We stayed at Shrigley Hall on a Friday night on a dinner bed and breakfast basis in a "superior" room. We kooked it through the Paramount hotels website. The hotel is attractive and elegant, our room was lovely and quietly situated at the very back corner of the hotel. It really wasn't that far to walk. From what I saw of the standard rooms when we walked past it is worth paying the extra for a better room, the standard ones are quite small.
The food was of an excellent standard but the service was slow. There were a couple of weddings on when we stayed, I think the kitchen was overstretched. This hotel has extended it's accommodation beyond the capacity of the dining facilities, there was even a queue for tables at breakfast.
I had a spa day the following day (which is situated in the church attached to the hotel). The treatments were great and the gym is well equipped. The pool area is looking a little tired, I went about five years ago and not much had changed. If you read the folder in the health club you will know to avoid room 211 if you don't like sharing your bedroom with presences that try to strangle you in the night! :-o
I would recommend this hotel, they need to tweak the dining experience, we were also seated in an area off the main dining area which was draughty and lacked ambiance. Most of the bigger parties were placed in that area, as a couple we found the laughing and guffawing a bit off putting and would have preferred a table in the main dining room so it's worth asking for that when you book a table (Our table was booked 3 weeks in advance too).
