Friday night about 7pm, I decided to go away in our tourer, looking specifically for hard standing, electric, water and waste pitches, as a member of the Land Rover caravanning and camping club we visit sites all over the country and I'm always looking for new sites for the club. I came across Beaconsfield Holiday Park, website looked good and had an online booking facility. I only wanted one night on Saturday, so I booked it through the website and entered my card details, I received an email to say I would receive confirmation of our booking within 24 hours, obviously we wanted to leave early in the morning less than 24 hours, as the rugby lions were on sky and we wanted too watch it at 12 noon in a pub somewhere. Saturday morning, still no confirmation, so I gave the park a call, a gentleman answered, telling me I couldn't expect a confirmation by email as it Saturday, but to come over and he would squeeze us on? We drove down the lane to the park, no sign posts until we were upon the park, so after a bit of careful reversing, we turned into the long single track lane, we arrived at 11am, approached the barrier where we were greeted by a grey haired lady walking up to the barrier shouting "you haven't got any kids have you?" Now as I knew this was a Adults only site, there really was no need to be so rude and shout this at us. Also, Apparently they don't accept arrivals until 1pm and we had seriously put them out, it wasnt usually allowed, but we could go on in early for £5 extra, which was fine, £2 deposit for the shower key and £23 for the pitch and a dog. We also booked our sunday lunch at he Bothy on their site for 1.30pm on sunday. The lady also told me that as were members of the ccclub, we couldnt be pitched by the lake - didnt really understand that either, but hey we were here, clearly a nuisance to them, so i took what i was given, she booked us in and showed us to our pitch. The pitch was tidy, hardstanding, with water and waste. The lady went on to say that she hadn't given me my CC membership discount of £2 and that she would pop it down later, I wasn't that worried, it was hardly going to bankrupt us. The site was so quiet, nobody under the age of 60, a couple of mobility scoters bombing around and old people walking dogs or sat reading, not a smile among any of them, So we went to the red lion in Shrewsbury to watch the Rugby. We had a lovey day off the site, we returned back to silence again, no sign of life anywhere, just the noise of the nearby traffic on the busy A road. I wasn't even comfortable sitting outside, as I felt the curtain twitchers and the CCTV unbearable. Sunday we went to the Bothy for lunch, arrived at 1.30pm, booked in at the bar and we were directed to sit on two dining chairs placed opposite the bar with our menu and placed our order while sat on the main thoroughfare from the dining area to the kitchen, with busy waitresses rushing past with dirty plates and serving meals, we sat here with a drink until we were invited to seat at our table, 25 minutes later. Finally at 2.15pm, our food arrived, thankfully this food was beautiful, it was well worth the wait and maybe explained how they had so many people on this site, certainly wasn't because of a warm welcome and a friendly face! We left the site a 4.30, we had been allowed a discretionary late departure because we had had Sunday lunch at their establishment. Otherwise a late check out would have been an extra £5. I went to reception on leaving to return the shower key, there was a elderly scruffy grey haired man, possibly the caretaker behind the reception, I handed my key over and he pushed £2 in change towards me on the counter, I explained the £2 discount the lady had mentioned she owed me yesterday, the man looked puzzled, I explained it was a camping and caravanning club discount for being member like the lady had told me the day before, he said "were nothing to do with that club... " Confused I asked him why then there was a box to enter the membership number on the booking in form ?? "Oh" he said, "you need to bring a voucher to get that discount" I know this was only £2, but his whole attitude towards me really wasn't customer friendly, so after an exchange of words I left this dead soulless site and him to his £2, he clearly needed it more than me. We won't be going back, because we have a happy fun filled life and were not waiting for god to take us just yet.
