“Short Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Booked this stay through one of those on-line cheap deals GBKdeals, you need to be careful with these sites as they are very imaginative with their descriptions of hotels. As for the the Hollin Hall Hotel, what can you say! if your not too fussy then it's fine. Clearly some nice features around the house but generally, decor very dated and tired looking with a refurbishment long over due. Heating in our room very intermittent and not very effective when on. Would urge caution when booking room, it appears that any of the "odd numbered rooms" have no view from the room at all apart from a brick wall no more then 2 - 3 feet from the windows!, that was a shock and TV reception dodgy. Apart from that, the food was good and staff were quite friendly in a professional way, with the exception of the receptionist, who seemed stretched to be pleasant.

Room Tip: If you book through a "On -line " promotional site, you won't get the best treatment a...

Stayed here last night for a friend's wedding. Cannot fault the food at all or the overall servce from the staff who were all very helpful. Just a few niggles that got on my nerves though.

Standard rooms are very basic for the price, stained carpets, dated decor etc. My friends who stayed in the upgraded rooms were all very happy, but at the end of the day all I did was get changed and crash there.

The bar had a good selection of drinks but be prepared to pay over the odds for them, the wine was very basic and not good to drink however. The other guests at the hotel were left to mingle in the shared bar/snug area with us which did seem a little awkard.

The house DJ was brilliant and kept the floor filled al night long. All the function rooms looked great and were very tastefully decorated and the main entrance was a great location for all the photos.

Overall very happy just a couple of litte hingsthat could make it perfect.

Oh and when you are getting there, do not follow the post code on your sat nav, it takes you onto the housing estate that backs onto the overflow car park!

Room Tip: Do not stay in a standard room if you can afford the upgrade! Comfy and adequate but need updating

Just got back from having our wedding at Hollin Hall, I can honestly say it was absolutely brilliant. Lorna and all the staff were so welcoming and everything was so well organized. The ceremony in the middlewood suite was just spot on for the 50 guests witnessing our vows, then after the drinks reception and photos in the hall way with the magnificent staircase, in to the Kerridge suite for the wedding breakfast which was an excellent 3 course meal, service was second to none, all our guests were very impressed. The evening reception, for 100 guests, was down stairs in the Hollins suite with a good sized dance floor ample seating and easy access to the bar area. The bridal suite was brilliant with walk in shower and also a bath. The main window over looked the fields and hills giving an impressive view.
All in all we definitely made the right choice in going to Hollin Hall.

This is the perfect wedding venue had my wedding here and after reading other reviews i was concerned but after being there five mins i knew how special my day would be. We loved the character of the building and thats what throughout is gonna be so accept that rooms lovely espically the bridal suite had amazing stay thank you. Just dont take notice of the bad reviews go yourself and see its beautiful surroundings and old traditional building so thats what youll come across if you want modern and minimal go there instead and spend triple the price

My wife and I stayed at Hollin Hall on the 19th of January while attending a wedding. On arrival the hotel looks fantastic with nice views of the surrounding countryside. We did have quite a wait at reception but the receptionist was very helpful and informative. We were allocated a room at the back of the hotel which took us a while to find and should really be better signposted. Once we found the room the door was already open. On entering the room we were quite surprised on how basic it was and also on how many easily fixable problems there were. The radiator cover didn't fit and was held in place by the chair. There were also rips in the wallpaper and when I tried to plug my phone charger in I found that a plug had been broken off inside making it unusable. The headboard had been pulled from the wall and could only be fixed back in on one side. I then looked outside the window to see an alleyway with piping fixed to the opposite wall. The pipes had been insulated and boxed in, but the casing had fallen off with all the insulation coming out. The bathroom was quite nice and clean but the chain on the plug in the sink was broken. All in all, the room could have done with a lot of improvement but these are things that wouldn't take a lot of time or money. The only issue I had with the night was the prices as it was dear compared to surrounding venues. I had quite a good sleep as it was nice and quiet. The breakfast was average but the dining room was very modern and comfy. If the hotel wants to charge these prices then it should make sure the rest of the building is as nice as the front.

We went on a travelzoo offer. It was a weekend birthday treat. It was a cold and wintery weekend the first of the snow for this year. The night before because of the bad weather the hotel contacted us to see if we wanted to postpone our stay because of the heavy snow. We decided to go as planned. So glad we did. The hotel building was exactly as it looked on the photographs and the open roaring fire was very welcoming. We had an excellent time, food was delicious and restaurant atmosphere was just what we wanted. The bar staff were delightful. The room was basic, but pleasant and I can not fault it. We would recommend it and for the money you could not get any better. Well done Hollin Hall and a big well done to all your excellent, helpful and friendly staff.
Sue and Steve Dye.

Stayed at Hollin Hall on 19th January as it was a gift from our children for my husbands birthday. On arrival we were upgraded to a superior room at no extra charge. The receptionist was very helpful and explained everything about the hotel very well. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had afternoon tea with wine which was very nice. The restaurant was beautiful and the food and service was excellent. There was a wedding party on but we did not hear a thing and both had a decent nights sleep. The breakfast was plentiful. All in all a lovely stay and we would definitely go back in the summer.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 67 and it was very quiet.
