Stayed here for 4 nights on IHG Reward nights in January.
The IC Samui is a beautiful property, with hotel rooms & villas throughout a large piece of land/clifs. The landscaping itself is beautiful and well maintained and you can explore it either by foot or buggy.
Check-in went very smooth with a lovely welcome from the Front Desk (IC calls them Butlers) Meow and assistant manager Juan who both informed us of all the things at the property.
As an IC Ambassador, no upgrade was given as this was a reward night stay. Although in line with the Terms of the Ambassador program (for me another reason to stop paying my membership when it expires this year) - most other IC properties actually do provide an upgrade - so this was a bit of a disappointment. However, in all fairness, the standard rooms are lovely, with an amazing view and nice decor. Rainfall shower could do with a bit more pressure though - but that's just a minor thing.
The location of the hotel is great - as it's away from the busy/crowded tourist places, we rented a car, so we were able to drive around Koh Samui a bit, just be prepared if you have no car you will be stuck in the resort - which does not have to be a bad thing! Don't come here if you wan't to party every night - but if you are looking to relax this must be one of the best spots on the Island - even if it would be just for the sunsets!
The food in the hotel is good, but I was honestly expecting a bit more considering the prices. The grill (meat & seafood) at Flames was good - but some things were lacking - for example the Bearnaise sauce basically tasted like pure butter and did not even have tarragon in it. The Thai food we tried at Amber was beautifully presented - but found the flavor lacking a bit (and definitely not spicy enough, even though I asked for 'Thai spicy' - and not tourist spicy). Don't get me wrong, all the food was good - but for such prices you expect more than good. The service at both restaurants was outstanding though - very friendly and not too stiff.
There is a small restaurant on the right (facing the beach) - I Talay Nasai, which has nice authentic Thai dishes for a fraction of the price at the IC, which is good if you want to try some other food/place out, as the IC 'only' has two restaurants.
In terms of activities, the hotel has a small but very good gym with new/moderm equipment and a nice view on the pier, kayaking and other water activities, a clean private beach, etc - so enough to spend a couple of days for sure. The infinity pool has nice views, but small - I found the other main pool (near the beach) a bit basic/disappointing for a 5* property; small and crowded. Thankfully there was a lovely ocean right in front of us :)
It was a nice touch of the hotel's GM Mr. Duchenne to invite the guests for a cocktail and a quick chat; in general the hotel is outstanding in the relationship with its guests, I must have gotten a total of 2 welcome calls, 3 welcome letters and two assistant managers greeting me (is there a thing as too much?) - so well done to them.
Also a special compliment to our 'butler' Meow - she was so welcoming and very helpful in arranging some issues I had with the airline - she is a great asset to the hotel, so my compliments to her.
The value for money of the Intercontinental is really good (maybe F&B aside) - there are maybe nicer properties at Samui, but they are easily double or triple the price - so I think the Intercontinental has an excellent price/quality ratio. Some minor negative points aside, I think it's an amazing property, with great views, rooms and specifically great staff - and I'd love to come back again.

Thank you so much for writing this great review on the InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort, a “Great property, rooms & views” is surely one of the nice compliments for us!
I am glad to hear that our associates delivered what they train and practice. Your kind words have been shared with the entire team, especially Juan and Meow.
The standard, Ocean View Rooms, lavishes you with space at 67 square meters. Room is characterized by modern Thai décor and colonial touches. White paneled doors open out onto spacious balconies, where a large daybed and dining area provide the perfect place for you to sit back and soak up the spectacular ocean views. The bathroom includes a double vanity, separate bathtub and shower.
At InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort guests can relax at not one, but seven unique swimming pools. Our main infinity pool, situated by the Air Bar, was actually the very first infinity pool on Koh Samui when it was first built in 1993. It offers spectacular 360-degree views across the island, the coconut plantations and the Gulf of Thailand below. Our second infinity pool, located by the beach, offers the perfect space for those who enjoy proximity to the sea. It also offers a separate, shallower, kids’ pool for our younger guests. The remaining five pools are located in different areas around the resort, each one themed according to different colours of the sky during the course of the day and night.
I take note of your feedback regarding the rainfall shower and the resort culinary. The Amber restaurant is one of resort highlights by gain the Thailand’s Best Restaurant 2013 award from Thailand Tatler.
It was a true pleasure having you here and we look forward to your next visit in the not too distant future.
