“Superb!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

A work colleague and I were walking Hadrian's wall and arrived at Quarryside late afternoon in a thunderstorm, both completely drenched and our spirits at their lowest ebb.

We received the warmest of welcomes from Elizabeth who sat us down with hot drinks and homemade cake after showing us to the most comfortable rooms we could have wished for. There was a drying cupboard which was a godsend and allowed us to sort out our wet boots and gear which were completely dry by the next day. In the evening they took us to the local pub for an excellent very reasonable meal washed down with some wonderful real ale - then the chef brought us back! Finally, I had the best night's sleep at Quarry Side i've had for ages and the breakfast next day was excellent.

If you're walking the wall don't hesitate to book in here - trust me you won't be disappointed and the position literally right on the trail is ideal for an overnight stop.

One thing I would say - I've just read a review here from another traveler that is less than favourable. Nothing wrong with that except I do question from the description whether they are talking about Quarry Side? A few things don't ring true to me so they may be describing somewhere else I think?

This was our second stay at Quarryside - as we had enjoyed it so much last year we returned again this year and throughly enjoyed our stay again. Elizabeth had the tea brewing within a minute of us arriving and we sat in the very comfortable lounge enjoying delicious home made biscuits and muffins - yummy! We had a double ensuite room, which was cosy and quaint, with great views of the surrounding countryside. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. We were offered a ride to the pub for an evening meal - but as we had already eaten we didn't need it - but another group of walkers who stayed at Quarryside at the same time as ourselves went and they throughly enjoyed it.

We enjoyed breakfast with fellow walkers - which was great as we had a fascinating conversation which we would have missed out on if we had been sitting on separate tables. Breakfast was delicious - tea, cofffee, fruit juice, cereals, yogurt, toast and homemade jam are on offer in addition to a hearty full English breakfast with eggs straight from the coop!

We would recommend Quarryside to anyone walking Hadrian's Wall Path as it is situated right on the path and the AD122 bus stops outside. Bank turret is just up the road and the beautiful Lanercost Priory is very close by.

Elizabeth and David were very friendly and helpful and made feel very welcome, and we will definately return to Quarryside again!

Wonderful welcome as usual, with offers of homemade refreshments upon arrival. Beautiful home, exceptionally cosy and welcoming in a fantastic rural setting. Our room was lovely with ensuite and just asked our friendly hostess for further coffee and it was there, served in the lounge. Lots of choice for breakfast, with fresh eggs from the hens from the garden. Excellent place to stay for walking Hadrian's wall, visiting Lanercost Priory and surrounding historic monuments, etc.
Loved it, standard has been maintained from our previous visit so we'll be back again. Thank you for making our holiday stay a welcoming one.

A friend and I recently walked Hadrian's Wall and this B&B was booked for us by the travel company. It looked great in the brochure and we had high hopes, but they were very quickly dashed. It was a grueling day and we arrived fairly late. The travel company had said we must call if we're going to be later than 6 pm, as the rescue squad may be called if not heard from by 8pm. So we called just before 6 and got the voice mail. When we arrived at 7:30 our hostess hadn't even bothered to check her voice mail. She was more concerned about what we'd like for breakfast, even though I was clearly completely shattered and needed to put my feet up. There was no offer of tea until after we noticed that there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room! The final straw was that one of us was expected to sleep on a blow-up bed, that actually blocked the door to the en-suite, even though we had booked a twin-bedded room. I feel that if we've both paid for a real bed, a blow-up is unacceptable. Our hostess reluctantly relented and gave my friend the standard room (with real bed) across the room although she used my en-suite. An acceptable substitute but we shouldn't have had to ask. I really didn't feel welcome at all and would not recommend this place.

The loveliest of the the B&Bs we stayed in during our Hadrian's Wall hike! We spent two nights. It has a large den to relax in, complete with TV, fireplace, books, games, and even lots of floor space to stretch hike-weary muscles.

Our bedroom was large and comfortable. Our host took us into town each night at 7pm for dinner at the Belted Will. Someone from the pub brought us home after closing (9pm). Breakfast was served when you wanted it served, a nice option for the day we weren't hiking but sleeping in.

We were walking Hadrian's wall & this B&B is perfect, right on the route. We were welcomed by Elizabeth with tea & home made cakes in a very comfortable lounge. The rooms were spacious, with everything we needed & lovely pictures etc.The bathroom was also stocked with toiletries. One of our party was ill & help/drinks etc were offered (though thankfully not needed) at any time.Great breakfast & packed lunch. Our hosts took us to a pub & provided guided tour along the way!The pub was great, with meals at all prices & the pub brought us home again.Very efficient & friendly. Can not fault this place, you will not be disappointed.

We were offered the optional cottage accomodation instead of the more normal B&B at no extra charge. This worked out fine as we breakfast self catered in a huge kitchen and lounge/dining room. Bedroom was a little on the cramped side. Our hosts offered us a 5 mile lift to the pub and the pub brought us back foc! Excellent service
