“Moorea Hilton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We also stayed at the Hilton Moorea as part of our honeymoon in French Polynesia. We stayed in a garden bungalow which had it's own plunge pool. The staff and rooms were beautifully arranged and spacious. Service was top notch. My only advise is the hotel restaurants tend to be a bit pricey, so if you can eat at local restaurants in town, you will save some money, and sad to say but you will get a better food outside. The amenities are great, lots to do, or not do if you just want to relax and enjoy. Also not much around so you have to depend on local restaurants for pick ups and no real shopping center close by. Still a great place to stay.

Room Tip: I would recommend an over the water bungalow or if you get a garden one, one that a bit more off the...

We stayed at the Hilton Moorea as part of our honeymoon in French Polynesia. We stayed in a garden bungalow which had it's own plunge pool. The view from the hotel was stunning and the snorkeling off the beach was amazing. Every restaurant we ate in was nice, in particular the crepe bar where sharks come to feed at night. The staff were really friendly and attentive and the traditional Tahitian music in the bar at night was really great. We did a half day safari trip of the island which was great, we got some fantastic photos from the top of Magic mountain. Overall the Hilton is a really nice hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

My husband and I were here on a simple vacation, apparently we were the only ones. It seemed like every other person here was on their Honeymoon, with a smattering of anniversary celebrations as well. Appeared that most of the small talk throughout the resort was wedding related. If you can stomach the over abundance of lovey dovey stuff it’s the quintessential island resort with a nice sized beach and plenty of water activities (many free). We stayed over the water and the bungalow was all we expected. Others have gone over plenty before but here are a few tips and pointers.

Bring your own booze and save a bunch of money. You can also go into town and get some if you can’t bring it with you.

Be prepared for a painful check in process. As much as you want to get to your room, you’ll be forced to sit on a couch and go through a “personal” check in experience.

If you are staying over-the-water, make sure you check out the bungalow map before you check in. Don’t get stuck with a place near the crepes bar - it really takes away from the privacy perk of being over-the-water.

Call the hotel in advance and they will arrange transport from either the airport or ferry landing to the hotel and you can charge your room.

If you have a chance to order drinks in advance through the HIlton Website, it’s worth it, beers were cheaper that way then from the bar. FYI, beers ran about $7US and mixed drinks $15US

Room Tip: Over the Water Bungalows were amazing. But look at the map beforehand - try not to get one near the...

We stayed on Tahiti and did a day trip to Moorea staying at the Hilton for lunch and the afternoon. The resort was lovely but very windy which according to other guests was a common occurrence. Food was great and the staff very attentive. Nice pool but quite small compared to other resorts. Moorea is a beautiful island but due to the mountain does attract the cloud especially of an evening.

The Hilton Resort on Moorea completely surpased our every expectation during our 5 day trip in August '12. The check-in service was fantastic and the room was very spacious, modern, and clean. We loved snorkeling off our bungalow deck and watching the sharks each night outside the crepe restaurant. We made our own cocktails on the bungalow deck listening to our in room MP3 player and watching the sun go down - it was just so relaxing. There were kayaks and standup paddleboards at the beach, but you did have to be careful not to fall on any of the corals in the beach area. The water and beach were great - I just can't say enough about this special place. The staff at this hotel made you feel very welcome and were very accomodating. The grounds were extremely well maintained and there was always a beach chair open for us.

The included breakfast was excellent with a lot to choose from, but we spent our dinners at Rudys (crab stuffed parrot fish) and two nights at La Mahogany - which had fantastic chinese shrimp lo mein dishes that I just had to come back for. There was also a terrific lunches at Snack Mahana (must go) and the small panini sandwich place just 2-3 minutes up the road. We loved swimming with sharks and rays which was one of several perks included from Pacific for Less, who made sure everything detail of our trip was perfect.

We loved this island in some ways even more than Bora Bora - Moorea is a very special place and I can't wait to return there.

This hotel is absolutely spectacular! Moorea is by far the most beautiful place we have ever seen. We spent 8 night at the hotel for our honeymoon in September 2012. We did 4 nights in a deluxe garden bungalow and 4 nights in a panoramic overwater bungalow. The garden bungalow was great and had it's own private pool. The only complaint were the noisy roosters that roam the hotel grounds. Aside from that, the property is very peaceful. The overwater bungalow was amazing, as expected. It was near the Crepes Bar which was convenient and delicious. We had all of our lunches at the Rotui Bar which overlooks the beach and were served great food daily by a very friendly staff. Our package included a daily breakfast buffet which was amazing! Every restaurant was fantastic and the staff was so friendly. The spa is a must splurge! The hotel was clean, comfortable and beautiful. It wasn't crowded like we thought it would be. We visited other hotels and found them to be packed with people and a little dirty on the hotel grounds. The hotel makes it easy for you to travel within the island by setting up transportation and rental cars. One tip would to be to invest in your own snorkel gear even though the hotel provides it for you. It's worth it! This is definitely the best hotel to be at on the island! We'll be back!

Room Tip: If you choose a garden bungalow, they are amazing, but expect to hear roosters throughout the day!

We spent four days here in October, 2012 in an over-the-water bungalow. The location can't be beat, though all the resorts are a bit removed from the small towns on the island. We brought our own snorkeling gear and used it extensively, both off our dock as well from the beach. We were near the creperie and saw sharks circling it every evening when the lights were on, which was a great sight.

The breakfast buffet was the best we experienced in French Polynesia, with variety and quality.

We rented bicycles one day and were disappointed in their quality. You will be quite sore from a four hour rental, as thet are one-speed only with uncomfortable seats. We rode into town to explore the shops. Later we rented a car from Albert, the same company that picked us up at the airport and took us there when we left Moorea. We used the car to go around the island, seeing the Belvedere Lookout, which was just okay, the Tiki Theatre Village show, which was cheesy as expected, and dine at the Mayflower, the best restaurant on the island. We never found the waterfall, though we did find the dirt road to it. Perhaps we didn't walk far enough after parking our car, as we heard the stream.

Do not arrange anything through the hotel, as their trips are much more expensive than arranging directly yourself. Our car, which cost 8,000 XPF/day, would have been 15,700 XPF through the hotel. We did do dolphin and whale-watching with Dr. Michael Poole, who has been studying dolphins for 20+ years. It was a great outing, and later we went to a lecture by him at the Hilton, which was quite informative.

We ate at Rudy's, which was great, Mahogany, which was okay, and Mayflower, which was the best.

Room Tip: Rooms past the creperie are best, as there is less traffic. It is possible to book garden rooms the...
