I have just arrived home from 11 nights at this hotel with Thomas Cook. It was a family holiday, 4 adults and 3 children.
I always suspected that the feedback added during June 2013 were the first Brits arriving who really should return to Benidorm or the Costa Del Sol and so I was right!!!
The hotel is in a small town called El Toyo about 10kms from airport and the City of Almeria. Yes it is very quiet and mainly visited by Spaniards for their summer beach holiday but it was a pleasure to spend 11 days away from noisy Brits. The children made friends with loads of Spanish kids who either could speak a bit of English or they just made do.
Within 2 minutes of the hotel their is a square with plenty of bars on and a further 10 minutes either via a walk down the promenade or main road there is a further set of bars with a supermarket and chemist. This really is a lovely resort and in a very natural part of Spain.
The hotel was fantastic and catered perfectly for families with children/ teenagers. If you are a couple looking for a quiet break then go somewhere else this hotel is all about families enjoying quality time in the sun.
The reception staff were 1st class, spoke great English, nothing was too much trouble for them and always done with a smile. I needed to get an important document sent home, they scanned it and even emailed it for me!!!
The rooms are not flashy but perfect for this type of holiday. They were kept immaculately clean daily with great balconies and air conditioning. The beds are fine too. If you have a family room they are huge. If you are above the reception you even get wifi in your room.
The free wifi does work just avoid busy periods so early morning or during the entertainment in the evening it was perfect. Just down to capacity.
The food was excellent plenty of choice, varied as much as possible and regularly replaced. The salads were fantastic and always one fish and two meats on the grill plus plenty of other dishes. Great bacon in the morning and even HP sauce!! The waiters were brilliant and you got your drinks served really quick.
The entertainment staff were brilliant only about 6 of them to cover kids club, sporting activities and the evening shows. They worked so hard and provided really good entertainment, yes they don't sing they mime but so be it. At the end of every night they get the whole hotel up dancing and really ensure that people enjoy their time at the Cabogata Garden!!
Their are 3 pools, a kids paddling pool, a fun pool and a deeper pool for swimming. They were immaculate and at least 2 life guards on at all times. Yes and they do enforce the one hour rule on sunbeds which is good to see but there are plenty so no real need to get up at 6!!
The shop in the hotel is really good with British newspapers and all the things you would need for your holiday but you can walk to the supermarket if you need more.
A really good point is that the hotel also has non all inclusive customers who pay for their drinks. I have been to hotels (Barceló chain) where they basically have local brands for all inclusive and the more recognised ones for paying guests. Not here it is all the same!! So you get Smirnoff, Bombay or gordons gin etc. etc.
A tip there is no cash machine in the immediate resort but there is plenty in Almeria or one at the hospital in El Toyo at the petrol station. But this is a good 1 hour return trip on foot, I know!!! So either bring enough euros or plan a trip a trip during your stay to the city of Almeria which is only 1 euro each way for adults, free for children and bus stop right outside hotel.
Almeria is a real typical Spanish city and well worth the visit. All the shops are closed on Sunday but the bars and cafés are open.
The Thomas Cook Rep (not that we ever need them) is not resident in the hotel and visits about once a week but to be fair to her she sent us 2 notes during the holiday to check we were okay with her contact number which was perfect.
All in all a fantastic holiday with my family at a great hotel. Well done to all the management and staff at the Cabogata Garden!!!
P.S. Don't tell the Benidorm Brits, leave them to moan there eating their beef sunday lunch and drinking tetleys in the Rose and Crown!!!!
