“My kind of Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Stepping into Paradise Mill feels very special. Its the kind of place which could so easily be ruined by overly enthusiastic renovation or large crowds and I hope that it manages to survive unspoilt.

I think it is a great shame that you can no longer take photographs and this diminishes the experience. I also can't help but think this is a strange policy - don't photographs = publicity = visitors?

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

The Macclesfield Silk Museum and Paradise Mill tour turned out to be a hidden gem of an attraction.
Perhaps because it is not so widely advertised it was not crowded and this added to the enjoyment.
There is a surprisingly large museum about the silk industry and in particular Macclesfield's involvement in silk over the years.
Surprised however that it was not permitted to take photos - not at all clear why, and strange in this day and age!
The Paradise Mill tour was very informative and included demonstrations of the working mill machinery on the top floor of the old mill building.
A very small tea room in the museum is available, and there were adequate toilet facilities.
Allow half a day for both museum and mill tour.

“Allow plenty of time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Please allow yourselves plenty of time to look around this fascinating building. You will be amazed how interesting and informative it can be (for all ages) for members of the family. From the humble silk worm through all the stages to the production/manufacture of clothing and an insight to the social and working conditions of the silk mill workers. Material samples and examples of the weaving processes will surprise you - the Museum is covered through two buildings separate from each other and you can visit the shop and café to break your visit between the two.

“The silk road ends here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a gem of a museum, and combined with The heritage Centre and the Mill gives a good overall picture of the history of silk, and Macclesfield's association with it historically. The Paradise Mill has machinery and you can see the intricacy of the weaving. In the museum there are also pieces of machinery and a wonderful gift of old sewing machines from Anne Morrell. If anyone has been to the Calico Museum in Ahmadabad in India they will have seen an exhibition of traditional embroidery stitches in Anne Morrell's name. The museum also has one-off exhibitions in the upstairs room. The exhibitions of embroidery are exquisite and Sue Rangeley's work was to die for (recent exhib.)
