“Loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

I absolutely loved the hotel. It was comfortable, well-organised and we lacked for nothing.
Everything seems very exotic, the atmosphere is nice and friendly. If you like snorkelling or scuba-diving – you are in heaven. On the other hand, if lying on the beach is not quite your thing, you might be bored after a few days.
I can recommend it for beach freaks – otherwise, you might look for something different.

The bungalows here are very charming. Ours had a kitchenette, a double bed and a twin bed. We were in # 6 which I would not recommend due to the close proximity to the restaurant. Our bungalow did not have a/c, which was fine. The ocean breeze and the fan made the room very comfortable. Our room was clean, and the water was hot!

This hotel is very basic so if you are looking for resort amenities, this is not the place for you!

We loved the location and tranquility of this hotel. The nightly sunsets are amazing and everyone staying at the hotel wanders out to watch. The intimacy of the hotel was great! The size is perfect. Mostly couples, some young families, some retired couples. Mostly everyone was European, a couple from Australia, and we were the only ones from the US.

Mosquitos were terrible, but oh well. That is what insect repellant is for!

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel! Location, beach, snorkeling, restaurant, and staff were all wonderful. Thanks for a great experience!!

The layout of the bungalows meant that most had fairly private porches to sit on and we had a view of the water. One excellent point is that there is a tap at both doors to wash your feet. the kitchen was basic with hot plates only but we managed. the pizza in the restaurant was excellent. there is a small supermarket very close which had some rather good products, such as cold cooked pork for sandwiches. Went on one of the "swimming with sharks and rays" tours which was good, and had some very good snorkelling and a good lunch as well. The bed wasn't great but was ok. the pool was pleasant

Room Tip: detached rooms set out in a v shape with some in the middle adjoining each other. Go for the detach...

Dark and dirty rooms. Loads of huge lizzards in the room doing their business over all uncovered items. Moskitonet is filthy and needs replacement. Service is very poor. Toilet smelled really bad. Personell is not too enthusiastic.

Overall I cannot recommend this place and would choose a different location next time.

After coming from the Tuamoutus, Moorea seemed almost 'over civilised'.... Bit of a 'culture shock'! But infact, Hibiscus is situated in a lovely park, with nicely constructed bungalows. Proper shower, large bedroom, ours opened out onto a view of the lagoon. Little galley kitchen with 2 rings and a fridge. Outside in Haapiti is another story. You need to walk along the side of the road, which is badly kept to get to the local shops.

For shopping - go early in the day to be sure to have a good choice of fruit and veg etc. You can find most things there to make your supper and for European b'fasts etc

The owner is about as friendly as a barracuda - none of that Polynesian hospitality for this french woman. Her daughter is a little better. However, if you manage to get 'Gaelle' (later in the day when we were there). She can tell you everything there is to do. Hire you a car, sort out trips, make any phone calls you may need.
WIFI is a paying HOTSPOT that only works if you are in the lounge (Reception and lounge close at 18h, close for lunch etc). Pool is very small. Sun loungers are tired, plastic with no cushions. Area nearby is laking in view.
Everything is payant - Kayak etc etc Beach has a beautiful view, but small. (see pics)
Resto by the beach has, like outside on the road, the most gaudy neon sign :-(
Service can be slow, but the pizzas are worth waiting for. RESERVE your table for the evening

Over the past 12 years We have traveled extensively throughout French Polynesia. There is 1 spot that we have returned to time after time, The Hibiscus hotel in Moorea. First and foremost is the hospitably and thoughtfulness of the ownership and staff. The bungalows are perfect for romance / and or/ family vacation. Really more than a vacation, it’s an opportunity to “Live” in Tahiti when you are at the Hibiscus. It feels like home . The park-like grounds are stunning and host an amazing array of botanicals, the Sunset restaurant has the best food in all of Moorea. The chef will also make special adaptations upon request!
Everyone working at The Hibiscus will make sure any request you have during your stay are taken care of. Tours, sightseeing, transportation, diving and anything else you might want for, they will take care of EVERYTHNG for you.
This has been my experience over the years and I will continue to return and stay at the Hibiscus.
If you are looking for a true down to earth, affordable, over the top beautiful experience…The hibiscus hotel is the perfect place to call home in French Polynesia!!!

Tahiti Mae

Room Tip: I personally request lagoon View!
