“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

I had my wedding at Hollin Hall on the 01/03 and have to say I was very impressed with everything! Stacey planned everything for us and we did have quite a few meetings beforehand so did get to know her too, she is so helpful and enthusiastic and really makes you feel like yours is the only wedding they have going on! I was really wanting to make sure that everyone had just a good a time as we did and I think we achieved that :). The night before the wedding I was receiving messages from relatives who were staying the night before saying how lovely the hotel and rooms were and that the food was amazing which was lovely to hear the night before :). When we arrived on the day from the start to finish it really was perfect. I have to also mention Graham and the bar staff who were outstanding really looked after us and our guests well. Stacey and Graham have actually been mentioned by other guests asking me to make sure I leave a review! Since the wedding again I have had nothing but lovely comments from guests saying how much they loved the hotel/staff and it was one of the best weddings they have been to due to the organisation and friendliness of everyone, Stacey and Graham and the staff on the night of the wedding plus the hotel itself all made this. I really don't understand some of these reviews all I can say is go there for yourself and see!

Was given this hotel stay for a Xmas present. Was a little disappointed when we saw reviews but thought give it the benefit of the doubt. All the negative reviews you couldn't disagree with pot holed drive tired rooms etc. the whole place is very tired and needs a really in depth revamp. Although the lounge and dining area are very nice two rooms out of the whole hotel is very poor. Our room was shabby two single beds pushed together one was lower than the other headboard might as well not have been there short just stuck in middle of these two beds. Bathroom tiles painted over very badly mould under the sink and an awful aroma emanating from the loo. Our deal came with cream tea and dinner I have to say I couldn't find any fault with any of the food it is a shame they don't show the same care with the rest of the hotel. We stayed out of the room as much as possible although we didn't spend that time walking round the grounds it was overgrown nettles brambles and falling down fences. Returned to the room quite late at night exhausted we discovered on the bed base what can only be described as looking like excrement, but goodness knows how it got there unless it came off walkers boots. Too tired at that time of night to pack and swap rooms we reported it in the morning receptionist asked housekeeping to check it out but got the feeling she didn't quite believe me she asked if it could be coffee I showed her photos I had taken and she had to agree with me that it definitely wasn't coffee. It is a shame because with a little care and attention this hotel could be so much more it is in a lovely location. I have rated it two purely for the food which was this experience's saving grace.

We had been given an overnight stay as a Xmas present by our daughter & son-in-law. After reading the reviews prior to going and see that there seemed to be a lot of adverse comments we were very apprehensive as to what we would find when we got there. It is a large impressive building with a lovely entrance hall, bar and lounge. It was warm, welcoming, very clean, with attentive and courteous staff at all times and the dining experience was A1 First Class. The food was delicious and very well presented. Our room was comfortable and very clean and the breakfast was equally excellent. We would definitely stay here again. Sue and Tony G.

Room Tip: There was a wedding being held in the Hotel with an evening Disco. I can honestly say we could not...

We stayed at the Hollin Hall Hotel for a wedding and I was looking forward to the stay. I have to say the staff were great, really welcoming, however I was disappointed with the room, especially as we had stayed at a Premier inn the night before for half the price, and the room we had was far inferior to that. I would stay again, however it really needs some money spent on the hotel, especially the bedrooms.
Also I would say all the stairs are very hard work and if you had a disability at all you would be in trouble here.

We went on on a 'Living Social' deal (2 nights).
Signage from the road could be better and the severely potholed driveway certainly was not a good introduction to our first visit.
Externally an imposing lovely old building in an idyllic setting (which made you forget negotiating the drive) but it flattered to deceive! Entrance hall impressive and booking in efficient. Upon entering our room, disappointment immediately descended again. Firstly you were hit with the unmistakable musky smell of damp. The carpet was unwelcomingly dirty with several areas of staining and an unsightly joint which had separated and frayed. Loose wallpaper around the room, revealed the black mould of damp.
Two 'wheel around' radiators indicated a heating issue, although to be fair, the main radiator did warm up eventually. No view from the lower window pane (frosted glass) was probably a blessing as the clear top pane revealed a very shabby exterior of peeling paint and cracked missing masonry. The air conditioning unit control didn't work and one of the bulbs in the main lighting was out. This simply added to the very poor internal lighting as the bulbs were all very low wattage emitting the faintest of illumination (trying to read was not good!). Background noise pollution was quickly noticed with a continuous whirring noise (seemingly from some sort of machinery), clanking as if from a kitchen and voices (presumably from staff).
On the plus side:The four poster bed was eye catching and the bedding clean and crisp. The bathroom was a lot brighter and appeared to have been recently renovated (thank goodness). Equally, the restaurant presented well and the food was quite good. Staff were all very attentive and pleasant.
Having read other feedback (albeit only after arriving - a mistake I shall not repeat!) it was clear (from the recently appointed operations manager) that the hotel is to undergo a full refurbishment during 2014. This is clearly long overdue and much needed. Interestingly, there is no mention of this in the advertising which felt a little deceiving.
Full marks to the staff for making things bearable but overall an establishment which offered much promise, ended up being a disappointment.

Read the reviews on here, but saw a groupon deal and decided to go and see for ourselves to see about booking our wedding here for next year. We booked an appt with a wedding coordinator and went for a nosy.
The drive up to the hall is really impressive, with views over the countryside and the front of the Hall, from the outside is really attractive. Inside the entrance doesn't disappoint as there's a lovely big fireplace and beautiful stairway as you enter - lots of period features.
The Receptionist was friendly and helpful and we were shown into the Drawing Room, which was definitely full of elegance and really wowed us!
The Ridge restaurant is really pleasantly decorated and very light - we loved the glass roof.
We asked to see a few rooms and were told that in the next few months an exciting project is underway to completely revamp every bedroom in the hotel - as well as the bar area in the Kerridge Room. We were shown some plans which showed the look and feel that the hotel want to achieve(a planned £500,000.00 project) and then were taken to some of the rooms that have already been redecorated. The plans look great and given the reviews on here, will certainly address all the issues. We were shown a room of every standard and even the undecorated ones were clean and tidy, but the renovated ones look really, really great! Totally wiped out any preconceptions.
The Staff themselves seem really excited about the plans and are very keen to please and to help and answer any questions.
From what we've seen, we really loved the intimate, cosy grand, feel of Hollin Hall, really liked the decor (as it is actually, so it will be even better when all the work is complete!) and are confident that as a wedding venue, it would be absolutely lovely. Our advice: don't pay too much attention to the reviews, go and see for yourselves and look at the plans! This is a lovely hotel that will soon be a gorgeous hotel and make the negative reviewers eat their words.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.
