“Beautiful location, friendly staff, great beach... can't ask for much more.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Really the only negative thing about our stay here was that the weather could have been better but since there's nothing the staff or management of the Hilton can do about that, I won't hold it against them! ;-)

Everything about our stay on Mo'orea and at the Hilton was smooth and easy; from pickup at the airport, checking in, booking activities, making dinner reservations, and getting back to the airport.

The snorkeling right off the beach was good (not the best, but good). We took one of the "Safari" tours of the island which was very good. We rented bikes from the activity desk and biked into Maharepa which was also a good time.

The location of the resort is nice, pretty much right in the middle of Opunohu and Cook's bay and a nice half-hour to hour bike ride from Maharepa where you can stop in at the Supermarche for any auxiliary supplies to supplement your stay.

Yes, prices at the resort are pretty high, but in fact prices all over French Polynesia are pretty high and the breakfast buffet (which we paid for ahead of time) was a great deal (no one particularly cares if you make yourself a sandwich and grab a piece of fruit to take back to your bungalow for lunch as long as you don't overdo it). Even the one dinner we had there had large enough portions that you could easily split an entree and then the cost becomes much more reasonable. The bar had happy hours too which usually meant a 2-for-1 deal. Combined with supplies bought in Maharepa, you can do this without blowing out your budget on food and drinks!

There are some nice restaurants nearby. We ate one night at the Mo'orea Beach Cafe (I have a separate review for that) and enjoyed it..

All in all, I would stay there again and would recommend the Hilton to friends.

Room Tip: Our trip included both Mo'orea and Bora Bora. We booked the over-water bungalow in Bora Bora wh...

My wife and I stayed here for 10 days/9 nights on our honeymoon. Normally we are the ones that like to bounce around during our vacations but we realized after the wedding we would probably want to settle down and stay at one place which worked out perfectly for us at this hotel.

When we arrived we were greeted and offered something to drink. We were checked in within 10 minutes but had to wait for our room to become available, no issues here since we arrived at the resort at 9 am. The resort is very nice and all the staff we talked to were very pleasant and helpful. It is pretty amazing all the sea life you get to see here, There are a bunch of fish hanging out in the coral, sting rays swimming by and reef sharks which we only saw these at night.

We originally planned to stay over-water for 5 nights and the remaining in the garden. After the 3rd night we realized that we did not want to move inland and went up to the concierge desk and upgraded to stay the remaining 4 nights over-water, thankfully there was rooms still available.

Food

ARII VAHINE: We only ate at the main restaurant one time for dinner and that was for the Tahitian show. We loved the show but the food was mediocre at best. They tried to give so many options that the quality of the food was the problem. The cold breakfast was very good and I recommend getting that unless you really need the hot food. The jams and jellies they provided were pretty amazing.

ROTUI BAR & GRILL: The beach side restaurant was good and everyday they have a special drink and menu item. We usually shared the menu item and filled up on the drinks. Nice place to have lunch if you do not want to go away from the resort.

TOATEA BAR: We ate several times at the crepe bar that is located out in the over-water bungalow area, definitely worth a visit but I know the chef we had is no longer there. They do feed the reef sharks at night and usually saw 5-6 every night hanging out.

If you don't rent a car there are several ways to get to the resort. Car transfer, Private car transfer, and Bus and of those 3 I would suggest either 1 or 2 since 3 is not all that reliable since the timing of the buses are not like clock work. We took a private car transfer to get to the hotel and car transfer back to the ferry, which turned out to be a private transfer since we were leaving on an "off-day" and saved some money.

One last thing is bring a few bottles of whatever you want to drink (legally speaking no more than 2 litres per person for duty-free, but please double check), we brought a few bottles of vodka and mixed it with some of the local juices. Definitely nice to have in the room if you want to just lounge around in your bungalow watching the time go by.

Room Tip: Leave the lights on under your bungalow and when you get back from dinner you will see lots of fish...

From the moment we arrived we knew this would be special. The setting is remarkable. The staff was attentive and helpful. Our overwater bungalow was perfect. We spent a week here relaxing, swimming and participating in everything the island has to offer. The breakfast buffet had a wide range of food from cereal and homemade bread and rolls to an omelet station . The selection was large and steadily replenished. I ate dinner at the hotel two nights. The first night they had the show. I had seafood which was very good. The show was fun and when they danced with fire , it was exciting. The other nights we were picked up at the hotel by the resturants where we had made reservations. Fabulous food with French influences.my favorite part about staying at the Hilton was the breathtaking ocean. Wading in to the warm calm water to snorkel anytime during the day was heavenly. . I saw more beautiful fish right off the beach and bungalow than I have seen scuba diving.. The lagoon is safe for everyone of any age just watch out for the coral. There are kayaks and paddle boards available free of charge. I had a facial one rainy afternoon. The facial was excellent and I have had many. The spa itself is small and spartan. They did serve delicious tea and a brownie at the end of your service. There are no robes just a thin sarong .

Room Tip: I know they are pricey but so is your whole trip. I would stay in an over water bungalow if possible...

We stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon. The island and the water are absolutely stunning and the hotel's gardens were beautiful. The room (deluxe garden villa) was fine but not luxurious. The quality of the food and the service in the restaurants really let this hotel down.

We recently spent two nights at the Hilton Moorea Resort. It was the first leg of our French Polynesia vacation. We had planned a few activities on the island but ended up spending the entire time within the resort. Upon arriving at the Moorea airport we were greeted by a driver sent by the Hilton who drove us to the resort which is about 20 minutes from the airport. Check-in was personalized with explanation of the hotel amenities. We were offered cold juice at the start of the check-in process but we never got them. Otherwise the check-in was very pleasant. We were offered an upgrade to an overwater room for a fee. The upgrade fee was about $200 per night which we thought would be better spent in the spa, but in hindsight, it is a fair price to pay for the upgrade. They also offer an upgrade to a lagoon room which is also over the water but with the front door exiting to the beach instead of the overwater walkways. This upgrade was about half the price of the overwater room and also offered direct access to the water from the room. The room we were given was a garden room with a pool. The room has a large bathroom and patio with a small plunge pool. We asked to be located away from the main road and did not hear any car noise but as others have noted, the roosters begin their morning alarm at about 4:30am. I used earplugs and was not bothered by it. The hotel is bordered on two sides by private residences with chickens in their yards which is where the bird noise comes from. I think that only the overwater rooms would be immune to this noise. The other drawback of the garden room is that it shares a common wall with another room and the connecting door is not soundproof allowing conversation from the other room to be heard. The room, however, does have a very powerful air conditioner which kept the room very comfortable despite the hot, humid temperatures of the late summer. Compared to the Bora Bora Hilton, the Moorea Hilton could be considered small but not cramped. The pool and common areas are well designed and did not feel crowded.

The hotel has two restaurants and a beachside bar. The main restaurant is where breakfast is served. I was impressed with the offerings of the breakfast buffet. Eggs benedict is one of the standard offerings and you can also order eggs anyway you like from the omelet station. It also offers a table dedicated to homemade jams made from the exotic fruits found on the island. They were very interesting to try and were delicious. We had dinner in the main restaurant the first night we were there which was a Polynesian show and buffet. This dinner show is offered on certain nights of the week and is about $100 per person. The food was very good with excellent variety, most of which was locally produced seafood. The show was entertaining although we were seated away from the main dining room and did not have an ideal view. If you plan to go to this dinner show, be sure to arrive early for a better seat. On our second night, we had dinner at the crepe bar located on the overwater walkway. At first we were not sure we would have a satisfying diner consisting of crepes but we were very pleasantly surprised by the crepes we ordered. This is a must-try restaurant, not only for the food but for the tableside shark viewing. The water underneath the restaurant is light up and food in thrown in the water to attract the sharks to come feed. There were at least 10 sharks swimming in the area around our table and was an awesome sight.

We had a couple massage during our stay which was enjoyable but definitely not one of the more memorable massages I have had. The masseuse seemed to be sucking on a hard candy during the entire massage which was rather distracting. At the end of the massage the masseuses walked out of the room without announcing that the massage was over but returned to tell us after we had stood up and were undressed. I believe these may have been new masseuses who were still getting used to the procedures which is why I think I was given a discount when it came time to settle the bill.

The hotel gives two complementary bottles of water per room per day which was highly appreciated and very useful given the hot weather. I do not know if this was one of my diamond HHonors amenities or if it is given to all guests but the Bora Bora Hilton only offered complementary water on the first day which I feel is not in line with the standards of other high end resorts. Overall, this is a very nice resort with a cozy, boutique type feel to it. The staff is almost all local and has a lot to share about their island home. It is a different kind of resort from the resorts on Bora Bora which are located on private motus and comparisons of its geography are a bit unfair. The resorts on Bora Bora are built with an emphasis on lagoon activities while I think Moorea hotels are built with an emphasis on island exploration. I enjoyed my stay and look forward to coming back someday.

Room Tip: A lagoon bungalow gives you direct access to the water like the overwater bungalows but do not cost...

We had a fantastic experience at this property. The staff was kind, professional, and very helpful. Our bungalow was gorgeous. We couldn't believe our eyes when we walked in. Super relaxing environment and of course it doesn't get much more romantic.

Shockingly there were a good handfull of kids....we weren't really expecting to see kids at one of the most romantic places on the planet...(just a FYI for those who think you won't see any families)

The crepe' bar -- awesome. Got a nutella crepe that was to die for, totally delicious. Oh and if you like crepes you can get one everyday for breakfast too!!

We went off property a few nights for dinner and did a ATV excursion...so not sure how the system works but transportation is provided for you. Just keep in mind that if someone else is going to the same place as you at the same time they will be sharing the vehicle with you. There was a person who was late for 3 times -2 dinners and 1 excursion. The rest of us had to wait each time!!! the icing on the cake was when they strolled up to the van with a cocktail after we had been waiting over 15 minutes. SO inconsiderate.... so if you want to do your own thing and not have to wait for other people see about arranging your own transportation...

All in all fabulous experience and to date the most beautiful tropical location we have ever visited.

We recently stayed at the Moorea Hilton as part of our honeymoon in French Polynesia. The resort was beautiful. The pool and beach were never crowded and very well maintained. We stayed in an OWB which provided a perfect platform to snorkel off. My husband snorkeled every day and saw a variety of sea life including octopus, seahorses, eels, and lots of fish.
The food is overpriced and mediocre. We followed the advice of previous posts and brought along protein bars to snack on as well as some small alcohol bottles to mix our own drinks in our room. I would strongly suggest doing this.
We rented the bikes from the resort to see more of the island. They were single speed but adequate.
Overall, we were very happy with our visit. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were glad we made the stop for 4 nights prior to Bora Bora.
