“Last days inLondon before trip home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Excellent hotel, best Dover sole (most priciest on menu), great bar & wine service
Nice staff.
Took walks along river into town ahead.
But had worst Hotel room over the Main Front door & early AM traffic cfoming into hotel.
Had a pull out bed for night over.
Could have used space for office or storage alone or Dayroom vs Hotel room
It overlooks parking area from window & place needs flat screen HD TVs

Room Tip: Avoid room above Main Front door, otherwise fine rooms Too cramped & can hear early AM noise fr...

We stayed here for the weekend. The staff are very helpful and attentive. We were a bit disappointed with the size of the bed initially and so we were given a twin room instead for the first night. The reception staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfast was lovely and I agree with all the other comments about the view over the Thames from the breakfast room. It is stunning!
The only comment is that the rooms are smaller than you'd expect from the grand entrance. The bathrooms are well maintained. Overall a really enjoyable stay.

We stayed for one night on Saturday and could find nothing to complain about. The price was good being that we were overlooking Richmond and it was local to walk into town
The quality of the curtains meant the room was warm but also kept it dark once morning had arrive so we could sleep for longer.
All thought lot of people were leaving there was no noise or disturbance.
A really nice friendly hotel which is good quality and excellent value

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with the views of Richmond

I've stayed at The Petersham for 4 nights during a business trip in Richmond (which is a beautiful place!) and enjoyed every second of it!
the rooms are spacious, bathroom was huge and room facilities were very comfortable - coffee/tea, kettle, free wi-fi, hot water, phone, etc.
the breakfast was very good and the view from the restaurant is amazing!

Room Tip: do not take a room at the fourth floor! this floor is partially renovated and the walls in the hallw...

The building is beautiful and I believe it was built in the 19th C to compete with the Star and Garter for the regular London party weekends. The large windows in the restaurant and bar terrace look out upon and an AONB and the views of the bends of the river and water meadows are striking. It is a unique building in a fabulous location and the staff, particularly the concierge have a wonderful friendly and service minded attitude. Given it's location just 20 mins from central London, it feels like a country house escape.

The Petersham is a beautiful hotel. You will be aware of this from the minute you enter its parking lot. It also has a spectacular central staircase, supposedly with some history behind it.

The breakfast is nice, with relatively small portions, but anytime we asked for extras we weren't charged anything, so that was nice. The breakfast room, which is supposed to also be a nice place for dinner, has great views over the Thames.

They also has a 110-220 converter to "loan", which came in very handy.

However, the room keys seem to be an issue. Almost any time i went into the room I had to swipe the key several times, sometimes as many as ten times. At other times, the hotel staff told me as I entered the hotel that my room key wouldn't work and had to accompany me to the room to open the door for me. This happened all throughout our week long stay, and is quite annoying.

Another thing to note is room size - i was in a nice room, big enough and quite spacey (surely for a London hotel), but my buddy was in a room he said wasn't as large and wasn't as well equipped (in terms of TV, radiator).

Speaking of radiator - we were in Richmond during a cold spell, and my room's window wasn't very insulating, letting in quite a lot of cold. I had to use the radiator in the closet to create a barrier between the bed and the window...

But having said all that, the stay was quite enjoyable.

Room Tip: Not sure what the rules are for which rooms are bigger/ better, but there's certainly a big diff...

My wife and I stayed here over the hottest weekend of the year (17-19 August,2012). We have friends in Richmond and have stayed previously in different hotels but this is the best. The view across the fields to the Thames is magnificent. Service was excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel is full of character. I would have awarded 5 stars but there was no aircon and the room was advertised as with a balcony but it was too small to sit on and the window didn't open anyway. The staff did find us a very small fan.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Thames and a usable balcony.
