“Beautiful Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

I stayed at the Petersham for two nights. Beautiful property overlooking the River Thames. Large, clean rooms, excellent restaurant and bar area, friendly staff. Afternoon tea service is classic old-English - very nicely presented by the staff. A bit of a walk into town - but still a very convenient location in Richmond.

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Petersham over the weekend as we were attending a rugby match at Twickenham. From the website the hotel looked very impressive and indeed when we arrived, the façade of the building is imposing to say the least. The grandeur of the hotel is slightly lost when you go inside however and it feels as if the hotel is slightly tired in some ways. We had a basic double room on the top floor and it was adequate, but certainly not much more than that; the storage was limited, the shower very basic and décor again a bit dated. We didn’t eat at the hotel, but did have breakfast in the dining room, which again had a slightly dated feel to it. We did notice that a fair proportion of the people (potentially by chance) staying at the hotel were 50+, which may be what the hotel caters for more specifically. If you are of a younger generation and are looking for more up-to-date luxury then The Petersham may not be for you, however it was a decent hotel in a very pleasant location non-the-less.

I stayed here on a recent visit to Twickenham & if you're staying in Richmond & fancy splashing out a bit look no further.

The hotel is sat up on Richmond Hill giving superb vistas of the River Thames & the surrounding area. There are plenty of parking spaces though the road leading up to the hotel was a bight tight with non-residents parking there.

My single room was very small & over looked the internal wall & if I'm being honest at £150.00 for one night I'd expect something a bit bigger but it was clean & had wifi. Some of the other rooms looked really good with superb views.

Breakfast was nothing special but it wasn't bad either, I did have a lunch on the Saturday & that was spot on.

The staff on the reception desk were very very efficient & polite.

Would I stay here again? Yes but in another room just in case I had a cat I wanted to swing.

Stayed for one night on business and thoroughly enjoyed it. I booked a standard twin room and on arrival we were informed that the room had been upgraded to an executive twin room. This had fabulous views across the famous 'bend in the river' and also had a balcony, which if it had been summer would have been amazing. The facilities in the room were excellent along with a good sized bathroom and walk in wardrobe. The beds were very comfortable and had a good nights sleep. The breakfast in the morning was of great quality with a good variety of dishes to choose from. The staff were extremely attentive but not in your face. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Richmond for business or pleasure.

We booked here for a weekend away, I was a bit sceptical based on some of the poor views and their website doesn't do the hotel justice. However, it's really very nice. We did have the superior, river facing rooms with great bathrooms which I'm sure made a difference, I don't know what the standard ones are like.
The service is faultless, not once did we have to wait for anything or ask twice. Very friendly, not pretentious or too familiar, just right. The quality of cooking in the restaurant is excellent too, and service well managed so it was very smooth.
We were lucky on our visit and enjoyed it thoroughly, no complaints at all and would go again.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, the food was excellent, location superb. Having my breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the Thames was fantastic, and it was freshly cooked, not a dreadful luke-warm buffet. Nice toiletries in the bathroom. Superb sea-bass for dinner..... I just want to go back asap!

To be fair, my view if this hotel is a little tainted. I stay away for work a fair bit and hotels in general are quite expensive I feel. The Petersham isn't particularly cheap but for a single room (single bed) it's not terrible either. Somehow by booking it last minute, I did get a pretty good rate which sweetens the taste of course. And I love Richmond, the park etc etc.

It has a grand feel to it lent by the location of course, and the buildings itself. I can't say the staff were exceptional, but there was nothing to complain about either.

I'd definitely stay again and I've given it a 4 rating because I have spent the same money for a whole lot less in a prefab box by the motorway. That said, if you are a seasons traveller with a taste for luxury, you might be a little let down. Might. Personally I think it's fab ;o)
