“Good Hotel and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2009

Stayed for two nights and found the hotel to be charming, clean and in a good location from town centre. Owners were very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed my stay, will be back!

Booked in advance £55. Arrived 7pm. Owner couldn't have been quicker to pass us on to find own room. Up and down many stairs. Room small with very thin walls (could hear next room occupants clearly) and traffic noise from main road quite load. As we were looking forward to a good rest we decided we couldn't stay and moved on to Hollins Hall for £65 (which was much better in a beautiful period house, friendly and excellent parking, food, views and service inc free WiFi). Owner insisted they would still charge us even though the room was clearly unfit for our needs. Not recommended at all.

  • Liked — It seemsed to be centrally located
  • Disliked — Room and attitude of owner

I stayed here after a work function earlier this year. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The single room was only just OK - a bit dingy and right at the top of the house. Creaky floorboards, shower cubicle actually in the room, grouting had seen better days. The toilet was in a cupboard. Glad I wasn't staying long. Bed comfortable though.
The thing that made up for all this was the breakfast - fantastic. Almost worth the price of the room in itself.
And the location is ideal for the train station.
I'd use it again, but wouldn't want to spend much time in the room.

Having stayed here in March and found the hotel to be comfortable and good value we re-booked straight away for a wedding in August, despite owner being unhelpful about an early check-in time.
Three days before the wedding, we received a phone call to say sorry they had double booked and no longer had rooms for us despite having booked 4 rooms over 3 months in advance and confirmed 2 weeks beforehand.

I was extremely surprised and disappointed at this unreliable and unprofessional attitude.

  • Liked — Godd value for money, excellent breakfast.
  • Disliked — Unco-operative and unreliable owner.

Very friendly and extremely helpful hosts. The breakfast was excellent. The rooms were very clean. (I had to move rooms twice because I had trouble finding an accomodation in the area.) It was just a five minute walk from the town center and the train station. It was so good that I recommended it to everyone coming to Macc and they all loved it.
