During my 10-day tour of French Polynesia I spent 2 days on Moorea at the Hilton with family. Breathtaking is the only word to describe this place! The service, like everywhere else on these islands is impeccable. The most amicable, simple and courteous people I have ever encountered.

We had a bungalow on stilts over the bay, very stylish with a Polynesian flare: wooden floors and furniture from the islands, woven straw on the ceiling, beautiful bathroom, and soooo clean! The floor has a glass window so you can watch the fish, including man-friendly sharks, which come to be fed at night when the lights are turned on.

We enjoyed the restaurants and the creperie which is also on stilts and watched the shark feeding.
Unfortunately, this Hilton, as well as the Bora Bora Hilton, does not serve or propose enough Polynesian cuisine. Most of the food is either Chinese, American or Continental. We would have liked to sample the local food. In order to do this we had to eat at local restaurants, which is good for them if you have the time.

During the day we rented a car from Avis, though quite expensive ($200.00) for 5 hours use, it was worth it, since we were travelling with 2 small children, which required auto seats which they provided. I highly recommend taking the time to visit. No need for a guide, the island is small and there is only one road to go around, therefore impossible to get lost. We went up the highest mountain. The view of the 2 bays is magnificent.

Our only mishap was in the hot tub. Some tiles were broken and my son got a piece in his heel. He was taken care of immediately by the pool staff and mended. But we feel that the hotel management should have made some sort of gesture toward us, as it is done everywhere else. The tub was immediately closed for repair.

Of the 2 Hiltons, Moorea is without a doubt my favourite and, not surprising, that of the Polynesians also.

We stayed at the King Panoramic Overwater Bungalow and it was perfect. It had great views of both the mountains and the ocean and it was amazing waking up to the views at sunrise and knowing it wasn't just a dream. This was our honeymoon trip and we also received complimentary champagne and a box of delicious macaroons from the hotel!

The TopDive centre at Hilton was just a small shop. The main one is at Intercontinental Hotel and dive boats will leave from there. If you are doing the ocean dives, there is free pickup from Hilton at 7:40am. We thought that the hotel compounds, lagoons, beaches and views at the Hilton were far better in comparison with the Intercontinental.

The breakfast at Hilton was standard polynesian hotel buffet fare. We felt the dinner was much more impressive. Don't miss out on the Moorea Shrimps Duo, Sautéed and Ravioli.

This was truly the trip of a lifetime. Will definitely want to come back.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton from June 5th-11th( 6 nights) as part of our 16 day honeymoon in the French Polynesian Islands. First, I’d like to condone and praise how great this island is and highly recommend that anyone who travels to his part of the world spend time on this beautiful, unique island.
The accommodations were amazing. We booked an overwater bungalow and were fortunate enough to stay in one that was quite far out on the lagoon (number 83) The bungalow had a nice glass floor which allowed us to view all the sea life which lived in the water including rays, 100’s of tropical fish, reef sharks and octopuses. I started each morning by jumping into the beautiful blue-green water. We spent hours snorkelling and feeding the sea life. A good tip is to bring a baguette from breakfast as the fish LOVE bread and you’ll literally have 100’s on your back porch waiting for a bite.
The service was stellar. All smiles and going above and beyond to assist in our every need. The food was fairly good. We had breakfast included in our package which was helpful as meals are very pricey. I would rate the food in Moorea as B+ which is quite good for non- North American or European cuisine. We elected to explore restaurants off the resort for most dinners. There are plenty to choose from. Most will send a transportation to pick you up and then drop you off.
There are many activities to complete at the resort including snorkelling, sea doo rentals, paddle boarding, a gym, bike rentals and other sea related excursions. We rented a car with another couple and explored the island one day. This was a cool idea as we got to explore this exotic location and drive into the mountains and see stunning views of the island and water.
The cost is substantial to stay in the over water bungalow but as I like to say we didn’t come all the way to the French Polynesian islands for a haircut! I truly feel we got our monies worth and felt like we were treated like royalty by the staff. The water/lagoons/mountains of Moorea are some of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen in my life. I’m glad I took 1000’s of pictures to remember this trip by! My wife and I hope to return for our 10 year anniversary. I hope you’ll enjoy The Hilton Moorea as much as we did.

Room Tip: Ask for a bungalow in the 80's, eat off the resort, snorkle daily and bring booze from off the r...

Just left this resort and it was everything we hoped for. As a family of four (two lads, latish teens), we took two overwater bungalows. As with most of the island, the shore is protected by a coral reef so water is shallow for about half a mile out and crystal clear which makes for great snorkelling with an abundance of sea life. Prices are pretty expensive as with the island generally but that would be our only quibble. The restaurants are ok but we felt a need to get away from the resort in the evenings and Rudy's and Mahogany restaurants were excellent. Hotel concierge service only too pleased to book for you and complimentary return transport provided by both restaurants. We did the organised boat trip from the hotel which took in whale/dolphin watching, swimming with the rays and black tip reef sharks just off the small island of Motu before landing at Motu which is only a few hundred yards from the main shore. A great experience though we didn't take up the optional picnic on Motu. We even got to see a hump back whale and her calf - awesome sight. A long trip from England via LA but well, well worth it. It must be the closest place to paradise you'll ever see except for the real thing!

We stayed at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa from 8/7/13-8/10/13. We stayed in a panoramic overwater bungalow for a price of 253000XPF (over USD$800/night)

Directly before the trip we stayed at the Four Seasons Bora Bora, which definitely brought out the very stark contrasts between the two hotels.

I'll start with the good. The bungalow was nice with what appeared to be a recently remodeled bathroom, nice sunbathing deck, comfortable bed. It was impossible to get all the light out of the room however, so it was hard to sleep past 7am in the morning -- due in part to ill fitting blinds and a glass floor near the coffee table (to see the coral below). The bathroom opened to the bedroom but there was a very poorly designed privacy screen that can put down to separate the two rooms (although you could actually see through it!). This was fine for us as a couple, but made it hard to go into the bathroom in the morning without waking up my fiancee.

Now for the bad.

Firstly, the food was awful and very expensive. For brunch, at USD$40/person (and not included in the room rate inexplicably), you get fruit that tastes like it was from a can, stale bread, lukewarm yogurt, american cold cereal and a heated items which were lukewarm or empty. We spent over USD$80/person on a polynesian dance show where the dinner buffet was again awful. We arrived 15 minutes after the start of the buffet (which we were told was A OK) but that meant that by the time we got to the buffet, almost all of the quality food was good. Almost no sashimi and sushi rolls left, no beef, etc. The quality of the food was pretty awful. The pasta we got at the pasta station was undercooked and definitely not homemade, and drenched in a weird mixture of cooking oil and watery pesto. I could go on but I really don't want. As a positive, the polynesian dance show was entertaining.

The service was mediocre and not commensurate with a hotel where you spend USD$800/night on a bungalow. Staff was generally disengaged/unfriendly. Many of the staff couldn't speak English very well which you would have expected from a hotel catering to mostly French and US tourists (and with the Hilton name). There is this really annoying system for procuring snorkels and towels where you need to hand them cards that look like room keys in order to get the snorkels and towels. Oddly the staff of the hotel also tried to steer us away from certain things which Trip Advisor recommended in favor of lower ranked places which seemed odd to us and made us think they are getting kickbacks.

There really isn't much of a concierge, but there is an "activity desk" which I gathered was staffed by a third party company. The desk was helpful.

If you read up until this point, you'd think we had an awful time which is not true. The highlights of our stay in Moorea were the snorkeling trip coordinated by the activity desk, the day we rented a car around the island and went exploring, swimming with the dolphins at the Intercontinental and sitting on our bathing deck behind our bungalow. All very very pleasant.

To summarize the review, if you are looking for a nice place on Moorea to chill out, get a bungalow here and eat all meals outside the hotel. Don't expect too much from a service standpoint. This is probably a better place for families than couples. If I had done my trip over again, I'd have spent the three nights I spent in Moorea on another island with a better hotel or just more time in Bora Bora.

My husband and I stayed in a deluxe garden bungalow with plunge pool, closest to the resort pool. We were saving the overwater experience for Bora Bora, like a lot of people do. It was very spacious and clean. We would go to the beach in the morning, after breakfast, and come back to our bungalow for a drink (brought a mini blender), snacks, and just to enjoy our little "backyard."

pros: amazing snorkelling, free kayak and paddle board usage, lush grounds, very clean in public areas, nice sandy beach, breakfast included is a big plus, large garden bungalows, Totea Crepe Bar..unique setting and delicious meal, beautiful sunsets.

cons: long wait to check in (we arrived at 9am, but weren't given a room until close to 3pm and it was raining all day, so we just sat in the lobby, very tired and jet lagged, waiting... and waiting!!!), privacy issues with bathroom, plunge pool way too cold to make use of, female cat in heat under our bungalow, calling all the toms all night long. (met many people over breakfast who lost sleep over this. They must have received many complaints because after the 2nd night of this, the kitty cat was gone). Roosters at 5am didn't seem so bad after that!

Overall, this is a beautiful resort in Moorea, and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Excellent Hotel! We stayed in a overwater bungalow with our two children (age 6 and 9). The bungalows are small but we all managed to squeeze in and actually it was fine. The kids loved snorkelling straight from our deck looking at all of the tropical fish although they were out in a shot when they saw a rather large octopus and stingray! The staff at the Hilton were fantastic, we really felt looked after! Consistently friendly. Seemed to be a lot of honeymooners here, not a lot of children which was quite nice for us as this is a fairly peaceful place. Great for young and old and families. Hard to fault the Hilton Moorea.
