“A perfect stop off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We spent one night in the company of Richard, Jan and family and we were made to feel very welcome. We shared a great meal with them in the evening and then the best poached eggs ever in the morning. Lovely location, beautiful walk through the woods and countryside and very good company. The layout of the rooms is perfect for 4 couples with or without children and the kitchen area would allow you to be quite self sufficient if you stayed for longer.

A party of 8 of us were warmly greeted by Richard and Jan on arrival, The surroundings were picturesque. Accommodation was clean and spacious. Dinner cooked by Richard with all home grown and Local produce was superb, unlimited wine was served throughout the meal and nothing was too much trouble, Jan and Richard were so friendly . We stayed 1 night but would have loved to stay longer. Would not hesitate to return there again . A thoroughly pleasant experience.

We arrived for 3 nights as a break on the way down to the Pyrenees and were immediately welcomed with a well needed drink on the terrace, where we sat, chilled and admired the view.

The rooms were excellent, spotlessly clean with all you that you could need, the pictures do not really do them justice. They were also quite cool, very welcome when the temperature was in the high 30's outside. There was even a communal area with kettle, fridge, and oven for guests to use.

Where Jan and Richard really excelled was in their hospitality and cooking. The evening meals were brilliant, an aperitif to relax with then a starter, main course, cheese plate, sweet and coffee all with as much wine you could drink. All were home cooked and wherever possible with home grown ingredients.

The standard was maintained at breakfast with fresh fruits, eggs, home made breads and jams. I never needed lunch! You would struggle to find better and at such a reasonable cost.

The result was we had a brilliant time and would certainly recommend this to anyone.

We arrived at La Chouette after a long, hot journey and were immediately welcomed by Jan who offered us all a cold drink on the terrace. We were shown to our rooms; very spacious and comfortable for a family of 4. After drinks we ate a delicious, relaxed meal with our hosts. It's clear that Richard thoroughly enjoys his cooking- we did too!! Lots of seasonal produce washed down with plenty of wine. We left the following morning after a truly delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, poached eggs, homemade bread and croissants. The homemade jams were terrific!
I would recemmned La Chouette without reservation for anyone who ejoys good food and company. A perfect stay; my only regret was that it was only for one night! Thank you so much for your hospitality. We'd love to come back!

We stayed for three nights in la chouette in our way back to Spain. We choose the place because of good comments in tripadvisor, but really it was more than we expected. Location is amazing, great views (photos are not capable of reproduce the beauty of the place), room was big and clean, and Jan and Richard really knows how to make feel guests at home. Richard is great chef and breakfast were simply better than in 5 star hotels. Table d'hotes were very good too. I strongly recommend this place if you visit Limoges or the lake of Vassivière.

We were lucky enough to stay in La Chouette on our way back through France. We arrived to a very warm welcome and the best cup of tea we had, had during our entire trip. Jan and Richard are incredibly hospitable hosts making us feel instantly at ease and at home. The accommodation was clean and smart with lovely views over the couple's gorgeous garden. We opted to eat at La Chouette and were treated to gastronomic delights, some of the best food we have eaten during our entire trip. There was also a plentiful supply of wine all included in the price! Breakfast was again superb, the best poached eggs I have ever eaten alongside croissant to die for! As for the homemade jam...delicious! Our only disappointment was that we were only able to stay one night ( due to our lack of planning!) we very much hope to return! It is clear that Jan and Richard work very hard to provide the best experience for their guests in every regard! Xxxxx

Room Tip: Any the entire setting is beautiful! Do opt for the meal too!

This is one of the quiet places we have ever been, the place is really nice and the landlords are nice and charming. Best of all are the dinner and the breakfast, with natural and fresh ingredients mixed in an original combination which converted in one of the most spectacular dishes I've tasted. Thanks to Richard and Jan for the excellent time we spendt there.
