I love The Petersham. I think it's a wonderful hotel. We stayed here recently for our first wedding anniversary celebratory weekend when the year previous we stayed here for the weekend of our wedding.
We love the decor of the hotel, the staircase, piano, paintings etc. And the staff are incredibly helpful, polite and professional. Check in was fine and the room was lovely. We stayed in a standard room and the weekend rate was £150 per night, which includes breakfast. You have all you could need in the room, wardrobe, hangers, tv, safe, water, local area info and room service and hotel booklet, trouser press, writing desk and paper, shower caps, bubble bath, shampoo, shoe shine and soap etc and a comfortable bed. There is an attention for detail with everything at this hotel, and it is very clean and tidy.
We didn't stay for lunch at the hotel but went to lunch at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park (approx 10 min walk through the beautiful park) which was were we got married. However we had dinner at the Petersham and it was quite a posh affair, although it's fine if you dress down though but generally everyone was in smart attire. The waiters were very professional, thorough and provided excellent service (nothing is too much trouble). The food was delicious and exceptional. We had a starter, main course and dessert followed by tea for two people (no alcohol though) which cost us approx £90.
We had room service breakfast and the food was very good too. You get to choose whether you want a continental or full english breakfast. We had the continental, and you choose from a variety of cereal (cornflakes, all bran, special k etc), which bread you want (wholemeal, white etc) and your fruit juice (apple, organge, grapefruit). It comes with jams, marmalades, croissants, tea or coffee etc.
The location of the Petersham is by the river thames and near to Richmond Park. The views are lovely and I believe the view over the thames from the Petersham is a protected area too - so no building developments to spoil the view! About a 5-10 min walk takes you into the main shopping area of Richmond and to the eateries too. It is on a bus route which takes you to Ealing or Kingston (depends on what way you want to go). It's about a 20 min walk from Richmond tube and train station though, it may be advisable to jump in a cab at the station, unless you enjoy the walk.
For those thinking of staying at the hotel for the duration of their wedding, we did this last year and the staff at the Petersham made it a very special and memorable stay for us. We had one of the river view rooms, which I think cost around £275 per night and we stayed two nights. The room had a lounge area with balcony as well as bedroom area with balcony and a large marble type bathroom with a large bath, separate shower cubicle, twin sinks etc. In this room we even got a dressing gown and slippers! We went for this river view room as it is much more special for the occasion than the standard rooms. The staff were fine that I would be having some people in and out, i.e make up artist etc, plus the room gave us ample room for the coming and goings and storage of the wedding items etc. When it was time for me to leave for the wedding, the Petersham had laid out a red carpet and railings down the steps of the entrance of the hotel, which was such a lovely touch and makes your day all the more special and in the evening when we got back to our hotel room, they had left a fruit basket and bottle of champagne in our room too! Fantastic!
My husband and I have agreed we want to stay at the Petersham on our next anniversary too!
