“A Real Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We stopped here for lunch, en route home to Morecambe from a week in Seahouses on the East coast.

Oh my word! What a find this pub is. Although we were the only strangers there, my husband and I and our dog were treated with friendliness from both staff and customers alike.

We both ordered the Shepherd's Pudding (home made) which consisted of a suet pudding filled with minced lamb, and served with hand cut chips and mushy peas in an excellent gravy. The whole thing was beautifully prepared and cooked. The beers are well kept and very flavoursome.

You will almost certainly need a sat nav to find this gem of a place, but make the effort and you will certainly be rewarded.

“Christmas Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

The Kirkstyle Inn is located very close to picturesque walks along the the Pennine way, South Tyne Trail and The South Tynedale Railway. We decided to book Christmas Lunch after enjoying a family day out on the STR Santa Claus Special and having visited the Kirkstyle earlier in the year.

The extended family hailing from South West Scotland and Co Durham selected in advance form a mouth watering Christmas menu and were able to book one table to accomodate 11 people in the main bar next to the log fire and the beautiful Christmas garland decorations around the open stone fireplace.

The meal was absolutely first class and combined all of the usual culinary aspects of a Christmas lunch with some tantalisingly tastie little differences. The Chef and her helper were praised by all for the friendly and delightful way that the afternoon went by.

Finally value for money, again first class and what a difference to the preprepared mass catering that hungry travellers are sometimes subjected to further down the road in the Lake District.

Well worth a visit and we will definetly be back soon.

Thank you The Davis and Krajewski families

“The best meal we have had in the UK, ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

We were told about this hidden gem just two days before our departure from the Cumbria area after spending one month here. We loved the food, service and ambiance. We are just sorry that we didn't find it sooner. We stopped in for lunch today and will return tomorrow for dinner and to listen to a jazz concert. This pub is reason enough to extend our stay. I recommend walking off the food after lunch with a walk on the lovely lane where the pub is located. We had the good fortune to find a diker (wall builder) at work. He saw us watching him and immediately came over for a chat. We have continually had this sort of experience in this area. It is so friendly to visitors.

“should be Michelin starred”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We stayed in Leadgate, two families on a short break and were recommended this restaurant by our Cottage owner.
Rural Cumbria was not somewhere we expected to be served such excellent quality food that looked as good as it tasted.
The service was second to none and the food was heavenly.

“Well Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This is a lovely little place, tucked out of the way down a little lane near a church. There is parking for a handful of cars, but could see a problem if it was very busy. I have just been there a handful of times. But every time has been consistent. Good range of ales, lagers, wines etc. 2 Hand Pull pumps. I had Yates, which was in top condition. Has a nice little, easy to understand menu. The meals that I have eaten there have been well adequate, but not outstanding. Prices are average. Nice couple running the pub\restaurant and pleasant waitress's. Doggies allowed. We also purchased wooden mice and an owl which they sell for £5. (Quite big garden type ones)
