“Lovely views and amazing nachos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

We go here quite often for the views and the really nice Sunday carvery. Its family friendly (and dog friendly) and the sun deck is lovely. If you are visiting you really need to try the nachos - they are the best :-)

The outside eating area is just perfect on a fine summer's day. The environment is spotless and the bar and serving staff very polite, friendly and efficient. We had cod and chips off the menu which was lovely and lots of it! Would recommend this place to couples, families or to those dining on their own.

Room Tip: If you like fresh seafood go for the seafood salad. It looks divine!

The pier house came well recommended by friends, such a beautiful setting and had a gorgeous view looking over the sea and Lundy could be seen too. Polite and friendly staff, my friend and I order chilli nachos to share, simply delicious, I was hoping to have a dessert but the nachos were very filling! So I opted for a cappuccino instead.

The pier house has transformed for the better as I remember it when it was the Elizabethan and was quite a tired looking establishment but can honestly say that the Braddicks have worked wonders in making the pier house a very desirable place to eat, when I am next up in North Devon I will pop in again.

This used to be a very run down dive, called The Elizabethan. The location is fabulous, overlooking Westward Ho! beach and out to Lundy Island. Recently there has been an addition to the outside seating, making two levels of glass windbreak areas to admire the view...on a good day. The inside has also been extended and commands views over the sea. Prices tend to reflect the location, which is fine on a one off basis, but as we are local we may be a bit blase about the view. We have eaten there on quite a few occasions, and the food has always been well cooked and nicely presented. We tend to take family and others that miraculously turn up to visit us in the summer months. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Sunday roast is very popular, booking advised.
As I said before, prices tend to reflect tourist locations...and Westward Ho! is a tourist location. Traffic ingress can be a bit dodgy at busy times. There is only one road in and out, and due to the small car park people park on the road and there is only one car width, patience required and forethought. We park some distance away and walk to the restaurant, saves all that swearing and gesticulating...thats just from me.

The food was average. I had fish pie which was quite watery and the carrots gritty (yes, I know they come from the ground but I would expect them to be be clean!). The bar and waiting staff were good. Three girls at the table next to us asked for separate bills and this wasn't a problem to the waitress. The maitre d' was brilliant - I'd definitely want him running my restaurant. The view was fantastic.

We came here as said it accepted dogs the views were amazing from the upstairs decking area, however ordering lunch presentation 10/10 shame about the taste the brown bread was slightly stale. We returned several times but stuck to coffees. This is an amazing place with the most panoramic views.

After being recommended the Pier at Westward Ho we arrived and asked if it was okay to order food. The bar man said yes and gave us menus. After sorting out a 8 month year old baby and a 2 year old child we finally decided on what we wanted. At this point a waiter came over and took our menus and when we looked in disbelief he said 'you weren't hoping to order food were you' he then said his boss had just then (12.30) decided not to take any food orders and no further explanation was given. Like the rest of the unhappy customers we left without any form of apology and had a great meal in the westward arms. It would have probably been great food but we never had the opportunity to try.
