Having thoroughly enjoyed an evening meal with hubby at the Boat House last January, I returned last week for lunch with my daughter who was visiting from England. Initially we felt slightly intimidated as we were the only diners in the restaurant - normally not a good sign!
We both had the crab and beetroot starter which was full of flavour and highlighted with the baby beetroot meringues, mains were pigeon for my daughter which again was excellent and not too strong and although very rare in parts, was most enjoyable. My monkfish was slightly on the "wet" side but still a very acceptable dish.
The highlight of the meal had to be my treacle tart offering the finest of pastry surrounding a not too sweet treacle filling, combined with salted caramel mousse and mini brandy tuille dressed with orange gel, orange powder and an orange confit - absolute heaven - and I do not normally eat desserts!! Daughter appreciated her Dutch spiced cake but I think was secretly envious of my heaven on a plate.
A truly fine dining experience. Would certainly recommend again. Just a shame it is so quiet at lunch time.
