“Great base for business trip or vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2007

We stayed at A Grand View for the second time in May, to use it as a base for our house-hunting trip in Kelowna. It's centrally located, but not so central as to be noisy or right downtown.

The breakfasts were great, the accommodation is clean, quiet and lovely, and the service and helpful insights just made things so much easier for us.

John and Sheila were incredibly helpful, suggesting not only areas that we might like, but also helping out with the ins and outs of the whole house buying process! We're based in the UK, so the insider information they were able to provide was really helpful.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights in the Garden Room. It's a large room with a small kitchen and it has an extra daybed. The walkway to the room isn't well lit at night and has many steps. The room was comfortable but there is a persistent bad odour which we thought at first was the water in the bathroom. We never did figure out what the cause was. The owners do not make up the room after each night. I've stayed in many other B&Bs all of which make up the room the next day. When I inquired, the owner asked if I had ever stayed at a B&B before and perhaps I ought to stay in a hotel if that's what I expected. She could have just explained her policy rather than question my credibility. The room wasn't all that clean. Cobwebs in the bathroom, the bedroom hadn't been vacuumed in a while.

There were enough bath towels but the one facecloth and one handtowel weren't enough. We received fresh towels after the 3rd night. Also, you'll need to bring your own shampoo, soap... if you're staying more than 1 night. Breakfast was of the hearty family type. Sugary juices, cereals, frozen waffles although John makes a nice omelette and there was yogurt. I expected to see fruit given that this is the Okanagan.

What can we say...instead of informing us of a bad odour, we had to read about it - like you - on TripAdvisor, Thanks for letting us know! Incidently, I found no "bad odour in the room", did it leave when they did?, all of the next guests couldn't detect it either!Furthermore, to write about not having enough hand towels and at the same time say "that there were plenty of other towels"....what's that all about? We do supply complimentary shampoos & soaps, bottled water, coffee, tea and snacks. Most guests on extended stays bring their own however, I don't know a single lady who doesn't bring their own special shampoos that suits their hair! If our guests need anything they usually ask before writing about the lack of it.
B&B's do differ from hotels, not having your bed made up every day could be one of them, however "family" type service is something guests expect and on at least 4 occasions we have made our vehicles available to our guests when their's have either broken down or been involved in accidents!
Regarding "frozen waffles" & "Sugary fruit juices"...I am speechless!....We only served freshly made waffles and Sun Rype fruit juices which are made right here in the Okanagan! It's important to tell the truth based on facts and this review makes me wonder what the intent was....actually I think you and I both know why.

WARNING! Prepare to be pampered! First class doesn't even begin to describe our stay at the Grandview. I live in Germany and frequently stay in 4 and 5 star hotel accommodations in Europe and can safely say that the Grandview meets those discerning standards.

Our suite was tastefully and thoughtfully laid out, fully equipped and best of all: strategically located to provide us with a beautiful panoramic view of Lake Okanogan.

Breakfast at the Grandview is a treat. I actually felt sorry for anyone who has not sampled John's famous omelets. The Starlings were gracious and helpful hosts. They even provided helpful advice which helped us save money while experiencing the best that Kelowna has to offer (and there is plenty to see and do in this area). When was the last time you bought teriyaki hot wings at 25 cents each?

The service doesn’t end when you check out. I had forgotten some medicine after checking out and the Starlings made every effort to contact me for instructions. They even made special arrangements to have my medication forwarded to me overnight.

They are proud of the Grandview and have every right to be – it is truly one of a kind experience that we will always cherish.

We were quite concerned when we found your medicine in the fridge, and were only to pleased to send it to you. Thank-you for your kind words, we really had a great time with you guys, and look forward to your return. Take care.

Wow, what a fabulous B&B with a magnificent view of Lake Okanogan and downtown Kelowna! John and Sheila are wonderful hosts. We stayed in the Lemon and Limes suite for 1 week at the end of April and thoroughly enjoyed all of the ammenities at a very affordable price. We had John's famous baked omelet every morning! Highly recommended! Each evening we had a wonderfull poolside BBQ and enjoyed the hot tub after a hard day of wine tasting and touring and playing Kelowna's challenging golf courses. We had all of the comforts of home at the B & B; we love to cook; the kitchen facilities allowed us to prepare excellent meals featuring local goat cheese and wines! The common living room features a gas fireplace, a large TV and an air hockey game. We could comfortably take in the NHL playoffs while on vacation. We highy recommend a stay at A Grand View B & B on the mountain on the westside of the lake!

Do not miss this little bit of heaven on a hillside overlooking Kelowna. With a lovely pool, hot tub, spacious accomodation and delicious breakfasts it is a first rate hideaway . There are magnificent views over the Lake during the day, and in the evening just sit on the deck and watch the millons of multicoloured lights spread over the town of Kelowna.Fantastic! Sheila and John are superb hosts. We had great difficulty dragging ourselves away . Kay, Sheila and Cameron, Fochabers, Scotland.

My wife and I just throughly enjoyed our weekend break away. Many of the major restaurants in Kelowna had some terrific deals $25/person for 3 course meals - what a great promotion. The Garden Room was perfect with its views of the lake, slate and hardwood floors, our own little kitchen and a very comfortable king bed. Our hosts John & Sheila where very hospitable, and my wife insisted on getting John's recipe for his grilled omelets before we left. A great place to stay.

We stayed 4 nights in The Garden Room while house hunting in Kelowna. John and Sheila were the perfect hosts offering us plenty of spot on advice. Breakfast set us up for the day and John's omlettes come highly recommended. The suite was beautifully decorated, modern and comfortable with a stunning view of the Okanagan lake. Next time we will pack our swimming costumes and use the hot tub.
