“Charming Agriturismo with Top Cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011 via mobile

An italian Agriturismo is normally a Country B&B with very simple but genuine homemade food. Sometimes they'll have animals, sometimes a simple orchard so that you can enjoy fresh fruits and veggies. La Capuccina is on a different level. The rooms are very pretty in natural shades of beige, green and plum, design is minimal yet quite chic and they all look over the beautiful vineyards. There are animals and also an orchard where Owner and Chef Gianluca will pick all the fresh ingredients for your breakfast and dinner.
Him and his wife are truly kind people and their presence is always discreet and helpful. Breakfast starts al fresco with a pot of fresh coffee and home made biscuits, cakes and plenty of freshly squeezed fruit juices. If you are visiting Piedmont this place is an excellent base to stay while travelling around and unwind in the evening. When we stayed there we were particularly impressed with the quality and presentation of dinner. You cannot choose, Gianluca will simply serve a three course dinner and you are guaranteed to be fully satisfied. Fresh flavours, creative combinations and amazing food. You can also book your dinner there even if you are not a guest of the Agriturismo. Definitely worth the trip!

We have enjoyed several visits to La Capuccina (travelling from London) and have always enjoyed a wonderful experience. Gianluca and Rafaela are very warm and kind hosts. The setting is fantastic and extremely comfortable - you quickly relax in this environment.

A bonus is the exceptional restaurant with amazing food, wine and friendly service.

The location is excellent - close to Milan Malpensa airport, Lake Orta, Varallo and the mountains of Alagna. While the area has much to offer it is often easier to leave the car keys in the room and remain at La Capuccina relaxing by the lovely pool with a glass of vino. I cant wait for my next visit.

Travel & Leisure just gave La Capuccina a rave review for budget accommodations (Best of the Lakes Region), so when we wanted to visit that area, we had to give it a try, and boy are we glad we did! La Capuccina is a beautiful "Agritursmo" working farm and hotel, run by a lovely husband and wife team, Gianluca and Raffaella. Luca was in the textile business, but realized his heart was with his family and the slow food movement, not his long working hours, so he chucked his corporate job and spend years lovingly restoring a family farm 10 minutes from Lake Orta and 15 minutes from Lake Maggiore. The result is a perfect combination of working farm and contemporary hotel set in the country but so close to everything you could want in an Italian country vacation. Virtually ALL of the food you will eat at there comes from the farm. For breakfast every morning, you get treated to fresh cheese, delicious hand made salami, fresh baked goods, just picked fruits, fresh squeezed orange juice, cereals, yogurts, and great coffee. And, each morning you breakfast is completely DIFFERENT - so if you stay there for a few days, you'll never get bored. You eat breakfast on the terrace under an enormous wisteria overhang, and feel like an Italian count. Rafaella and Luca are the perfect hosts, who are extremely helpful in pointing you in the right direction for your day on the lakes, and tell you about great local restaurants to sample.

You really feel like you are staying at someone's home - one morning I was sitting in their cozy outdoor living room prior to breakfast reading the paper, and Rafaella surprised me with a steaming pot of espresso. It's those little gestures that make all the difference.

A perfect place to bring kids . . we really enjoyed visiting the barn where you can pet enormous black cows, goats, ducks and chickens. The extensive vegetable garden is also a sigh to be seen. Each day as I returned from my morning walk, I witnessed one of the farm hands picking the blueberries to be used in the dessert for the evening's dinner guests. Speaking of dinner, if you are lucky enough to be at La Capuccina on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, you must treat yourself to their 7 course dinner for 33 EU. Do yourself a favor, tell them to take the home-baked bread away, because not only is each course more delicious than the next, the portions are huge, and if you fill up on bread you will just be sorry! Luca taught himself how to cook, and he uses all of the fresh ingredients from the farm to create a masterful meal. In addition, his wine collection is almost exclusively of local vintage, and he only charges what you would pay if you bought the bottle directly from the vintner, to encourage diners to sample the local wines. I've visited Italy 4 times and stayed in many wonderful places, and I wouldn't hesitate to return to La Capuccina!

We are importers of Italian food products who travel in Italy often. When we want a place to forget about business and unwind, we love the Cappucina. The owners, Gianluca and Raffaella, are perfect hosts, and he is an amazing chef. Almost everything he prepares originates on their farm. Early in the morning they milk the goats so you can have the freshest of fresh ricotta with your dinner. The milk for your morning cappuccino comes from their cows. His risotto is totally amazing (this is the heart of Italy's best rice growing region), and when you get to his homemade ice cream he will come around with a copper pot and ladle yummy zabaione all over it. The accommodations are in modern, clean rooms furnished simply. The new pool, which opened this year, is a knockout. The dining room is warm in a very country way. The area around here is the colline navorese – the hills above Novara. It is a relatively less known area with beautiful rolling hills, abundant wineries with stunning Nebiolo based wines, and fun towns to explore like Novara & Borgonamero. It is a perfect location for people who love bike riding or hiking. A big bonus: it is about an hour to Malpensa, making it a great alternative for a stay before flying home.
