“Athena Villa - Your own luxury villa abroad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

My family of 4 women spent one amazing week in the comfortable Athena Villa 1 (with full sea view) last week of May 2013. We booked the villa and a rental car through thehotel.gr who gave us excellent service. After arrival Chania airport in Akrotiri, we picked up the car, and then after a 15 minutes drive, we arrived the Divine Villas where we were welcomed by the manager Argiro. She is a lovely girl who gave us all information we wanted and came by every day for a nice chat. We felt so taken care of, and she also arranged a visit of Gianna who came to the villa and made pedicure, manicure for us all. She did an excellent job, and later the same summer when I went for second time to Chania with other friends, she came for the same purpose.

I have read some of the positive reviews, and I can only agree about the Divine Villas. The Danish family Herstal, who owns the property, has decorated the 4 Athena Villas and 4 Poseidon Villas with elegant and modern products such as textiles, lamps and other interior. Argiro told they change it continuously. Very nice! During our stay I also got the chance to see all the villas, and I must admit that I liked the Athena Villas 1 and 2 best, most because they are closest to the sea with stunning view. Athena Villa 2 and 3 are on the second road. Behind them again you find the Poseidon Villas side by side along the small villa road.
The villa itself has 3 floors with 4 bed rooms, all with separate bath and television in every room. The master bed room on the third floor has access directly to the top terrace while the 3 others are on the ground floor with access to the terrace/parking area. The beds were comfortable. On the second floor there is a huge living room with a separate dining table and a well equipped kitchen. The villa also had wifi, dish washer and washing machine! We therefore filled up the fridge from the grocery market (10 min. from the villa) and also had one evening inviting friends to join us for dinner. Sunset Taverna near by delivered lovely home cooked Greek dishes for the occasion. Great evening on the amazing and huge terrace with sofa to chill on, tables, chairs plus sun bed around the pool. The cleaning was also excellent. I don’t use my time to look for negative things, and for us this villa was perfect. The only thing was two days with unusual strong wind, which we were told were not normal (warm wind from Africa).

I have been many time to Crete, and I just love the spring (from end May and June) because the temperature is still comfortable. The greenery and flowers are so lovely and it is not many tourists yet. When you stay in Tersanas a 20 min. drive from Chania, you must like to stay in a quiet area. There are of course everything you need there; nice beaches (incl. famous Stavros Beach) and some taverns spread around, but it is necessary to have a car. Then you have all the opportunities to explore this wonderful island: all the small villages as Plakias and Paleochora on the south coast, Samaria Gorge, the Venetian port of Chania, Rethymnon, Kalives, Almyrida and many other lovely places.

Argiro, thanks for your lovely hospitality and hope to soon have another holiday in Athena Villa and of course see you again.

We stayed in Athena 1 with 8 friends and never wanted to leave! I've seriously never vacationed in such luxury. We had a private chef come on the last night and it was delicious. Actually, all the food was amazing. The French Lady Restaurant on Stavros beach was one of our absolute favourites. We ate there two nights in a row and spent the day at the beach there. There's also a fantastic restaurant at blue beach with the most romantic windmill.

In addition, there's an amazing secluded little beach below the villa with the bluest water I've ever seen. We were planning on renting a sailboat one day from Chania and realized they would have taken us straight to the beach below our villa! So we were obviously doing something right!

Just a heads up, Chania is only a 20 minute drive away, but the roads are pretty hairy. So we only made it over there a couple of nights and had to designate a driver for the evening. Actually the roads on most of the island can get pretty scary. So we preferred to stay in our little area of luxury. I've done the vacations where you go go go and see everything in the guidebook. And you can definitely still do that from this location with a bit of a drive. But this villa and vacation for us was more of a luxurious week on the beach, eating amazing food, and enjoying our friends. And it couldn't have been more perfect.

We went early september, which was a lot less crowded because I guess schools are back in session, but still amazingly hot.

Stayed in Athena 1. Spacious, clean and well appointed. Everything you could need is there including a secluded beach just a short walk down the road. The staff was excellent as well as the private chef. Hands down the best looking villas on the island. Don't miss the French Lady Restaurant near Stavros beach.

We stayed at poseidon villa (no. 3 ) which had an amasing view, the villa is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The design is sophisticated, and each and every piece of equipment is top quality. The place is run by women, and you can see that they really thought of every smallest detail! The pool is big. Everything is perfectly clean! Rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, the manager is very very friendly and helpful. We liked the place a lot on the pictures, but in reality it' s even more amazing! We couldnt stop saying WOW from the moment we entered the villa, and kept it this way till the moment we left. BTW also the recommendations for the places to eat and for the beaches brought us to the best "secret" places around. In one word - just PERFECT !! Can't wait for our next stay at the Divine Villas

We stayed in one of the Athena villas - the view was absolutely stunning. The pool is large and very clean. The villa is equipped with everything you need - and if you need anything else then just ask Argiro (the manager) - she is the best!

There are a lot of small local tavernas close by and Chania is only 20 min. by car.

It is impossible to find even one negative thing to say about this place - except:

- Every holiday you spend there will be over too soon!
- Any other hotel/villa you will ever stay in will be compared to this one - and nothing can be as good as Divine Villas :-)

All of the modern amenities in this remote, quiet part of western Crete. Manager of the property was very friendly and professional. Would return the in a heartbeat. A/C, pool, wifi, showers, kitchen ... all worked 100%. Waking up here was fantastic and nights with full moon astonishing.

My family of 7 adults and 2 babies spent a week at the Divine Villas and we all found it an excellent choice for a group of friends or a family.

The villa consists of 3 bedrooms at the lower floor, 1 larger bedroom (called master bedroom) at the top floor, which is more independant than the first 3 rooms and has the best views. All rooms have "en suite" bathrooms with toilets. There is a spacious kitchen+ living room, a large terrace connecting directly to the swimming pool that can also be accessed from the lower floor rooms. You could have lunch/dinner Inside or outside.

The villa is part of a group of 6 almost identical villas. There is enough space between them to ensure relative privacy. We were not disturb by any noise. It is really worth paying the small premium to have a sea front villa, with nothin between the villa and the fabulous sea in front.

The pool was clean and in perfect condition, with no chlorine smell. It was warm enough for the adults to swim in May though not heated. The terrace around the pool had enough space and lounging area for all. Maybe it would lack shade at the height of the summer with only 2 parasols (a 3rd one is near the outside dining table).

The kitchen is nicely furnished and has all the Equipment you could wish for, so did the rest of the villa. It was decorated with taste.Eveything was in working order. It had A/C in all rooms as well as flat TV screens.

The friendly, local manager was ready to receive us even as we arrived late in the night and always prompt to intervene if we had any question or need.

The villa is outside of the small village of Tersanas. It takes a good 20 to 30 minutes to drive to Chania center off season, and about the same to reach the national road. This can be a negative point if you plan to do a lot of excursions outside of the area, as you loose an hour round trip just to be on your way out of the peninisula. In the nearby village(s), there is a local supermarket with most products and fresh produces as well as bread. A 10 min extra drive will take you to a larger chain supermarket. You can order local delivery, a chef, massages (Worth the money)...

We found the nearby beach in STavros (approx 5 min drive) to our taste as it was well protected from the Wind, with clean sand and waters and a nice restaurant (Mama's place).

A couple of negative points (minor to our taste) :
- slow and erratic internet
- no protection/alarm for the pool and 3 levels of stairs : be careful if you have young children
- a bit difficult to find the first time if you don't have a GPS and you arrive at night
- can be windy

Overall an excellent choice if you need a 3 - 4 bedroom villa and plan to stay local.
