I've just returned to Australia after 2 wonderful weeks at Kerridge End cottages, visiting my family, who live in the area. The first week was in The Hayloft, which is the largest of the 3 cottages. I shared the cottage with my parents and my son, daughter in law and grandson. We all had our own bedroom and bathroom, which was ideal for our family situation. The kitchen was fully equipped for 12 people, including the dining table, which extended to seat 12, Again, this was ideal for when we entertained my extended family in the area. There was a very pleasant outdoor courtyard, where we spent many a happy hour eating, drinking and generally enjoying each others company. There is a play area adjacent to the Hayloft, with a swing and slide, which was ideal for our 18-month old.
After my son and daughter in law left for Spain the following week, my parents and I moved into the Coach House, the 2 bedroomed cottage, which again was equipped and furnished to the highest standard. We were very comfortable in the Coach House, the weather wasn't as good as the first week but we were very cosy inside.
The cottages are in a beautiful setting, just minutes from Macclesfield and the shops, in gorgeous countryside, offering wonderful walks through the Cheshire and Derbyshire hills. There are many local pubs that serve meals and some have live music in the evening. I would also thoroughly recommend Heathcotes butcher in Bollington, offering good, old fashioned service of local meat, fruit and vegetables, fish, cheese and other delights. They have a blackboard saying which local farms the different meats are sourced from and the butchers are really helpful and friendly. Just across the road from the butcher is an equally traditional small bakery, also highly recommended.
The hosts at Kerridge End, Lyn and Ivor Williams, are truly wonderful - hospitable, helpful but completely non-intrusive. We arrived to a welcome basket of freshly baked scones (still warm) and home made jam, as well as plunger coffee, tea, butter, milk, fruit and chocolates. Certainly a lovely welcome, and they were always on hand for any information or help we needed.
I have absolutely no hesitation in giving Kerridge End a 5 star rating and would definitely recommend these cottages to anyone. I will definitely be staying there again on my next visit to the UK.
