“I would never recommend this Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Everything about the structure, stairways, doors, windows, decoration, furnishings, confirm that it is tired and in need of a great deal of renovation / attention. Constant Road noise.
Serve continental breakfast unless you order cooked breakfast night before, costings don't match information supplied in room. Only one waitress, very pleasant but doing cleaning in between service.

Room Tip: Ensure room is at rear of property facing river.

I loved staying at this hotel.

Great location, magnificent gardens, views across the river, a grand and stately old building, a warm welcome with discreetly excellent service.

What I like most is the faded, almost colonial, feel to it all - a bit like staying in the E&O in Penang or the Galle Fort in Sri Lanka (in the good old days).

Yes it's a bit creaky. But, again, that's part of the charm.

Not to everyone's tastes but, if you're after sterility, I think there's a Premier Inn down the road.

Stayed here for one night having seen pictures on their website. Thankfully it was not longer.
The only good things about this hotel are the location and the free parking, although don't park here if you want to use the car during the stay or have to get up early.
The rooms are very run down and tired. The decor although trying to be period, is just shabby.
I paid £140 for a double room with breakfast. On arrival we were pointed in the general direction of the room and left to it. Breakfast was cold bread rolls, cheese and yoghurts. No cooked breakfast offered at all.
Will not be staying again or recommending anyone else does.

3rd visit to the Hobart ....old quirky but full of character ....good helpful staff , great position for exploring Richmond and further afield, once your parked everything is in easy walking distance

We stayed in the Emperor Suite at this hotel. The room was accessed up the original stone staircase in a hall covered in murals and ceiling paintings. Inside was one of the largest high ceilinged rooms you will find in London other than in a 5-star hotel. A beautiful antique 4-poster bed which was actually very comfortable, and a wonderful view through the garden to the River Thames made the room fabulous. A quick walk along the to bath in the morning and then into breakfast in the most quirky dining room I have visited, in subtle shades of pink but with paintings on every panel around the room, it takes your breath away. The continental breakfast was quite adequate, but the cooked breakfast was extremely good and well worth the extra £6. The staff were all very friendly. If you want to explore Richmond, Kew and the surrounding area, do try booking this room for the night - you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: Obviously the cheaper rooms are not in the same category, but people in the family and larger double...

This guest house doesn't look like it has had a penny spent on it for 30 years. There's nothing like a comfortable clean hotel that's good value for money, and this is nothing like a comfortable clean hotel that's good value for money! £110 per night? They are having a laugh - never again!!! Location however is great for town centre, for a pleasent evening though, I would rather sleep in my car - do not stay here unless you can get the room for £30 - that's all it's worth!

Apart from the reception, which is quite attractive, this guest house is very poorly presented in many ways outdated. Our double room was small, carpets were old and stained, the paintwork was dirty and the bathroom was very outdated. The standard of cleanliness was borderline.
Breakfast was uninspiring. It featured ghastly fat free yoghurts with 'three for £1' emblazened across the lid and dull breakfast coffee - isn't it nearly always in hotels?
The dining room, overlooking the Thames, could be delightful but it needs decent furniture and decoration. This was a hasty pre-Christmas choice and a mistake.
