“Traditional - in the best way!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

A comfortable, welcoming Inn in a lovely area. Well appointed comfortable rooms though compact, well equipped and with a welcoming glass of sherry! Food generally was good, and the Bottom of the Oven Lamb, their speciality, exceptionally good and veggies were beautifully cooked. Portions were so generous we weren't able to tackle a pudding unfortunately. Real ales were Marstons and Pedigree. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: All good rooms as far as we could see. Our room was "The Bottle Store", cosy but well appo...

My girlfriend and I decided to head for a long weekend's walking holiday in the Peak District for the Royal Wedding weekend. We booked the Stanley Arms online as most other hotels were booked, but my what luck we had that this was the case.

This small Pub and B&B is a little gem, the rooms although small are large enough to dust yourself down after a days hiking and the pub is very close-by for an Internal (Beer) shower!

The restaurant's food is all home made and the specials changed on each of the three nights we spent there. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, happy to have a chat at the bar, whilst serving one of the best and biggest English Breakfast we have ever eaten.

A wonderful little hotel with bags of charater.

We stayed after a trip to Go Ape in Buxton. We were welcomed with very friendly staff who helped with booking us in for an evening meal that night and showed us to our room. The room was comfortable, cosy and immaculately clean both room and ensuite. Food at the restaurant was great and reasonably priced. Breakfast was fantastic!!! Great value for money would recommend to anyone wishing to stay in the peak district or Buxton.

If you are looking for a good Enlish pub in the Peak District - with excellent Real Ale and wholseome, down-to-earth food, followed by an excellent, clean room with modern facilities - then look no further than the Stanley Arms!

This little gem of an inn is certainly 'out in the sticks' [actually, only JUST in the Peak District !], but then only a short drive [half and hour, ish] from Manchester Airport and that city.

The surrounding countryside is awesome: just right for a stroll before dinner, or in the morning before breakfast, to expel the effects of that wonderful Marstons Pedigree the night before!

This is how a British pub/inn should be: keep it up, Adrian [the landlord!].

Enjoy!

We have stayed at the Stanley Arms three times now- it's a hidden gem tucked at the bottom of a hill, a stone's throw from the cat and fiddle pub near Macclesfield, but feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly, courteous and very obliging. The rooms are compact but beautifully decorated, scrupulously clean and luxurious. Extra touches like fluffy bathrobes and decanter of sherry in the rooms make your stay extra special. The food is excellent (try the guinea fowl if in season!!) the dining room and adjoining pub quaint and very 'all creatures great and small'- roaring log fires, roaming friendly dog, amazing countryside and views (especially the sheep that popped his head in our window every morning!!) It's just lovely! I'd thoroughly recommend this little B&B, you'll be glad you stayed.

A party of 10 of us arrived for a midweek 2 night stay to find that there was a power cut caused by the dastardly electricity company. In spite of that the chef/owner managed to provide quite excellent food in huge portions; so big that I could not face a sweet. The full English breakfasts were also terrific as was the evening meal on our second night. We all stayed in the converted Barn; our room was clean and very nicely decorated if a bit small. The Stanley Arms seems to be in the middle of nowhere - you definitely need a car to get anywhere. But it's a great place for people with big appetites, and the walking in this corner of the Peak District is great
