“Gorgeous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Stayed at Le Couvent des Cordeliers for two nights, while viewing properties around the area. So pleased my first choice was fully booked as we absolutely loved this little gem of a place! It really is as pretty as the pictures suggest...even better in fact. Loved our room on the top floor...would have been nice to have a separate shower cubicle but that is a small niggle in the overall charm of the room, which, by-the-way, was absolutely spotless. Unfortunately, the restaurant was unavailable on our visit, which was a disappointment as the terrace dining area is gorgeous as is the indoor restaurant area...but planning on returning when it is available. However, breakfast on both mornings was lovely, fresh and bountiful! Huge thank you to Peter, who really made our stay; welcoming and helpful, we really can't fault the running of this superb little Hotel. Peter helped with alternative dining suggestions, both of which were successful and we will also be returning to them as well as staying again at Le Couvent. Have given one less top mark to value, simply because it would have been lovely to have been able to have dinner or lunch here and unfortunately, there was no notification prior to booking that the restaurant was not available, but otherwise, full marks all round!

Room Tip: Loved our serene room on the top floor.

If there is a more picturesque village in France I've not found it. And Le Couvent is a lovely place to stay in that village. Only a short stay, booked at the last minute, so food-wise only had breakfast twice (which was great) and ate out and about whilst there.

As others have said, the service is fantastic and it really is a beautiful place to stay. The only minor quibble is the usual continental one is of why would you put a shower in the bath at waist height? The bathroom was huge, so I'm sure a full size shower could have been managed somewhere. But that's a minor thing and perhaps only related to this particular room as it was up on the top floor with sloping roof/eaves.

Nine of us enjoyed a lovely tea in a peaceful setting under the willow tree next to the river on a sunny afternoon, copious pots of tea and we each were served our own two tier cake stand with a delicious assortment of sandwiches, cakes, scones, cream and strawberries. All this for 15 euros per head, what a lovely experience and very nicely served by a friendly waitress. We had enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch there last year which was exemplary too. Top marks!

congratulations to the owners who clearly have a wonderful eye and excellent taste. Beautifully appointed internally, both in the bedrooms and dining room, and cleverly arranged outside where they have managed to combine "public" areas, for those not staying, with private areas for those who do stay. The courtyard, gardens and swimming pool were a very definite added bonus.

We only ha breakfast and lunch during our stay which were both excellent - good local product, freshly prepared. The dinner menus held lots of promise but we had a wedding to attend....

Staff were English and were both highly efficient and accommodating - nothing was too much trouble.

The premium (180 euros for a wonderful room with breakfast) well worth paying. on the list for a return visit

Have been for lunch a couple of times and love the outside courtyard right by the river. Summer menu was great, new menu maybe not quite so varied but we were all very happy with our choices. Service was very good the first visit but a bit slow the second time, although that was a weekend. However I am confused about the "Service charge not included" written on the menu, as I believed everywhere in France the service charge was always included in the menu price, or automatically added on to the bill ... maybe someone can clarify for me.

I've been to Le Couvent twice. Once with family and friends over the summer where we sat outside in the elegant and pretty patio by the river and more recently when we took our friends after they had just got engaged five minutes before the booking and dined inside. (He got his knee wet on the pretty little bridge in the park in Verteuil and we had booked a table to celebrate). Both times have been very good but the second time deserves a special mention as we were the only people there - yet somehow it didn't feel soulless or strange at all. In fact, the English Maitre D couldn't do more for us and made us feel like we were having our own private dinner party. The interior design is refined and has a boutique hotel/restaurant feel yet still felt cosy and inviting. Food was great. Simple but delicious starters of pate and salamis, hams etc - mains were huge salads full of flavour and good fresh ingredients. Washed down with a bottle of celebratory Champagne - made the engagement meal one to remember for all the right reasons.

What I found most impressive wasn't the delicious meals, tranquil atmosphere, or beautifully appointed decor- it was the personal attention the staff paid to me. I felt truly welcomed from the moment I arrived to when I left. It would be a pleasure to go back.
