“What a honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

Booked as part of our honeymoon trip around Thailand. Perfect! South of the island location which is a little out of the way if you want to party but perfect for us.
We booked a honeymoon package which included spa treatments, dinner on the beach ,an island tour and a snorkling trip.

Room was well laid out and my wife loved the special decoration they made for us. Room pool was very welcome as it was quite hot there

Everything was super smooth and well enjoyed and actually it was quite a lot to fit into a five night stay, but fortunatly we managed to extend a couple of nights. I must admit im not really a spa kind of bloke but it was well worth the experience and we both tried to get booked in whenever possible fpr the rest of our stay.

Breakfast was great and set me up well and the beers in the bamboo cafe were always cold. A very enjoyable way to enjoy the beach for a late afternoon refresher.

Fitness club is well presented and a nice addition to the resort. Too many time ive seen resorts with small little gyms and broken equipment, not the case here.

Overall our stay was fantastic, with time to relax and step back yet enough activities to make the holiday actually quite active. We'll be back for sure next Summer!

Room Tip: Our garden villa was 302 seemed to have bigger pools than soem of the others

I booked this resort for three nights as part of the last leg of our honeymoon. We arrived at the Koh Samui airport at about 5:30 pm. Prior to that, at about 1:00 pm, I confirmed with the hotel that their car would pick us up from the airport. Unfortunately, there was no car at the airport. Apparently, there was a mixup at the resort.

They told me by phone that a car could meet us at the airport in one hour. We weren't going to stand in the heat for an hour, so we decided to take a taxi, which cost 1200 baht (plus tip) rather than the 1000 baht (plus tip) the resort's car would have cost. All the other shortcomings and disappointments could have been forgotten if they had discounted the cost of the return trip to the airport (another 1000 baht) to offset the fact that they forgot to pick us up in the first place. We asked for a measly 200 baht discount, the difference between their car (which never showed up) and the taxi. We were told no. I think any resort would have given a free ride to the airport...we only asked for a 200 baht discount, which amounts to about $6.50 US. They refused.

There are quite few positives about the resort. The room was beautiful; the grounds are very nice, although a little worn in places. My wife and I had a spa day, and it was amazing. It was quite possibly the most relaxing three hours of my life. The ladies that work there went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy.

Unfortunately, we experienced quite a few negatives, even after being left at the airport. The housekeeping staff is not top notch. We walked out of room and found a used condom at the top of the stairs, and it was there for quite some time until we informed the front desk. They leave a random amount of towels in your room, and they do not restock the mini bar...or even the "free" water. When my wife went to the front desk to ask for more water, they told her go to the restaurant to get it herself...where they charged her 100 baht for free water. The staff at the front desk was too preoccupied with a litter of kittens they discovered to help my wife get some water. Quite disappointing and quite rude.

In addition, some sort of animals were in the walls of our room scratching all night. We ran out of hot water. There were regularly no towels at the pool, and service at the restaurant was not good. We actually received the coffee we ordered with breakfast one out of three times. It's a very secluded resort, which we didn't mind. But that forces guests to eat at the resort restaurants. You would think that would result in better service. It did not.

I also believe their beach setup could be better. The chairs are not arranged in any sort of order, and there are random kayaks on the beach. Only later did I learn that they were free for use by guests. We kayaked around to another resort for lunch one day, which was nice. There were also stand-up paddle boards laying on the ground near the resort, but I'm still unsure if I could have used those.

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, it falls short in a lot of areas.

We stayed here for two nights, room wasn't ready on arrival but the manager was kind enough to show us round whilst we waited. The beach is nice, the hotel is nice, rooms are great but you are very restricted because there is nothing nearby.
We ate the first night at the hotel and spent over £100 without any wine or drinks! The food is mega expensive and not really worth it. I would happily pay the money IF the surroundings were great, food was amazing and service even better. This was not the case, previously we had eaten at the Cliff Bar&Grill in Lamai which was much much nicer and cheaper! We wanted to have the BBQ at the hotel on the 2nd night but because it had rained they moved this to the restaurant which was full. We agreed to eat at the bar but again we were disappointed with the food.

The other disappointment was the room was made up fantastically when we arrived, however on the second day no effort was made, it was like someone had quickly wiped the place down and left. Nothing was arranged nicely or tidied up.

However if you want somewhere to relax in a peaceful environment and you don't care about spending loads on average food then this is the place for you. Also the spa is great and the treatments are well worth the money! The sand on the beach has been imported which does make it look and feel lovely.

We had heard a lot about the resort through the site. However, our experience ended in a nightmarish experience. We were originally checked in for 2 nights. On the second day itself we requested the front desk for an extension, to which the person (Mae) at the front desk agreed and mentioned we could "continue to stay in the same room." This was after she spoke to another colleague over the telephone in our presence. Now what she understood, and communicated to the person is unknown to us. On the last (extended) day of our stay at the resort we went on a day long excursion to Ang Thong Marine National Park. On our return late evening, we were greeted by James (manager) informing us that all our luggage had been packed and kept in the common area as they had no room available. We were horrified.... Nobody from the hotel had bothered to establish contact with us all through the day. Our phones were working at most places, we even had email access. He double checked with his staff, who obviously had an internal confusion, since one of the members (Mariska) had assumed we had originally booked only for one night and were asking for a second night extension. However, the fact was that we already had an original 2 night booking and were extending to the third. Despite this the manager was insistent that they "were not in the wrong at all". His attitude was such that when I mentioned that I would obviously be reviewing this on the sites through which I heard about the property - he said "don't forget to mention that you spoke to James." I can't understand someone in the hospitality industry speaking in this sarcastic manner. Their internal systems are obviously not well connected. Their own front desk did the day long tour booking for us. We even had a spa reservation with them for that evening. And the front desk does not even have a room for us. All in all - it was a first time experience for us despite having travelled extensively around the world. As a compensation for the trouble, the hotel did drive us to our next destination for free. But that was as far as they were willing to go. I've written to Stephen, the owner of the hotel, who's promised to get back after checking through it. Besides the above experience, the hotel is too far away from it all..... I can understand being a hideaway.... but this one's too hidden. We probably had different expectations. The water at the beach looked very uninviting. For us the Choeng Mon area was the perfect mix providing privacy and activity. And the beach at Choeng Mon is better than any other we saw.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, as you promised. There are always two view points to a story though i do believe it is best to approach it along the pathway of a guest is correct.

I wil correct some details, however i will start as i did in my email to you by apologising for James in his verbal response to you. I do know why but it does not make it correct.

I presume you liked the resort as you talked to reception on your second day of staying(not first) though i can see you were not happy with location there are a few in this area, COnrad ,cocout villas, Intercontiental etc

Having reviewed the reception video(as i told you i would) I can confirm you spoke to Mai and asked if the room was available, she stated she wasnt sure and would check with Mariska. She did this(by phone)Mariska made no assumptions and stated the fact correctly. She said yes there is a room available for another night. The conversation then came to an end.

Now this is where there is a misunderstanding, Mai has taken this as an enquiry(which we get daily about extensions) and you have taken it as a booking. The room of course sold an hour later by internet and we were sold out as a consequence.

The next morning we knew you were going on boat trip .It is quite common for guests to take trips on last days and to leave bags packed in rooms.

We went to your room to find you bags packed except for toothpaste etc. I was contacted at this time and told. "We have a guest who has today gone on a trip to Marine park, and has spa treatments later. We think maybe either they are taking evening flight(another common thing) or there has been misunderstanding as we remember they asked for extension and it isnt normal that they didnt mention they had left bags in room. The bags were packed but what do we do as the new guest will arrive early evening?" I said to wait till last possible moment before preparing the room and to make every effort to contact guest.

In actuality the resort tried to call you on the hotel mobile phone we provided AND we phoned blue star boat, but with no result so it is incorrect to say we made no effort. Email wasnt considered but with the way tech is changing that should have been tried as well

Our staff knew there was a possibility of misunderstanding and immeadiatly made a booking at the resort near us, just in case!

Now our stories differ here. When you arrived the discussion did not go quite as you stated and there were apologies from the start about the situation. James also informed you we had found alternative accommodation but you rejected it.

You asked about compensation. As there was no financial loss nor any harm to you(we had found accommodation within 200 metres) this was not taken into consideration.

You also claimed to have spoken to Mai AND Mariska and that you had confirmed with them. James at the time double checked by phone and of course Mariska said you hadnt spoken to her(which you hadn't). At this point you said they were lying to cover there XXXXX. James defended his staff whereas maybe he should have let this go and understood you were upset over the situation . He then stated we are not in the wrong at all and repeated it again during the conversation.

In hind sight he knows this was wrong Again he shouldnt have inflamed the situation and I apologise about the lack of empathy, he told me he was also quite upset at the mention of reviews(i wont go into detail as i know you are aware ). Again he should have understood you were upset over this misunderstanding . At least as you mention we provided transport to your next resort which would have normally been 1200 baht as it is on the furthest part of the island.

As i informed you by email this was a misunderstanding pure and simple, it shouldnt have happened but it did. I apologise for this confusion , on reviewing the video it is not clear whether you wish to extend or not. Our staff should have checked though. As i said it does not excuse how the situation was handled and i have and do truly apologise for this.

And i am happy you at least enjoyed the rest of your stay on Samui

I don't know where to start! It has been over 2 weeks and I can't help but talk nonstop about how great of stay we had at Elements. We couldn't have been happier. We got picked up by their driver at the Koh Samui airport w/ drinks. We arrived, got a wonderful tour of the place and went straight to the beach bar for their happy hour. The private beach was great! Always quiet and beautiful! We ate at the beach restaurant the first night and it was amazing food! We LOVED the sea bass! The room that we had was spacious and decorated beautifully! We loved how they decorated the rooms w/ flowers from the trees and plants on the resort. We loved the shower and how every afternoon when we would disappear to go zip line, kayak tour, or safari tour our room was straightened up and always smelling great. Every single person you encounter at Elements always greets you w/ a big smile and is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinners at the Fai restaurant as well. We enjoyed our romantic dinner they set up in our room so much. They used such fresh ingredients, we absolutely loved it. We enjoyed two massages at the Serenity Spa. We HIGHLY recommend the hot stone massage. It was the best massage of my life. Those two hours just flew past! ;) We loved the location of the resort, being far enough away from the crowds, but not too far away for us to feel confident enough to jump on a motor bike that we rented from Elements and go exploring the island by ourselves. We always felt safe and it was always quite even though they were very busy for the holiday season. The front staff was very helpful the entire week with answering our many questions, granting our requests, having taxi's arrive for us when needed, (which by the way the taxi they set us up w/ the first nite, we continued to use the same driver our entire week there because she was so friendly and drove extra careful), and just making us feel welcomed. Stephen knows his stuff and had a bunch of advice for us on what to do with our days. We really appreciated all the great advice. Our last night there was very bittersweet. We attended the beach BBQ and are so glad we did! Talk about one hell of a set up. It was absolutely beautiful with candle light dinner and the best buffet of amazing food. We ate until we were stuffed and then enjoyed the fire spinners. Some talented, very nice kids that we actually followed the rest of the night to their next event of fire spinning. Bottom line, we absolutely LOVED Elements and its employees. It was the best stay we had in Thailand and I have to make it back there soon. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on Koh Samui, that's for sure. I only have one request for Elements, will you please hire me? I'll gladly drop everything here in the states to become part of your staff! :)

We were surprised at how bustling the little island of Koh Samui was. We were so thankful that the resort was located in a quiet, less touristy part of the island -- yet it still is close enough to all the action and activities. We found that we were content with all the resort offered though. We were able to go kayaking and snorkeling with the gear we borrowed from the resort. The pool was lovely, and we often relaxed by it with one of the many smoothies the restaurant offered. There were two restaurants to choose from, in addition to room service, yet we were pleased to borrow the resort's bikes to go to the nearest village for some local cuisine. The Thai night and Beach night were memorable. The yoga class offered on the beach for free every day added a lovely element to the trip (Thanks, Mareska!) as well. The Spa onsite was delightful and the gals that work there really are professionals. The prices are more expensive for Thailand but are reasonable compared to those where we are from. The staff was very helpful and tried to facilitate every activity we mentioned. Every day was satisfying, and we are thankful our belated Honeymoon turned out so well.

Ah, the end of our Thailand trip could not have been any better. We arrived at night and had a car, which was a bit tough as the hotel is quite hidden. We were greeted with a delicious drink and taken to our two bedroom beachfront villa. Wow! Our reaction to the place was priceless. Two awesome rooms, a cool wash waterfall bath, an incredible living room separate from the rooms, and an infinity pool that oversaw the beach and ocean. Again, WOW! We were two couples and it was simply perfect.

The food, Friday night BBQ, and service was superb. Free kayaks and bikes for us to use as we please was a great perk.

The location is about 20 minutes away from Lamai and 30 from Chaweng, which are the two places you'll want to visit at least once. Koh Samui is also a 15 minute boat ride from Koh Phangan. If you are around during a full moon, go check out the party on Koh Phangan - it's epic.

We would highly recommend this hotel if you get a beach villa. Can't speak for other rooms ;)

Get a car and experience driving on the island, but be careful.
