries needed. For our wedding night we booked a beach front villa which was like heaven! and could not fault a thing with it, it was beautiful and amazing. If you can splash out for 1 night I would recommend getting this villa. Look at the website images and you will see what i mean, private pool, garden, lounge, outdoor bathroom..etc.. just divine! - The resort pool is large and the beach is beautiful with clear blue turqoise water. The staff are the friendliest staff I have seen in Thailand and would always help you with any requests. The most amazing breakfast on our trip also! Plus the bonus of free water everywhere...Definitely a resort for honeymooners (there were a few there when we stayed) or if you are having a wedding in Thailand I can recommend this resort and beach for it... We will be back for our anniversary some time in the near future! Thanks for the best memories!

Please note that this hotel is a 3-star hotel, and not a 4-star.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights. The location is about 45 mins- 1hr away from the airport, also it is far away from the nightlife and other beaches. Must rent a car or scooter to see the rest of the island and go shopping/eating. The beach is very rocky and dirty from floating garbage. The location next door is a vacant piece of land which has become a local dumpster. The pool is a good size but not ideal for children, as there is no shallow part.

Very quiet hotel, best for couples, not for families.

Overall good hotel room, very clean and beautiful views. Restaurant makes really good food, breakfast buffet has a wide selection, above average.

The main problem with this hotel is the management and their billing. They offer to pick up from the airport, but don't mention that it will cost you $30 in the email. We noticed the $30 pick up charge when we checked out and double checked the bill, they just added it on. I spoke to the manager and mentioned that the day before their staff mentioned that the pick up was free, but the return would be $30. I confronted him with this and he just said...pay it, or else find your own way to the airport. Terrible service, completely out of line. Its not about paying for an airport pick up, but it was the deceiving nature of hiding the charge and then the poor management of handling the situation that makes you leave with a bitter taste in your mouth and it ruins a rather okay experience.

Summary; good rooms, good food and reasonably priced, poorly maintained, rocky beach, sub par service, remote location.

If you are looking to stay at a romantic hotel in a more secluded area...go to the Baan hotel next door. They truly outperform this hotel in quality, service, beach area, pool area.

What immediately attracks one to this beach resort is the natural, laid back and friendly attitude of the staff! This is in contrast to other high-calibre resorts, where staff seem almost robotic. I was privileged to see a glimpse of this. The scene, 7:30 am.on the beach, after a night storm. All 25 of the staff (including the cook, assistant manager, spa people, etc.!) cleaning the beach together, enjoying each other, smiling, almost playful. They were almost making a game out of it!
This was my introduction to Sunset Beach Resort and Spa. We were upgraded to a Garden Villa...cute with its own small outdoor area. Restuarant above average. Spa just ok. Beach experience, spectacular, as was the sunset.
We booked a "sunset jacuzzi deluxe" but came to find out that this was only a single room in a large building, so on-line bookers take care! This is probably not what you want...our villa, as most other units, DO NOT have a sunset view (you must pay much more for this)....but the beach is only a 30 sec walk.
I was bothered by the generator sounds powering the outdoor jacuzzi and pool and longed for silence. I got this on the beach.
All in all, a positive experience. Be prepared to live with the small cute animals and a different ambience.

Room Tip: Go for a villa, but know only the most expensive ones have the sunset view. There are basic small ro...

We have visited several times during our times in Samui and never been dissapointed. The hotel is peaceful, secluded and very relaxing. Lunch around the pool is fabulous and the staff are first class. You need transport because there is nothing nearby but it is in a lovely part of the island where you can see the real beauty of Thailand. A short drive away you will find various small restaurants and if you want a wild Sunday brunch then pop along to Nikki Beach, which is about 15 mins away. We will definitively visit again when we are in Samui next year.

Found this hotel on tripadvisor and it was all that it promised to be!!
the views, and the beach here are just spectacular, it's a really quiet part of koh samui, on the opposite side of the island from where all the partrying is but if you're looking for the perfect blue seas this is the spot. Also the hotel spa is nice, the pool is lovely and the in-room dining we ordered is soooo good...the thai food that is!
The rooms themselves are gorgeous, with ofcourse views u just cant get enough of, the beds are comfortable and the balcony is really nice to relax in. The hotel staff is very polite and helpful but english can be a problem at times.
We spent a day and evenoing in chaweng and that was enough partying and exploring for me and my husband. ANother plus is that this hotel is really close to the ferry point from where the day trips to the islands start.
If you are looking to relax and romance this is a great spot, if you want crazy nights of partying, stay in chaweng

Room Tip: the garden villas dont have any views...either the sunset view rooms or the beach villas
