“Geeks Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

I recently visited Jodrell Bank with my husband and 13 yr old Grandson. The centre is located in a beautiful spot in Cheshire. I was pleased to find a large carpark with no extra charge. We went on a weekday while my son was on half term break. Unfortunately it was not considered half term at the centre until the following week, this meant that there were limited activities going on while we were there and there were school parties there who were given priority. We found the information available very interesting. The telescope itself is huge and a great sight to behold. What we found disappointing was that there was no opportunity to see the control room and the scientists at work. I'm sure that some kind of viewing area could be provided. We did not walk in the garden due to inclement weather. We did visit the Cafe. We had drinks and a snack, we found it to be a pleasant experience and easy on the purse. Overall we felt it was value for money but would like to see more attention given to visitors not in school parties. There was a gift shop which sold souvenirs and some very good books and sky maps, again I felt these items were also reasonably priced. My grandson loved the experience but he also thought there would be morevto see and do.

“Very Dissappointing, should have taken notice of the poor reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

When your 10 year old who loves space and everything that goes with it says to you "the University must make a lot of money from the tourist" you know it really was that bad. The telescope is amazing, but if you have children save the £17 entrance fee, get a coffee and a scone and savour the views from the coffee shop, you will not miss anything. A couple of rooms with plenty to read but nothing you wont have seen before, then an "interactive" room with a couple of hands on pieces and then a walk around the telescope, less than an hour and you are done. Shame, how they can justify the entrance I do not know, 5 staff on the front desk taking the money and one person in side. As the song goes wont be fooled again!

“Huge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

You can see the telescope as you approach the attraction. It was a bitterly cold day when we visited so not much fun as mostly outdoors. There are a couple of small space museum rooms indoors and a shop. Don't miss the whispering telescopes- amazing as long as you're with someone.

Great centre, telescope awe inspiring - loved the historical videos in its relativity to the Cold War etc. The whispering dishes are a must do :)

“Simple visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

i went here on a friday lunchtime. i have wanted to go for ages as i think it is such an important historical place and to see it in action ....Poorly sighnposted - i only just found it with my new sat nav ( would never have found it otherwise).
Good parking. No immediate impact.
Very good pictures and LOTS to read. as Dave K says lots of info - but not much to actually do. I read EVERY single page/slide/computer/wall mounting and walked around outside and the visit lasted just 2 hours.
The history video was really interesting. Some hands on stuff for kids. Every 20 mins i was swamped with a school group. It was very cold outside and apart from a few panels you just stand and stare at the sheer size of the radio telescope - which is awesome. You cannot walk all the way round it.
I just wish there was more physical stuff to touch / do / look through / into for adults
