Mary & Nelson, the owners of the Meadowsweet, are probably the friendliest, most helpful hoteliers we've ever encountered.
The hotel is in a good setting, with views from the front rooms over the open countryside - the field opposite is home to 3 horses & a flock of geese.
Our room was small, but perfectly adequate for our needs, although the bathroom was definitely at the lower end of the size range! The owners are in the process of refurbishing the hotel, so a few things were looking a bit tired. However, the restaurant & bar areas have been done out in the last month, and are really lovely. There's a log fire and lots of tea-lights in the bar, which made it really cosy. Food was superb - an extensive menu for evening meals, using local produce. Breakfast again was great, including an American option of pancakes with fresh berries or bacon, and French toast, both of which i thought were quite unusual.
Nothing was too much trouble, and we were able to take our dog into the bar with us each evening, which was great. She also stayed in the room with us, for a mere £10 additional charge for the whole stay.
We weren't that taken with Llanrwst itself, but that wasn't a problem, as the food & service in the hotel was so good, we didn't want to go elsewhere anyway! The location is convenient for Snowdonia & the Conwy coast, without having to cope with the bustle of Betws-y-Coed, which is just up the valley.

“First Class”

The Meadowsweet Hotel

Mar 18, 2008

A family member booked this hotel for us - we stayed in Room 9- a family room for two adults and two children. The room was spotless clean, newly decorated with fanatastic view of surronding countryside. The room was very warm at all times and beds very comfortable. Breakfast was first class with a varied menu to suit all tastes. Unfortunately we did not get to eat in the resteraunt as we had family committments. There was a beautiful astomphere in the bar around the open fire. The hotel is full of old world charm which you do not get in the modent hotels. Great location for walking to local resteraunts, shops, pubs etc. But would need a car to tour further the surronding countryside. Plenty to keep you entertained. I would highly recommend anyone to stay in this lovely hotel in a beautiful location and we ourselves will defintely return.

This was our third stay and we got the usual warm welcome. The beds are the most comfortable hotel beds we have experienced, and you will be guaranteed a peaceful nights sleep. Breakfast will 'set you up' for the day, and you will return from a day exploring North Wales to sumptuous and suberb locally produced and freshly cooked food.
We will be back!

My wife and I and our two children (ages 8 and 7) just returned from a journey to London and Wales which included a three night stay at this wonderful hotel. Huge, hearty breakfasts sustained us on our rambling, long hikes within walking distance of the hotel. We returned to elegant, first-class dinners, and then enjoyed a nightcap by the fireplace. My wife is partial to fluffy, crisp bedding, and was not disappointed! The happy staff was attentive to all of our needs. Our young daughter was enchanted to wake up in a room overlooking a meadow with 3 Welsh ponies and a flock of geese.
