“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We arrived back today and have had a fantastic time. If you want Britain in the Sun then this isn't for you but if you want a fun family holiday is a Spanish resort at a hotel where the staff speak better English than I speak Spanish, then go to Cabogata Gardens! All the staff work so hard, it's exhausting to watch! There was plenty of choice in the restaurant and it was delicious. I can't fault this holiday. The room we had was good. We faced the pool so could watch the entertainment from our balcony.
We would walk along the beach in the evening and visit the shops and little market stalls. Again, everyone was so friendly and most spoke a little English.
I would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the pool give a good view of the entertainment but if you want something quieter the...

Weve just returned form a weeks holiday at this hotel. There was 8 of us, 2 family's, the childrens ages ranged from 11 to 16. We found the hotel reception very helpful and friendly. The pool area was very nice and kids enjoyed being in the pool but the saff did not allow them to play or use small inflatables, which is silly when the shop within the hotel sell them to you only to find you can't use them. The rooms are very big and cleaned every day, but unfortunately our air conditioning did not work properly, which was warm trying to get redy n the evenings. We did report this to reception but nothing was done about it. We also paid an adult price for our 16 year old but he was given a sofa bed mattress to sleep on, which was not good enough as he is 6ft adult. We did complain to Marcia the rep and she did try to rectify it by giving us 2 small mattresses, but this didn't really address the problem, so he had an awful nights sleep with his legs hanging off the bed.
This hotel could make small improvements such as, the waiters in the restaurant do not speak or understand English which makes ordering drinks difficult. The staff around the pool bar are rushed off their feet and always had a queue for drinks. They are served in small plastic cups, so you are constantly queuing for a drink.
The cleanliness is not great, the tongs are provided to help yourself to crisps inside a container, the tongs are used and dropped back into the crisps, I never saw these tongs washed or changed.
The toilets around the pool area are really dirty, we didn't use them as they were not clean.
The buffet is very good with lots of choice. My only complaint is that the food is barely warm but it is varied and caters for everybody. Again they give you ice cream scoops which the children use and drop back in the ice cream.
Overall the holiday was good but small improvements would make a huge difference to this hotel.
Would I go back to this hotel, I have to say no.. 4 stars is rather generous.

Dear Guests

First of all thank you for your comments all the opinions of our guests are very wellcome to us as
this is the best way to improve our services .
We are glad you enjoyed the pool area and we are sorry about the inflatables.
It is not allowed to use them in the pool as they disturb the normal use of it .The shop we have if not property of the hotel and the inflatables they sell are meant mainly for the beach .

When a guest adress to reception to let us know a problem about the room , maintenance service is informed strait away .They keep a control of every breakdown and report to reception when
the repairing is done .If we had known the breakdown keep coming out in your room we would have change you to a different one .

The family rooms have 2 beds and one sofa bed for 2 people .This information is exposed in al the descriptions of the hotel and all the touroperators know about it .

Toilets by the swimming pool were cleaned every day 3 times a day. Due to the volume of people we realized that was not enough and we have reinforced the cleaning .

We thank you once again for your remarks and we apologise if the service in your opinion was not the correct one.

We have just returned (11th August) from a great holiday and I would certainly recommend it.

Yes the hotel is classed at a 4 star and I’m sure it was a few years ago so in my opinion should only be a 3 but is clean, tidy and has a really nice layout, nothing too far away.

There was no rush to get up in the morning to grab a sunbed, we would arrive just after 9am and only a handful had been taken, same with the entertainment, plenty of tables and chairs. The food was good quality with plenty available.

The entertainment team worked hard with activities throughout the day and lots of dancing and miming in the evenings. There were lots to choose from behind the bar and practically all drinks were branded plus the mixed nuts were lovely.

Not a huge number of staff could speak much English but isn’t that the fun of going abroad. It didn’t take long to discover words they did understand or ways of asking for stuff and it just added to the experience.

The beach is stony but you don’t have to walk far to get to sandy beaches. The town is small with only a couple of shops, a supermarket and a few restaurants but it was nice not to be hassled by people when you left the hotel. The onsite shop was reasonably priced and had different stuff to that in town.

Room Tip: They do offer you the chance to upgrade to a suite but you do need to ask on arrival.

Dear guest
Thanks a lot to let us know your good experience while being with us .It is extremely satisfying to see you enjoyed the food , our all inclusive service and the entertainment .
Regarding the sunbeds we try to avoid the reservation of these ones by taking off the towels left for more than one hour without supervising , that way everybody can enjoy our pool area.
We can confirm that we we are a 4 star hotel , not only for our facilities but also for the service we offer .
Once again thank you for your nice review and we hope to see you back soon.

I have just arrived home from 11 nights at this hotel with Thomas Cook. It was a family holiday, 4 adults and 3 children.

I always suspected that the feedback added during June 2013 were the first Brits arriving who really should return to Benidorm or the Costa Del Sol and so I was right!!!

The hotel is in a small town called El Toyo about 10kms from airport and the City of Almeria. Yes it is very quiet and mainly visited by Spaniards for their summer beach holiday but it was a pleasure to spend 11 days away from noisy Brits. The children made friends with loads of Spanish kids who either could speak a bit of English or they just made do.

Within 2 minutes of the hotel their is a square with plenty of bars on and a further 10 minutes either via a walk down the promenade or main road there is a further set of bars with a supermarket and chemist. This really is a lovely resort and in a very natural part of Spain.

The hotel was fantastic and catered perfectly for families with children/ teenagers. If you are a couple looking for a quiet break then go somewhere else this hotel is all about families enjoying quality time in the sun.

The reception staff were 1st class, spoke great English, nothing was too much trouble for them and always done with a smile. I needed to get an important document sent home, they scanned it and even emailed it for me!!!

The rooms are not flashy but perfect for this type of holiday. They were kept immaculately clean daily with great balconies and air conditioning. The beds are fine too. If you have a family room they are huge. If you are above the reception you even get wifi in your room.

The free wifi does work just avoid busy periods so early morning or during the entertainment in the evening it was perfect. Just down to capacity.

The food was excellent plenty of choice, varied as much as possible and regularly replaced. The salads were fantastic and always one fish and two meats on the grill plus plenty of other dishes. Great bacon in the morning and even HP sauce!! The waiters were brilliant and you got your drinks served really quick.

The entertainment staff were brilliant only about 6 of them to cover kids club, sporting activities and the evening shows. They worked so hard and provided really good entertainment, yes they don't sing they mime but so be it. At the end of every night they get the whole hotel up dancing and really ensure that people enjoy their time at the Cabogata Garden!!

Their are 3 pools, a kids paddling pool, a fun pool and a deeper pool for swimming. They were immaculate and at least 2 life guards on at all times. Yes and they do enforce the one hour rule on sunbeds which is good to see but there are plenty so no real need to get up at 6!!

The shop in the hotel is really good with British newspapers and all the things you would need for your holiday but you can walk to the supermarket if you need more.

A really good point is that the hotel also has non all inclusive customers who pay for their drinks. I have been to hotels (Barceló chain) where they basically have local brands for all inclusive and the more recognised ones for paying guests. Not here it is all the same!! So you get Smirnoff, Bombay or gordons gin etc. etc.

A tip there is no cash machine in the immediate resort but there is plenty in Almeria or one at the hospital in El Toyo at the petrol station. But this is a good 1 hour return trip on foot, I know!!! So either bring enough euros or plan a trip a trip during your stay to the city of Almeria which is only 1 euro each way for adults, free for children and bus stop right outside hotel.

Almeria is a real typical Spanish city and well worth the visit. All the shops are closed on Sunday but the bars and cafés are open.

The Thomas Cook Rep (not that we ever need them) is not resident in the hotel and visits about once a week but to be fair to her she sent us 2 notes during the holiday to check we were okay with her contact number which was perfect.

All in all a fantastic holiday with my family at a great hotel. Well done to all the management and staff at the Cabogata Garden!!!

P.S. Don't tell the Benidorm Brits, leave them to moan there eating their beef sunday lunch and drinking tetleys in the Rose and Crown!!!!

Room Tip: If you want wifi in your room get one at front of hotel above reception, if you want to watch the sh...

Dear Guest

First of all thank you for the special mention you make of reception , entertainment and all the staff of Cabogata Garden .

We are glad you enjoy your time with us and that you had discovered in el Toyo a quiet and relaxing option for your holidays .

As you comment el Toyo is a residential area quiet but close to everything :Only 12 km from the Capitol and 20 minutes away from the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.

Security in swimming pools is a must for us and our life guards are trained to keep surveillance constantly .In our ALL INCLUSIVE service, as you say, we only work with first brands. We do not use unknown ones. That make us happy you enjoyed them.

Thanks again for your review and we hope to see back in your next holidays.

I like many others had read the reviews before travelling and was somewhat dreading it and had even looked at trying to rearrange to go elswehere. However, i am so glad that we didn't because the holiday proved that previous reviews had been so wrong and so far from the truth!! I have just returned from our annual famly holiday (travelled with friends), relaxed, tanned and definitely 2 dress sizes bigger but wishing I was back at the Cabogata!
All aspects (apart from one - see below) of our holiday were great and far exceeded our expecations. I agree with previous reviews that the transfer to Cabogata is ideal as only a few minutes (especially in temperatures exceeding 85 degrees). Check in was very efficient and we were fortunate that our room was ready immediately on arrival at 10.30!!!!
The room was always cleaned thoroughly & spaciuous and more than adequate for us and a teenager!!! The food could not be faulted in any way. There was always an abundance of it, the quality was better than expected and the temperature of it just right. It beggars belief that any one (apart from your habitual moaners) could find fault with it. The pools were cleaned daily, well guarded and for the fiirst time in all my holidays, I did not have to get up at 5.00 to put towels on beds!!! The hotel stuck to its ruling that if your bed was not used for an hour, your towels were taken off and handed to reception.
The surrounding area of the hotel was again very clean and properly maintained. One small problem (although not for us) was that the life guards and toilets on the beach were not operational until 12.00.

Finally and only because it was a small factor and did not in any way spoli our holiday was the evening entertainment (day time entertainment was not a problem). The entertainment team could not have worked any harder, were a terrific team and extremely friendly to all. A credit to the hotel. However, the evening entertainment did not take into account the fact that the clientele were of all ages and nationality. Not once during my stay, did any of the team sing - all songs were mimed to. It would have made watching somewhat more enjoyable if some of team could sing and sang live. Finally, with a hotel of that size, the management should consider bringing in some outside entertainment. In the 10 days we were there, the Team provided the nightly entertainment for 7 nights.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your nice review , for us it is important to know the impressions of our guests as a way to improve our service .It is very gratifying for us to know you had such a good time.

Our main priority at the arrival of a guest is to offer a quick and efficient check in ,trying to have the rooms ready as soon as possible so you dont have to wait to long .

To offer a good buffet is very important for us and we have been working hard to improve it every time and also give the English client the temperature he demands on th e food .

As a way to give everybody the opportunity to enjoy the big amount of sunbeds we have at the swimming pool we have a control sistem on those sunbeds not used for more than one hour .
It seems to work and guests appreciate it .

The night entertaiment shows carried out by our team are more demanded by guests than the outside ones ,anyhow we do take note of your suggestion.

Once again thank you for showing us your opinion and we hope to see back again next time

We have just returned from our annual famly holiday, relaxed, tanned and wishing we were back in Spain!
All aspects of our week have been great- from flight and airport experience. Certainly the transfer to Cabogata is ideal at only a few minutes. Check in was very efficient and our room was ready immediately on arrival at about 2pm.
The family room being very spacious, over looking the pool area. We- like another reviewing family -benefitted from a view of the stage area/pool. This proved ideal, balcony view of the nightly show. Each evening there was a different theme- we enjoyed all, especially the 'lion king'and 'music through time'. The entertainment for all ages- mini, teen and adult - meant that for the first time, I got to sun bathe! This was also due to the reassurance of having life guard presence, so children could play and swim, the extra set of eyes being a lovely addition.
We liked the complimentary water (replaced daily) and cosmetics- used by our teenager!!
Since our return our appetites have been huge - I think because of the superb food- both in terms of choice and quality. We have been well and truly spoilt. I would happily challenge even the fussiest of eaters not to be at the very least satisfied by the varied and delicious choice. If you don't eat your fill at any of the designated meal times, you can be 'topped up' by the snacks constantly available morning and afternoon, as well as the ice cream and crisps available at the pool and indoor bar. Every single staff member was - friendly, courteous, efficient. The entertainment staff had 'bags of energy' and were great at encouraging everybody to get involved. The twice nightly minidisco proving very popular with our 7 year old. So much so that she has bought the mini disco CD on arriving home to continue the routines!!
The surrounding area has a lovely feel- we enjoyed an evening stroll along the beach front, plenty of tapas bars, pedal cars to hire, even a travelling fair. All in all- we would totally recommend this hotel and the area to anyone wanting a quiet break based around a top quality establishment.
