“Hit and Miss”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

Most of the previous reviews of the pub and food are very good and some acclaim is probably deserved but it certainly could be improved. The Reception from the bar staff was very welcoming and a good selection of beer was available. i did not witness any problems with the locals as identified in a previous review and they seemed a friendly bunch with dogs in tow. We booked in for Sunday lunch and on the whole this was good pub food. The crab and coriander fishcakes lacked crab and seasoning, the beef looked and tasted like a pre-prepared slice but the rest of the meals that we were served were good honest pub food.
The staff were largely efficient in serving the meal although one of the male staff did beat his female colleagues in having a humour by-pass but the overall value of the occasion and meal was good. I would probably want to record a'good' rating but trip advisor takes you from average to very good and it didn't quite make the latter. If you are in the area, been for a walk and need some liquid and solid refreshment do not worry; If you want high quality food then you will need to drive further. I stress that I did not stay here.

Had a wonderful meal here on New Years Eve while staying in the village, then back again for family lunch the next day, can't say too many positives about this place, lovely food, great menu, friendly atmosphere and friendly locals too, we had a marvellous time, thanks very much, will be back if we are in the area again for sure. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us next time but happily it's always dry and warm in the pub!

This is a great village Pub no over charging on food or beer, Friday night I had the Chicken with Tarragon sauce it was nice maybe a tad heavy on the Tarragon, but still good. On the Saturday night I had a fabulous steak cooked (medium rare) to perfection, on the Friday night even asked for 2 Yorkshire puddings with jam and milk for dessert and Ian the boss duly obliged. The beer hand pulled was very fairly priced at £3.00 a pint far cheaper than my own town where it is £3.40 for similar beers. The bedroom was a double which was a good size the bathroom spacious and the shower very good once I figured it out, flat screen TV and enough cupboards and wardrobe space to suit everyone.
The bar is frequented by locals who I find are very friendly if you make the effort to speak to them, the bar staff even remembered me from 7 months previous. All in all a great break in a lovely Village I will be back.

Unlike some pubs in the area the Miners Arms allows a single night stay over weekends, this alone is a great start!
The pub is welcoming, the room was clean and tidy, the evening meal was good value and the breakfast outstanding - overall a very successful stay. Eyam is steeped in history and the walk we took in the afternoon, although not for people unable to manage hills, was outstandingly beautiful.
We will definitely revisit to stay again in the New Year.

Room Tip: All of the rooms would be about the same, if you want one with a bath advise the owners.

I very much enjoyed my one night stay here; really friendly, welcoming staff and a good, local atmosphere. My room was warm and comfortable. The evening menu looked good and next time, I will make sure I arrive earlier. The breakfast was top quality and set me up for the long day ahead. I will definitely stay here again.

Poor service full of locals at the weekend. I would rather this pub be more friendly towards tourists and the locals not stare at you as soon as you walk in to their side of the bar. Poor ale selection and lacks atmosphere. The Greene King landlord isn't friendly. Eyam is lacking a decent pub.

Had an evening meal here whilst staying in a cottage nearby. Very friendly staff, very accomodating towards childrens portions and choices. My husband loved his steak and ale pie which had very amounts of meat. Wonderful puddings. Very enjoyable meal.
