I first tried Cafe Essence last year and was quite impressed with both food and service. In the intervening 12 months I have been back several times and have yet to have a bad meal. There are enough changes to the specials each time that the menu doesn't feel samey, yet it's comforting that my favourites are still available if I don't want to try something new. On this visit I opted for the piri piri king prawns - these alone would have made the visit worthwhile. Others have mentioned having received poor service here. I have never found that to be the case. Yes, at busy times it can take a minute or two to get the attention of the waitress, but a bit of patience never hurt anyone. It's a small family-run restaurant and my friends and I have never had anything other than friendly and efficient service from the staff. My only complaint is that they don't have an espresso machine (yet?). The filter coffee is nice but I like an espresso after a meal, especially if full up, as I usually am at Cafe Essence. But I'll be back - more than once.
