Stayed here for the weekend, and staff were obviously on a skeleton shift on Sunday evening.
We had booked a superior room, and I must say, it was very comfortable, with a nice view overlooking the front of the hotel. They do really need to do something about the floorboards, though. The whole floor creaked as you walked around the room, and the bathroom, again spacious, had floor tiles which were loose from the uneven floor.
We went down for a drink on Sunday evening, and the staff, though friendly, seemed unsure of procedures, and we only got a drink when the manager came through to show the bar staff how to pour our drinks!!
We had booked an evening meal, but again, we had to take the initiative, in getting a menu, and were again seen to by the manager, who seemed to be training inexperienced staff, whilst doing all the tasks himself.
The food, though edible, was not what we would have rated in a 2 rosette restuarant. I had ordered scallops as a starter, which had obviously been cooked and then left under a hot lamp, until my wifes starter was ready. This meant that they were overcooked due to a red hot plate. The rest of the meal was adequate, but not exceptional.
For what we paid for the meal, I would have expected better quality cooked and prepared food, and would not eat there again.
The breakfast was good, with a pleasant garden room being used for serving, but again the service was basic, without anybody apparently being in charge. No extra coffee or toast was offered, not that we may have wanted it, but the offer would have been nice as a matter of courtesy.
All in all, a comfortable hotel, but they do need to be more attentive to guests, and train their staff to a higher standard.
